  1. What about Bass Lake? Cold yes, but you have a wetsuit, and there's some MTB'ing there too for you ride afterwards... Have a look at www.basslake.co.za
  2. I will really feel sorry for you if you have to settle for the Air 9... not. Happy hunting, post pics when you've made the purchase!
  3. Saw the 94.7 face and thought flip, Flippa must be a strong guy, then noticed the slicks and guessed that gearing was for the 94.7 road race...?
  4. There is always the nekkid option... Would love to know what the status is of the event, will try to get some info.
  5. I think a little single speed get together early in the new year would be great... Any word on the SA SS Champs?
  6. Setup has a lot to do with this, but is not always the cause. I had a similar problem, which was alleviated by my Chiropracter. I had some tenseness in my upper back, particularly on the right side, due to poor ergonomics in the office. Sorted it with a combination of accupuncture, stretching and massage, and obviously fixed the ergonomics. Now the only thing that goes numb is my butt after a few hours in the saddle.
  7. @GTRacing - looking forward to seeing it!
  8. Hi GT, my frame had the brake braket on it, so was an easy conversion (ok, relatively, removing the v-brake bosses took some work with the Dremmel ). Never seen any brackets to convert to disk.
  9. Thanks, the powder coating came out better than I expected. It's a piece of inner tube taped around the seatpost, to protect it when I clamp on the Giant Half Wheeler to tow my 3 year old around the farm... Great for strength training! Will post some pics sometime!
  10. Not sure this qualifies as it is a SS thread... Yesterday I hooked up my sons Giant half wheeler (7 speed) to my SS MTB and proceeded to drag the little (16kg) guy and his +/- 10kg bikearound Rietvlei. My son is only 3 and a bit, and the half wheeler is a little big for him, so he struggles a bit to pedal. Adding 26 odd kg's to drag around will certainly help strengthen these skinny a$$ pins of mine!
  11. I stayed there for a long weekend in August. Had a great time, the accommodation is comfortable and clean, food was good, nice bar with a great big fireplace was really cosy at night. The MTB trails were in development, I rode the Stonehenge trail, it's not a very long lap (about 9km's if memory serves me), the bit around the rocks is very cool, with some little bridges over the rocks and past the dams. There were some big plans, so would be interesting to see how it has developed. Some options to ride to Boven too, though the climb back is quite hectic... The owners daughters ride for the Ghost team, so they now a thing or 2 about MTB'ing, I do feel this place has the potential to turn into an awesome MTB destination.
  12. Not the best pics, but you get the idea... Giant ATX 860, now ATX SS, removed the cable guides and brake bosses, acid bathed the frame, powdercoated matt grey, upgraded to disk brakes, and Tyronne did the vinyl.
  13. Hey DiverNick, nice sprayjob, well done on the clear coat. My brother used to spray bike frames for beer money when he was younger, I know what a mission it can be to get the clear coat right, no orange peel or runs! Just an observation, as you're going SS on this frame, you should have cut off the cable bosses. I did it on my Giant frame, I also went the disk route, so cut off the bosses for the V-brakes too. Frame looks super clean now! Tyronne could do some gold vinyl for you too, could be cool.
  14. I had my alu Giant frame acid bathed and powder coated matt grey, all for a single blue 100 randts note. The finish is great, and seems to be quite hard wearing too. Just remember to mask up the holes where bits need to be refitted.
  15. They do have a proper timing system: Finish Time - Starting Time for your allocated batch = Race Time. The fact that it is not automated is an entirely different debate (which is included in this thread). Your choice to move back a batch, therefore, the 10 mins time difference. My opinion on the automated timing is that it is not necessary, I have a computer on my bike, and keep track of my race results to compare PB's, etc. If I were racing for porition, I'd expect the race organisers to keep accurate timing of the top 10 positions, be that manually or automagically.
  16. Now how are the timers to know you started one group back...? You know, so take off 10 minutes and all is fine. The results don't mean much, unless you're top 3 in your category, which I'm guessing you're not, based on your 2h33!
  17. The results that are up, are last years results, so I know how I did then, but no idea on this years ride...
  18. Compared to last year, it was a huge improvement, far less congestion, though the move to A1 also had a lot to do with that... Gotta love the provisional results though, they are last years results...
  19. Should pass this info on to Discovery who subsidise a large part of the subscription on Vitality. They may want to relook at who they support.
  20. Be keen to join if I get my frame back from the powder coaters in time...
  21. Following on from the Brake Placement thread, what about the chain...? Came across this pic of a very pretty SS, but the chain is on the wrong side. Thought maybe the "negative" was reversed, but the rest of the stuff on the pic is the right way round. This leads to the question though, why are bicycle chains normally on the right, whereas motorcycles are on the left. Maybe a question for Mr JB...
  22. LA, Contador, Landis and Team Astana having a dop on the tour! Have a good Friday!
  23. "I create feelings in others they themselves don't understand." - You've done it again.. I'm over it, and have moved on (oh, and +1 on my post count...)
  24. +1 on my post count, slowly but surely getting there I know that it is part of the "Way of The Hub", but what is the magic number? I read a lot of the threads, take what's useful out of them, and contribute where I think that I may have value to add. I am always wary of what I post though, as I don't need to be abused. On this thread, the poster was not going Ape, and was not specifically critical of any other Hubbers, his comments are fairly general, at least thats how I read them. If you've not already done so, please go and tell "mate" on the "KCNC by Paragon" thread to go and up his post count...
