I thought about an interesting loop hole this morning when using BHP. So let's say I am the buyer of a certain item or kit. I use BHP and the item arrives on a Friday or even a Thursday for that matter. I then decide to fit the item to my bike and take it out for a test run before confirming that the item has been delivered. After testing it I then return it and claim it to not be what I am looking for / want. Is there something that safeguards the seller against something like this?

You're quite right that it's possible a buyer does some joyriding or damages an item somehow and then wants to return it. It's a risk that we identified on launching the service and I think have discussed somewhere on the forums.

Thankfully in over 3,700 completed deals it's behaviour we've yet to encounter. Not to say that it can't happen or won't in time/with scale.

There are some aspects of Bike Hub Pay that help to guard against this:

    1. Return shipping costs are the buyer's responsibility
    2. Bike Hub holds the funds and in the case of a dispute that we're unable to resolve we'd refer the matter to the small claims court or arbitration. i.e. the joyriding buyer is going to be minus their money until the matter is resolved.

do you know how common Robert's scenario is ? It happens in many industries.

In the motor trade you often get people wanted to "test drive" a car over an evening or weekend, only to find out they just needed it for an event, or to move house etc.

Back in my childhood we had family friends that would buy clothing from a shop, leave the label on, atttend a wedding/part and then return the item.

See above, I suspect the money being held in Bike Hub Pay's case helps to deter such behaviour vs. a car demo that I'm guessing is without any kind of deposit, etc.?

Aaaaah yes Business account - still doesn’t say if its a Legit Dealer with a shopfront and website or  Garage boyz just wheeling and dealing with no overheads.

There is actually a separate distinction for "Local Bike Shops" (example), but your point is well taken. There are many in the grey area between occasional/hobbyist reseller through to the full time from home/garage reseller. Many of whom are not currently tagged as a Business.

It's something we are actively looking at to find a better way forward.

Its a combination of nutrition, training and mostly recovery from that training

@Phillippe Coetzee And as a function of doing the above well enough for long enough, you should find yourself in a group capable of holding the required speeds for 3 hours or less. Not impossible to do it on your own in the right conditions, but on top of your own fitness, the attitude and strength of the group will often be make or break for any <=3 hour ambitions.

So all the lodging already fully booked.
So your race entry is limited by accommodation.  I'll pass then.

    Good luck.

I see there are tented options from R1,000 per person.

Not a comment on the price or value offered on this event, but knowing how many riders don't use the standard supplied tents at many stage races it does seem sensible to split accommodation out like this... don't pay for something you're not using.

    Hi There

Is there any way to view favourite ads that may have expired, but have not been delisted? I've had my eye on something for a while and would like to make a move on it, but have not been notified that it has been sold. I'm hoping it is just expired and still available, if I could at least make contact with the seller to confirm, it would be a big help

We could look at adding a filter to the favourites list to show expired favourited ads. It does present some challenges though, currently you can't contact the seller of an expired ad. Only if they renew the advert will you have the option to contact them.

If you have added a favourite you will receive an alert if the ad is re-listed.

Obviously the Google option suggested is a great one to be able to simply view the ad.

    Morning

Odd issue started this morning. All adds I have ever favourited are suddenly under my favourites, regardless if they’ve expired or been deleted/sold. Rather irritating since they aren’t pushed back if they’ve been sold so I have no idea what’s available or not.

    Apologies, fixed now

Let me not come from the left wing and "klap everyone from a dizzy height" my gripes and issues with this platform has been mentioned multiple times and I can for the life of me not understand how it can be this difficult to resolve basic coding problems. O wait, I am also in IT and work with devs on a daily basis and know how difficult it is to sort out issues without a proper backlog and or structure. So here's my olive branch again: Adimins / Owners if you need assistance in resolving this crap then reach out. There's a crap ton of folks on here who's in the IT field and who'll be willing to fix the stuff correctly.

I am at a point where I am looking to delete my profile because the platform just does has too many lines of bad code that cause it to misbehave.

Evening @RobertWhitehead, ok so instead of a klap you come in from the left wing hurling insults at our team. How to make friends and fast track your support requests.

You mentioned in October last year that the platform was “extremely buggy”. At the time I asked for further info in order to address, but no such feedback has been forthcoming.

We have a well managed and prioritized backlog, but without useful feedback, tickets to match your list of gripes simply can’t be created.

Beware of this man Francios Grobbelaar I dealt with him on FB. He is a fraud. Bought a varia which he never sent.

    Thanks for sharing here @Yaz

There's a good chance that this ID is not of the actual person who scammed you but some other unwitting person they stole this ID photo from.

Could you perhaps share any additional info, e.g. how they required payment, phone number etc. ?

Think that’s just the value on marking things sold and not putting in how much they got low balled by.. 🤔🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

Correct, this figure is the listed at price and not necessarily the final selling price.

We have data for a small but meaningful sample (1,200 transactions) and the difference was just 5.11%, i.e. selling price on average just 5.11% lower than listed price.

In 2022 that difference was 4.2% across a similar number of transactions.

ok, so i went in, and initially nothing clicked unread i had a notification from 59 weeks ago that i never read. clicked it and now its gone. so doesn't appear to be an issue except it was fine until last night or until the release mentioned.

Ok, that’s working as expected then… but any old “new” chat notifications will be a bit disconcerting.

We’ve had a lot of feedback around it being too easy to miss a message. The idea is to show unread message count more prominently to prevent that.

  11. 44 minutes ago, Meezo said:

    Anyone else getting notifications alerts?

Even though there's nothing unread or nothing new

Can you please share a screen shot of what alerts you're seeing? Either here, DM or help@bikehub.co.za

We released an update to the Chat functionality in Classifieds this morning that now incorporates a Chat inbox icon. It will show the count of unread messages, but that might include any old chats you never opened.

I think it is a very nice bike apart from the fork and brakes.

Don't know the Trek Rims at all. Also see they have Shimano hubs on there. Are they cup and cone or proper sealed bearing hubs?

How is the Transx dropper holding up?

After my dodgy Sram Level brakes on the old bike these actually feel ok.

My Roscoe came with Ethirteen LG1 enduro rims and not the Bontrager. But the hubs are cup & cone.

Dropper does the trick, for now. Only complaint is the plastic lever.

The Slade was sold so unfortunately missed out on that one but at least I'll have a brand new Roscoe now.

For those that don't know yet, the 2023 version's geo was updated with more modern dimensions. Can't wait to get out there and be part of the elite few that ride agro hardtails 👀

I got the Roscoe 7 recently as a life simplification move / downgrade from a seldom-used & rapidly depreciating carbon dual sus.

I'm very stoked with it and although already eyeing upgrade options (e.g. fork) if I'm honest with myself it works just great as-is for my current ambitions. I don't think you'll be disappointed. If current pricing on the Trek ZA site is accurate at R20k it's a solid deal IMO.

Used to ride years ago and really enjoyed it (mainly trail). I previously had a full suspension bike(s) - been through a few over the years.

Want to get back into cycling and was thinking of buying a hardtail (based on not wanting to break the bank, and relatively chilled riding).

Will I regret it? Will it kill my back and knees? Never ridden a hard tail before but thinking about picking up a 140mm Trek Roscoe.

    Appreciate your input ;)

@matthewproctor did you get that Roscoe in the end?

Your thread gave me another nudge to ditch my dual suspension for the simplicity of a hardtail. And a cue to look at, and then buy the Roscoe a little while ago (thanks!):

    image.jpeg

I loved my previous carbon Epic Evo. It was comfy, suitably light and awesome when I was stage & marathon racing more often. But in recent years it was losing out to road rides, runs and surfs and hung in the garage depreciating.

At R25k on sale the Roscoe was a no brainer for my current MTB needs.

After a few rides on it I'm 110% sold on the decision. It's a fun, capable bike with upgrade potential if I feel inclined. All without the guilt of a shiny carbon bike losing value in the garage.

On my local Tokai trails (the mid-range Snakes, nothing too hectic) it's impressively smooth. I definitely notice where the DS made me a lazy rider and now have to use my knees and hips more to soak up drops, etc. But I see that as more of a feature than a bug. Overall happy with the HT and so far knees and back aren't laying any complaints.

The platform is getting soooooo annoying lately, it is extremely buggy and the latest addition to my frustration is that I can't reply to any messages to ads either on the phone nor the laptop. Here's a screen recording of what's happening. Same on the laptop.

    • I get an email notifying me of a new chat
    • I open the email and click on the reply button
    • It opens the Hub and shows the history of all my chats and then doesn't allow me to open the chat which I originally wanted to reply to.

I use Brave browser on the phone and Chrome on the laptop

    Apologies for the issue @RobertWhitehead

A number of others have reported a similar problem on Chat in the last week. There's an issue with some browsers hanging onto old cached files.

Pressing Ctrl + F5 to force refresh the page should resolve it (CMD + Shift + R on Mac). If that doesn't work clearing cache should do the trick.

You mention this the latest addition to your frustration. What other issues are you experiencing? Please report to us and we'll get it fixed asap!

    115 - $ 320 for the link, $ 200 for the pivot hardware cos that's also missing.

Swingarm - forget. That 4.5 is a long discontinued model. Best you can do with that front triangle is make a wall lamp.

As for the comments comments - anyone reported the ads? Would it be justified? Not everyone in teh classifieds knows the story, and not everyone is in the forum discussions. @Matt, what would you say? Maybe we can stop this dumpster fire from propagating further.

    Thanks for the tag.

I've removed the ads for now.

My view: The frames / parts of frames may well have value to someone, BUT all the questions raised here are critical on the true condition of the frames (are they warranty frames?) and even if condition is fine as you note, the required parts may not be available (at least not new via Yeti).

If a seller notes all of the above to fully inform a prospective buyer I don't see an issue with advertising. If they're not willing to do that they can take it elsewhere.

Thanks to you and the other eagle-eyed Hubbers who reported this earlier.

@Nick got in touch with the reporter who confirmed that the bike was recovered by insurance as @Barry shared above. i.e. the current seller is legitimate and not selling stolen property.

All round thanks to the Bike Hub community for spotting the FB post and initial dodgy seller and keeping eyes peeled here, even if it was a false alarm. 👏

Ok it didn't work with refreshing but I see its working in incognito mode so must be a browser issue. Very strange. Thanks

For some reasons we've seen instances where certain browsers are stubbornly hanging onto cached files even after a hard refresh. Clearing out cache should resolve it.
