    Ahhh I’ve forgotten how amazing BikeHub is!! Was active until about 4/5 years back and fell out the cycling world. Years later, I start looking for a coffee machine and the first question a mate asks me: “have you checked the hub”. Well here I am… I’m considering this same machine as a first electric machine (I’ve been using moka for the past 10 years, how is she treating you? Are the upgrades a necessity or is it something I can do in time?

  2. Good morning all, so as you know I am the local newby.

    Being a newby has it's perks, which includes firsts:

    1. I just hit 3000km on the bike since I got it, yes I ride a crapload!!
    2. Did my 1st longer trip, Jhb straight to Rtb for work, and one hell of a detour back racking up a 550km (odd) trip.
    3. Doing some adventure training on Springday with Morag Campbell so looking forward to that;

    Ito training, are there any specific newby skills I should ask to be prioritized rather than others?

  3. For fairly new rider, where would you folks suggest to ride tomorrow after todays rains in cape town area?

    Or the terrain be abit too dodge ?

    A meerandal route or a tokai trail?

    I'm not Cpt based, but just a few things to remember about MTB's and rain:

    1. Mud requires a decent clean after the ride, the gunk can cause increased ware and tare so just make sure you look after your equipment;
    2. Most decent quality tyres are OK in the wet, some better than others but no reason to stay off the bike;
    3. Beware of rocks and roots in the rain, I have seen rocks turn into skating arena's!!
    4. Certain tracks/venues do not drain well, riding too soon after the rain does cause erosion which stuffs up the track, so better to leave these for a bit later;

    Enjoy!!

  4. They look great. Can they synch the key with your ignition key?

    I don't know but doubt it. Seems to be the normal issue locks. But I'm sure if you wanted you can add a BMW lock which will use the same key.

  5. Sooooo, I'm like a little kid before Christmas.

    Ordered myself a top box from "X Strong Adventure boxes" (local guys in Richardsbay), was couriered today so if aramax moves their butts I should be able to do my work trip on Thursday to the NW on the bike!!

  6. So here I am, on the eve on my 1 week anniversary of owning a bike again. So far, she has received some new tyres (Michelin Anakee Adventure), I have been in the saddle for just short of 1500km and cannot be happier. Every time I twist the grip I can barely contain the excitement, she's predictable on power delivery but the amount of power still surprises me!!

    A few things on my shopping list:

    • Alu top box (purely for commuting purposes, I little part of me is hoping that the temptation will be less to break into it vs plastic);
    • Pannier frames from SW-Motech will be shortly on the heals of the topbox;
    • As and when I plan my 1st trip I'll be getting some soft luggage (I am really like the range from toys2go).
    • At some point I will be adding the crash bars around the front with some spotlights (I am however a bit nervous about the addition of weight to the front).

    Any thoughts of my list/what I should add?

  7. Did a lekker 260km daytrip on Sunday with a colleague who recently purchased a brand new BMW F850GS.

    Took him on some smooth dirt roads around McGregor, Greyton and Villiersdorp to get some easy kilometers in as he is new do adventure riding.

    As per usual my kettle went with and there was a coffee stop with rusks early on and later we stopped to braai a worsie for boerewors rolls. Now this is what I want to do!!! On the logistical side of things: What kettle? Do you build a little fire next to the road or how do you operate?

  8. Yesterdays lekker 517km rondry for an essential Pepper Steak Pie from the Country Pumpkin in Barrydale.

    As the Missus makes pies in our patisserie in Hoekwil, it was deemed a business excursion to sample the very distant competition..............

    N2 to Heidleburg and then inland to Tradouw Pass, Barrydale, Route 62 and back through the Kamanasie and Paardepoort

    Was a fine ride.attachicon.gif204B5716-99AA-4E78-95D0-45A67BDE06C9.jpegattachicon.gif77C890B1-80C8-42AF-9606-8471E9392806.jpegattachicon.gifF7A06359-DB2B-462A-A9DC-B9CD39C96949.jpegattachicon.gif9042F492-7C83-4995-99E3-A337FD5B7FE8.jpeg

    Wow this looks spectacular!!! What top box do you have on there? I'm in the market for one but cannot decide what to get

  9. My mate's GS 1250 came shod with Anakee Adventures which he says are fantastic. They are 80 - 20 tyres and were highly rated by a couple of tests I've seen.

    I have only read good things about them. The bike currently has an Anakee on the front but something else on the back, both tyres are old tho so will be getting a new set on Monday morning.

    Picked her up this afternoon, and after a short 120km home (in a straight line it's about 20km), I did found out that she actually came with many extra's. All the small protection items already installed, just need a top box and then I'm sorted.

  10. Decide what type of riding you will be doing. Then decide if the tires on the bike are suitable for your application. By the way! Congrats and enjoy!! There is some great off the road routes to Dullstroom and Parys.

    Is there a best of both worlds tyre or not really?

    To start off well most likely be road bound until both of us are more comfortable on the bike. Realistically I have not been on a proper bike since about 2013. So a long time out the saddle.

  11. So finally I can add to this thread.

    I little R1200GS crossed my path lastweek and I pulled the trigger on it.post-19039-0-95179200-1594722881_thumb.jpeg

    Main purpose of the bike is to travel a bit with the missus and to do weekend tour a month. But with that being said on a lovely sunny day I will most likely end up riding to work etc as well.

    As a first trip, starting from Jhb, what would you recommend? I was thinking Dullstroom but this morning a friend started talking about a trip he did to Parys.

  12. Looking for a group ride to ride MTB in the Dainfern fourways Kylami Area. 2-3 rides during the week and some biggies over the weekend.

    Cheers

    Wes

    Raffa in Kyalami has an awesome group!!! Prior lockdown they were riding on a daily basis.

  13. @Captain my heart goes out to you!!

    As a an attorney who does mostly divorces I always feel sorry for the kids who get dragged into it. I always recommend my clients to attend co parenting workshops to sorta get them working together but unfortunately in 80% of the cases kids become pawns and the other party becomes a villain.

  14. Eish. Would it not have been easier to reach an agreement and then make it official with the court, by way of an addendum of sorts?

    I fully respect the ex's desire to get what has been decided on in the order, but IMO unless there was delinquence or a flat out denial of paying the arrears, it's a bit of a d1ck move to get the courts involved and criminal proceedings against the other parent.

    For context - I've seen what something like that can do to someone who is literally on the bones of their ass. A friend of mine used to have the police at his door if the maintenance payment was a couple days late, thanks to his ex calling them.

    Is a d1ck move I agree. And the state refused to withdraw the matter irrespective of the complainant and Accused reaching an agreement. Was a nightmare indeed!

  15. Good morning all, any idea what the rules are for carrying a knife on a mine (as management staff)?

    A friend of mine currently carries a folder and states that it is to be used as an eating utensil when necessary. I'm looking at gifting him a piece from Iron Side Edgeworks but do not want to get him something he can't carry.

    His wife does not know what the limitations are and I cannot ask him.

  16. No.

    Negotiate first. Always. Run to court as last resort.

    Just my point of view. Had a matter in Kemptonpark Mag Court (criminal division)  Nov 2018 where the parties had an agreement that the father will pay less for a year in order to stabilize his financial position after his employer was liquidated and he had to obtain new employment.

    Effect was that in accordance with the order he had to pay R6k p/m, he only paid R3k p/m, fell into arrears with just over R30k, mother fell on financial hardship and approached an attorney, criminal charges was filed and the Magistrate held that there is an order in place that he needs to pay, no agreement can stop the working of an order, client was given 30 days to settle arrears alternatively criminal trial will proceed.

    Insofar as I am aware the Maintenance act has not changed iro an order being amended by an agreement inter partes without ever approaching the court, but I do very little maintenance these days.

    *Edit: Just to add, the Magistrate took the stance iro non compliance with a Court order and specifically so that no attempt was made to advise the Maintenance Court of his change in circumstances and to lower the amount.
