  1. If you could possibly still find them anywhere, the S5 Uno bibs are just the "work horse" of the Assos S5 range & fit excellently.

Note - it's VERY important to make sure you wash your bib shorts directly after a ride, I tend too keep a bucket with a little Omo in my shower & throw my Assos bibs directly in there, hand wash & hang to dry on a drying rack. And so far most have lasted more then 6yrs !!

  2. Interesting point that. Funny, Jeff Bezos had no experience of running a shop before he started Amazon. Richard Branson had no experience of retail before he started his mail order record business. Not sure why he needs to have worked in a lbs

Noted........and how many "experienced" people are employed by Bezos & Branson's companies ?

  3. Selling online is about making money, you dont know the customer, you dont care whether they are buying the correct item and whether they will benefit from the item. Bike shop owners are mostly in it for the love of cycling, when you sell online it is a cold straight forward transaction where someone is purely shopping based on price, In a bike shop that is not what we do, WE LIKE PEOPLE, WE LIKE DEALING WITH PEOPLE, WE LOVE CYCLING, WE LIKE TO TALK CYCLING and we like giving people good honest and correct advice, and then we sell the the correct parts, as the stuff they bought online was wrong, so if you are just bargain hunting then shop online, you will however find that very often the same item might actually be cheaper at your LBS, and the they will most likely also fit the part or component free of charge

I agree Cycle4Life, maybe Christiaan from BuyCycle should tell us how long he's been involved in the actual cycling industry & if he's ever run or owned a "brick & mortar" (LBS) store ? I find it laughable that he's here giving all this "advice", when there's NO cyclists (people with previous LBS experience) working at BuyCycle at the moment......or correct me if I'm wrong, Christiaan.

  4. Hi Guys,

Thank you for all the comments,

Just a note of warning, jimivaughn is actually an disgruntled ex BuyCycle employee named Martin Horne. Whether Christian comments on a link or not at a time frame which suits you really has nothing to do with the matter at hand Martin. If you have personal issues with Christian be man enough and come talk to him, in person.

Now...about the wheel set, Charles I like you  cool guy. With this matter I learned a couple of things.

I (wrongfully) assumed that the buyer, Charles, knew / understood the following. Will communicate it next time :

    1) BuyCycle can not warranty the wheel build as we are the middle man, BUT we will assist you in getting the warranty / refund / exchange you are entitled to from the SUPPLIERS. (In this case the wheel builder and Cape Cycles). (This should have been communicated at the time of the sale).

    2) I asked around, chatted to mechanics at Bruces etc. and they also confirmed what BDF pointed out : Mechanically, to take the spoke tensions after the wheel failed and make assertions based on those readings is laughable. If the tension on one spoke changed for any reason (wheel failure) the tensions on the opposing and surrounding spokes changes immediately. Basing a warranty claim on that alone would be contestable.

What I did communicate to Charles :

    1) About the "old stock" : I began work at BuyCycle October last year so I'm not certain whether your wheel set was ordered from Cape Cycles specifically for this sale or whether it was stock that BuyCycle pre-bought. As far as I know, and I explained it to Charles, BuyCycles' business model is that we do not keep stock on hand (except the stock which we source from Bruces). So I'm guessing that the wheel set was bought specifically for your sale, but I'm not sure.

    2) I got in contact with Cape Cycles, the response Charles posted from them is correct.

What I did not communicate soon enough with Charles, as I was waiting to receive a response :

    1) We used a reputable wheel builder to do the build (Christian will give his name to Charles). When Charles first mailed me, I phoned him and asked that he has a look at the images which Charles forwarded of the buckled wheel but have had no response yet. I am not certain what his guarantee on his workmanship is and would need him to confirm whether he will guarantee a build older than a year.

In conclusion, we want to assist you as best we can, but we can not accept responsibility for the buckled wheel granted that : Upon delivery over a year ago the wheel was 100%.

But we will get in touch with the wheel builder and give you his response, although I don't think he will guarantee a build over 6 months old, but worth a shot.

EISH...what has "disgruntled employee" got too do with the way BuyCycle communicates with clients via BikeHub.......seems very immature reply. Look at the facts of the case & not the messenger(s).

  5. tks noted and agreed. let me try clarify.

This run around has been ongoing for some time and the attached is really a condensed version. The verbiage under the  "Buycyle's comment here" was only inserted this evening.

I sent Buycyle a message on the 30/05 stating my side / view of what had happened (based on the carry-on of the past / previous couple of weeks) on the 08/05 I received a mail advising that the Manger would respond.  As of today I have not heard from the manager.

I arranged to collected my wheel on wed 15th. While collecting the wheel I was advised that Buycycle do not warranty their workmanship. I was also once again advised that the manager would call me. I have still not heard from the manager.

The comment "I did however receive professional and timely feedback from Kristie at Bucycle" also needs a little context and probably in the wrong place.

Kirstie has been trying to assist me and her communication and effort has been great over the past months.

    hope this clarifies. tks Charles

Interesting that the "manager" (Christiaan van Zyl), is quick to comment on any other Wahoo or BuyCyle related Forums, but now is VERY quite.............???

  6. I own 1 of the 1st 2005 Santa Cruz Chameleon frames to be imported into SA, back when Santa Cruz was just a town in the US....hahaha!

It originally came out with a 80mm Fox Terralogic fork, which I still have on the frame. And v-brakes. Have upgraded to discs & XT wheel set. Very happy with my 26er !!

  7. Hi Everyone

I'm based in Blouberg & generally like riding out towards Durbanville & then do a route via Contermanskloof road, over via Malanshoogte past Fair Cape, then some gravel road, joining Adderley road towards R304, then right on R302 to Durbanville. It's a awesome & quite route. So if anyone's keen to join, give a shout out.

    Or riding in general.

  8. A little late, but been busy. Bike was complete about two weeks ago. Been taking it for a few good spins around town just sorting out some strange noises but all is good now. So here she is. The beast that has replaced the Pony.... My Yeti SB66

Honestly, I have no words... It rides like a machine. The front fork eats up anything and the longer top tube with a slack ass head angle (66.5) takes technical downhill in it's stride. Honestly the faster it goes the more comfortable it feels, it honestly comes down to how big your balls are because at times you do get a little worried. But getting used to it quickly. Surprisingly nimble in the corners only issue is the 760 bars I may want to shorten to 740 but will see.

This build really would not have been possible without the following, just want to say thanks to some people that I would highly suggest to anyone doing a build

    - Bibi at Zion Bikes

    - Matt at Dial'd bikes

    - Matt at Buycycle

    - Everyone at the hub for sourcing the frame from a great guy!

    - Linden Cycles for all my small requests when I needed little parts (great service)

    - Mikes Bikes for having everything Linden didn't have (great service)

    On the shopping list soon....

    - Dropper post

    - 1x10 conversion (runnning 1x9 at the moment)

And my only concern is going that this is my first experience in tubeless. I have ripped the front tyre off the rim 3 times and the back tyre keeps on sliding out beneath me. It is concerning.... running at about 2 bar on both and the conversion was done by a great shop. So it's either the Continental tyres or just I ride too fast which can't be the case.

    Hilgard at BuyCycle !

  9. So today I saw the Pure grip XKing and RaceKing. Identical to the protection tyres, MASSIVE difference in price, New Protection: R800, Pure Grip: R499.

There is a noticeable difference in the sidewall thickness, the pure grip sidewall feels like maxxis icons.

Pricewise they should be brilliant, not too sure about the sidewall though...
