The guys actually lied. They said entries limited to 500 for the full race and that 80% were sold out in the first week of September. There is no way 300 people didn’t pitch.

These organisers need to do better with marketing. You’re charging over a grand and there was no marketing at all on this race which is baffling given social media etc.

ironic that the event organizer is a marketing lecturer at Stellenbosch… if I remember correctly.

Thought that only happened in the Vets categories. I asked if they would rather comp an entry for the next event, but no dice...

It’s pretty crazy, even running events with much lower entry fees have way better prize money.

You have to go faster than 38.23km/h for 12h (probably only possible if it's a windless day) to stand a chance to win a cash prize of unknown amount. I know 100 Miler prize money is not great, but sure that's the better event to target?

If I recall correctly, 100 Miler prize money doesn’t even break even with the entry 🤣

…interesting that they included the ‘Race of Truth’, since that seems a 10-person TEAM event, but maybe more info to follow?

    (I had thought it might have been a 20 - 40km individual team-trial, but alas, not…)

I will cry tears of joy if they turn this into a road race for elites. I dream of 5h races and stage races where the longest stage is over 4h and 2000m vert. DC as a road race would be my happy place.

8 muggings in a month, so two a week . . . . why would anyone chance even going there with those odds?

I ride here almost every day and have been for quite a few sunset missions here too.

I was not aware of the muggings - I think many other people are probably in the same boat. It is also predominantly tourists, who we know do not take the necessary precautions - lots of Ubers and out of town number plates. I suspect the people taking a chance are not aware of the danger, especially on the lower slopes. I stick to the road but the sunset missions are probably a bit sketchy, especially if you like watching the night lights after 8pm...

It seems the racing groups are getting chips, while the later groups are getting rice and split peas. Strange as I'd venture a guess the racers are the ones most likely to actually use the rice and peas... Calling @Sid the Sloth, cows=friends, peas=food...

I got chips which were donated to the mechanics 😂

All you people who think just because someone is good at what they do they surely must be cheating. I rode with Yolande 2 weeks ago in the 72km race. We finished same time. The route had a total elevation of 360m. Now that speaks of a very fast race. I passed 3 other women along the way and at the speed they were doing they could have been on a Sunday afternoon ride. So why is someone cheating/doping just because they pedal a bit harder and put in more effort than the other people. Maybe the guys that won also might have been cheating because they rode so much faster than the other guys.

There are people out there that are just in another class. No matter what age they are.

Mate, if the top guys had previous doping violations the speculation would be justified. But they don’t… I ride with most of them, consider some of them good friends who I have spent a LOT of time talking about this issue with and I really believe they’re clean. Apples and oranges.

On these Stats, I don't see anything strange, me  thinks some people's partners are miffed because they cannot beat her.... CSA and SAID must do their testing ( we know that they also do not have the funds to test so catch 22)

    https://mtbdata.com/riders/yolande-de-villiers

They have the funds to test some riders like 4 times a year with visits and then test after nationals and Herald. Maybe you just need to pick the right events.
