  1. Maybe I was a bit too harsh too soon on the Milkit valves.  I got them to seal at last, pressure been consistent on 2 bar for the last three rides.

Yes pricy, but they make it so easy and simple to check/replace/top-up sealant without deflating the tire, no mess no fuss.  You need to buy the syringe kit also though.

  2. Anybody else think that Mclaren is the only team that will actually move in comparison to last season. They are all using last years cars besides Mclaren who now has Merc Power and rear end. Think with Lando and Danny they have a fair chance of bagging consistent points like last year.

If they can make them look pretty again like in the Hakkinen/Raikonen/Coulthard era, they might be even a bit faster ...  :whistling:

  3. Yes i would agree, but top end MTB's have a good build quality (Well at least most do) and nowhere near the warranty rate of Wahoo. As Mech Eng's we don't only have knowledge of all things technical, we also have a good understanding of R&D as well as the associated costs and expected return on investment.

As a customer I fully appreciate that i'm not only paying for the product but the R&D and after sales support as well, so initially would not bash the price of a product that i already invested in. However when that product fails on me I need to consider, is it the technology ? or is it the build ? - There is clearly nothing wrong with the technology of smart trainers, however, for it to work, it needs a precision build, and thats where Wahoo have failed - Their warranty claim rate as a % of units sold is testament to that.

Now everyone will defend Wahoo because their after sales service is on point. But this muddies the water and customers are distracted from the fact that the quality of the product is actually crap. Their after sales service has to be something special or they would go out of business.

Would current Wahoo owners stay with Wahoo on their next smart trainer purchase ? I for one am off to one of their competitors.

Well said you SRAM one!

  4. Many years back I forgot my moon bag with passport, air tickets, cash etc etc on a domestic plane in the US.

Only realized it hours later.  Luckily my hotel in Chicago was not far from the SA consulate, got an emergency passport in half a day.

The idea was to get my boarding pass re-issued for the flight back home, when I got to the gate to board, they handed me my moon bag with everything still in tact, I couldn't believe my eyes.

It was obviously found on the plane by probably the airline personnel, they checked my itinerary and left it for me to be found when boarding my next flight.

    Miracles still happen .. :D

  5. The OP point is more about build quality then Wahoo SA service - although i do agree they are good - not perfect but good.

As a Core owner I've had my runins with Wahoo and also resorted to opening things myself and as a Mech Eng can say they are actually junk considering the price you pay for them.

I can sort of deal with poor service (we got used to that over time in SA) but, also as a Mech Eng, I cant stand inferior quality, there is no excuse for it unless its cheap and marketed as such.

So like I said in my previous post, I will think twice about buying a Kickr based on the quality issues mentioned here.

  6.

I got Milkit valves at the moment.  The concept that you can check & top-up sealant without deflating the tire work great, love it.

The part I don't like about them is the fact that I battle my ass off to get them to seal properly on the rim.  The inner rim valley and the valve hole size (too big) is probably causing the issue.

I ended up cutting a patch from an old inner tube for the valve to seat on, that seems to be working, only been 3 days, but so far so good.

In the long run, I'm still looking for the ultimate tubeless valves ...

  7. Its important to note that for this new method "a = 1" is a must, if it is not, you need to divide the equation by "a" to make it "1".

With the old quadratic equations, matters not, "a" can be anything.

  8. I bought the Axis set the other day. But for the life of me I can't get it to 'click' over at any torque setting.

I've tried tightening just about everything on my bike and short of stripping every bolt I can't get it to click over, even at 2nm.

Anyone else had a problem like this? Am I missing something (obvious)?

Nope, mine work perfectly.  It must be broken or you miss the click, it is pretty distinctive so maybe not.

Suggest you test it at 8Nm, at 2 it will hardly tighten, bigger chance to "miss" the click.

Edit:  See the video, that is set at 8 Nm

  9. Just goes to show how useless our SAPS are unless they are guarding a beach.

I have handed my case on a plate to my SAPS for my first Dale, they have the bike, they have all the evidence I collected for them. Think they can close it, nope.

Useless is a compliment.  Try to apply for a fire-arm license, it took 10 months just to get my "government competency" and now waiting for almost another 3 months on my license application.

Worst part is the wait is very far from over.  Yes, Covid was a spanner in the works, but that's not an excuse to take that long for something that is only weeks in other countries.

In the meantime I own a pistol locked away in a gun shop's safe, far away, for more than a year ...  ridiculous!

Edit:  That while hundreds/thousands of illegal fire-arms roam the streets freely!
