  1. 1. Defintely get a platform rack. 2. Invest in a good one, it will last close to a lifetime. 7b. I'm selling a Westfalia 3 bike platform rack. Reviewed here on Bike Hub. If anyone is keen let me know, I just need to scrub it then get it listed in the classifieds.
  2. I've spent some time on one and would pick it every day of the week over a traditional hardtail. It is a lot of fun on single track, great up climbs and when you're just pedalling along it definitely feels like a more comfortable seating position. Factor in that i don't ride to win anything, but for fun. For the pure enjoyment of riding a bike.
  3. WAAAAAYYYYY off point, I know, BUT you would think that Honda would have a solid CI document in place. That is ROUGH! Kill it with FIRE! I'm starting to think they can keep their cap.
  4. Of greater importance, daheck is doing their design work?! I'd happily pay a couple of g's extra for them to afford a proper designer. What's next, comic sans?! Word art? HRC-Works stickers?!
  5. Yes, please! (Does it come with a Honda cap?)
  6. Well with all the caps floating around it's no wonder they have to charge that much for their cars!
  7. Was Audi closed for the day, or what would I be doing at a Merc dealership? 😎
  8. It's going swell... https://m.pinkbike.com/news/evil-bikes-announce-company-layoffs.html "While we have continued to produce & sell bikes at a reasonable pace, the retail & wholesale margins associated with these sale prices are simply not sustainable toward our current staffing levels."
  9. Not correct. In-house saves money on most if not all parts.
  10. I'm certainly not saying it is dead or going anywhere. But that it is not healthy, and that many, many, many brands and very talented people will leave this industry is a fact. As many already have. Buying 1.5 million bikes where no one makes money does not fit the world we live in. Still doesn't mean "the bicycle industry is dead", but between that and arguing that it is okay lies a VERY deep canyon.
  11. 👆 Forecast 👇Reality Schwalbe, citing a 'tense situation' in industry, consolidates production in Vietnam https://www.bicycleretailer.com/international/2024/01/18/schwalbe-citing-tense-situation-industry-consolidates-production-vietnam Scott Sports next to get multi-million loan from owner [to cover operational costs] https://www.bike-eu.com/46756/scott-sports-next-to-get-multi-million-loan-from-owner?giftCode=GHyB3XTUDjs4YcsNQI06aDsYlf-3N1lqXjM0GThYpZhP6KbZYSOB7RTvVgTaJVop&social=copy Discounting raises Canyon’s sales by 23% but sparks a €2m million loss https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/discounting-raises-canyons-sales-by-23-but-sparks-a-13-million-euro-loss/ BMC applies for government assistance as cycling brands continue to suffer https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/bmc-applies-for-government-assistance-as-cycling-brands-continue-to-suffer/ Zwift co-CEO resigns amid fresh round of workforce layoffs https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/zwift-co-ceo-resigns-amid-fresh-workforce-reduction/ Thule Q4 net sales drop 5%; 2023 sales decline 10% https://www.bicycleretailer.com/industry-news/2024/02/09/thule-q4-net-sales-drop-5-2023-sales-decline-10 GoPro Q4 and 2023 revenues each decrease 8% https://www.bicycleretailer.com/industry-news/2024/02/07/gopro-q4-and-2023-revenues-each-decrease-8 MIPS fourth-quarter and yearly net sales down despite bike helmet growth https://www.bicycleretailer.com/industry-news/2024/02/08/mips-fourth-quarter-and-yearly-net-sales-down-despite-bike-helmet-growth Peloton share price plummets as brand looks to 'stop the bleeding' https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/whats-happening-at-peloton/ I'd like to point out that those are all fairly fresh, actual reports on facts. Add that to all the other links already shared. To quote a wiseman: one cannot argue the data, but one should the interpretation. Next year statisticians will look back at the end of 2023 and 2024 as a year of good sales in terms of numbers and will base forecasts on that, what they will fail to pick up in those numbers is the sheer boatload of bikes sold at cost or even below cost just to move them. That is not the sign of a healthy global or local economy. Also, some brands will see growth due to others failing, again, those numbers won't tell the full story. Covid taught us a valuable lesson: foresight is better than forecast - even more so in a world changing as rapidly as the one we inhabit.
  12. I have some ideas... @Jewbacca Drop me a DM with your contact details then I'll get in touch to bounce them.
  13. Front Runner as mentioned https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/za/bike-carrier-load-bed-rack-side-mount.html
  14. Even if this holds true, it still does not mean the industry is healthy and even less so profitable, robust and in a good space. Takealot sells THOUSANDS of products a week, yet they lose millions and millions every year. Units sold is one part of the cog, and when there is close to zero margin, it is a VERY scary one.
  15. Revenue in the Bicycles market is projected to reach US$67.35bn in 2023. Revenue is expected to show an annual growth rate (CAGR 2023-2028) of 1.85%, resulting in a projected market volume of US$73.82bn by 2028. Bicycles market unit sales are expected to reach 138.30m bicycles in 2028. The volume-weighted average price of Bicycles market in 2023 is expected to amount to US$0.48k. From an international perspective it is shown that the most revenue will be generated in China (US$10,400m in 2023). The answer lies in the bold words. It doesn't mention actual profit in any of those statements This includes all bikes, in all categories including cheap kids bikes, throw-away Chinese commuter bikes, delivery bikes, etc. The wider industry as we know it in SA is not in good shape.
  16. I've tried most of them as our kid have grown up, in (longish) short Thule Front Mounted https://www.thule.com/en-za/child-bike-seats/front-mounted-child-bike-seats Will give your kid a nice view Easy to have a conversation You'll have to ride with frog legs Bicycle becomes massively front-heavy Can work on a dual sus Will require enough stack height to fit seat Thule Rear Mounted https://www.thule.com/en-za/child-bike-seats/rear-mounted-child-bike-seats The view is terrible for the kid Not so easy to have a chat You'll have to lay with set up and can suffer some ankle strikes against the foot cradles. Not fun. The bicycle becomes massively rear-heavy. Won't work on a dual sus Not carbon friendly Mac Ride https://mac-ride.com/collections/frontpage/products/black-mac-ride-child-bike-seat View is great Allows your kid to grab the handlebar that gives them a sense of steering. Easiest to have a conversation Easiest on and off Least impact on bike balance Due to neutral balance, it was the easiest of the three I owned and used to ride trails with. Dropper friendly Easy to move between bikes Ultimately, quite a bit comes down to the age of your kid. When they are very young it will be difficult to use a seat like the Mac Ride where they will have to balance themselves. And keep their head up, etc. But no doubt the Mac Ride was the one my kid and I enjoyed the most. By FAR. [This reminded me that I have a Mac Ride to sell. Let me know if you'd like to grab it now. Even though your kid may be too small now, she will be ready for it soon enough.]
  17. @Matt When I click on a classified ad one the home page, then click to go from the ad to the category it is in, then the size filter is there. (So click on road bike ad, then go one level up by clicking on ROAD BIKES) When I go Buy & Sell, then click on BIKES, the size filter is not there. If I then click on Road Bikes the size filter is back along with the other filters. Maybe that is what @Sandroreferring is refering to.
