    They couldn't possibly be that short sighted, it's a bizarre choice, the 1/4" HEX standard is so common it makes zero sense to use a proprietary or non-standard size. But whatever the case is it reduces the functionality and long term usefulness of the tool, which is sad because it is otherwise a really clever little tool.

  3. I got a Groove Tool Pro recently only to discover they use non-standard size hex bits, ¼” (6.35mm) hex drive is the standard and theirs are all 6mm. Now I can't customise the bits I carry by taking some of my own, for instance a bog standard Philips PH2 which should have been included in the first place or a bigger flat or whatever the need is.

    Why would they feel the need to re-invent the wheel and make a daft decision like this??!

He's even promoting the fact that you can do a chargeback on payments, that being said knowing how this guy works this is just to lull people into a sense of security but he'll convince people to pay via eft or will delay things until you go past the 120 day window to initiate a chargeback with your bank.

    It should work considering the chain pin width and link length has to be the same seeing they are both specc'd as 12 speed parts and likewise there's no material difference I am aware of between chains branded road or mtb. I've used KMC links on many different chain brands incl Shitmano directional chains. The packaging pic on that Takealot listing does also state "Compatibility : KMC & SRAM 12 speed chains" so I think you'll be good but maybe someone else can chime in to confirm that 100%.

    I'll give them a try, seems there are also 2 thickness standards for chainrings for BMX one piece cranks, 1/8" or 3/32" .. the joys of the endlesssly changing bicycle standards :(

  7. I'm looking for a chainring for the old school bmx style one piece cranks on my Schwin cruiser if anyone has.
    Something smaller than the 44T I currently have which is a real bastard to pedal and no bike shops have anything other than a 44T. Alternatively a larger sprocket for the coaster hub, current is 18t but I'm assuming finding a larger one than that will be a true needle in a haystack.

    Take the thing out, you'll find the threads.

    I took the crank out to check the bearings/regrease it and it's old school tech, looks like an old one piece BMX crank from the 80's - the cone nut tightens onto the one side of the crank and that's where you set the preload. Like I mentioned in the op these Schwin cruisers use bottom of the barrel parts.

    Otherwise any cranks should fit - if the BB is square taper just get a set of cheap and cheerful square taper cranks and off you go. You say the BB has no threads, so I'm guessing it's a 1 piece - if this is the case you'll need to bin (or donate) the cranks and BB and replace the whole lot.

    The 68mm BB shell should be a 1.37" BSA thread which will fit any English threaded BB, so you'll be able to fit whatever cranks you like - as long as the chainline is correct.

     

    Ok that would explain the weird pedal thread size, do modern BMX cranks still use 1/2" threads?
    The existing BB is unfortunately cup and cone with no threads that I can see, could the cups possibly be screwed in?
    I was hoping to chuck on a MTB crank, you can get decent ones in the classifieds 2hnd for around R500 and then I can use all my existing chainrings and pedals but without threads on the BB even octolink probably won't work. Are there any options to convert a thread-less BB to threaded, something like those BB30 adaptors to allow threaded GXP or Shimano BB's

  10. I recently got a Schwin Cruiser, with a coaster hub/pedal brake, so simple so much fun for cruising around.
    But unfortunately the build quality is 100% Pnp special level, absolute garbage spec parts and poor build quality on the frame, sad but there doesn't seem to be much else to choose from in the Cruiser segment. Anyway the cranks use some weird small thread spec for the pedals so none of my normal pedals will fit or anything decent for that matter.

    My question is what cranks can be fitted to these frames that use normal pedal threads?
    The BB is cup and cone and the shell is 68mm wide, ideally I'd like to use a Shimano Hollowtech MTB crank but the BB has no threads so probably not possible. I'm assuming something like old cup and cone MTB or BMX cranks will be a straight fit?

    Isn't putting that much going to overly add rotational weight, which is where weight has the most negative affect on a bike in terms of energy expended to get it to move?

  13. Does anyone know how many ml's you need per MTB wheel with Enduro Seal?

    For some reason they don't state that basic fact anywhere obvious on their website, weird.

    And while I'm asking how many ml's does Ryder sealant require per wheel?

  14. Maybe best to sell it as is/for spares at this point and get a Lyne because without much local support on the Lev it's pretty much dead in the water. A new cartridge for a Lyne is R700 and service kit R400 so apart from some lube and a bit of time that's probably all you need to outlay to rebuild one every few years.
