  1. If the seller is no linger interested in conversations, and is just ghosting you.

Three pronged approach... I considered this recently, but opted not to screw the shop in my case:

    1. case of fraud at the police station against the shop and the person that sold it.

    2. Call the shop's suppliers and the bank and tell them the shop is being investigated for fraud. And you have the case number to prove. So all true.

    3. Name and shame on here, and on FB and Google ratings.

That will do so much more damage than they expected for being asses.

  2. They go under the same banner - but Dekra head office confirmed that the WBC reports are "retail friendly" (their words). These reports can also not be used for roadworthy, even if it states the vehicle is roadworthy - unless they include the RWC with the sale. These reports are not picked up by actual Dekra branches if you want to pull it for reference, say when you bought a supposedly roadworthy car and fail the roadworthy test a day later - on many faults.
This retail friendly report misses many many obvious things in favour of the retailer, and is not worth the paper that it isn't printed on, being a PDF.

WBC trades as an auction house - and that means they are not liable for vehicle descriptions to be accurate. A fun little loophole. But they do own the cars while on their property, so don't understand how they can get by that.

  3. If you only know the thoughts I had.  I was seriously peeved. But probably partly because I was recently screwed on another purchase.

I think this thread and BH pitchfork crew lighting the torches is a bit like sending a juvenile to prison for a day. The possibility of the what can happen next is very clear. And sometimes its a necessary process to weigh up someone's choices and their consequences. I will rate seller accordingly, but I agree with Robbie's conclusion here - name and shame can sink a water treading company.

  4. Thank you Bikehub, and sorry to let you down in not bringing out the fires...

I shared this link with him and to show that I'm honestly trying to resolve this without being vindictive.  And sure, the N&S would have been greatly satisfying - but based on the current state of the cycling industry - I am not surprised when cashflow for dealers are not abundant. Partly the reason I was so flippen worked up, I feel the pinch and can't waste money atm.

I proposed a compromise that he accepted, we split the price for the parts - by my reasoning - I still need a hub and he can't sell a non-functioning hub.  And I'm just not prepared to send the hub and wait for payment based on my experience to date.

He promptly paid. Money still to clear.
Not happy with the process, but happy with the resolve.

  5. I bought a hub from a seller on BH on the 19th of March. The gent is selling under his own name, but is a shop owner also.

He advertised a few different hubs in various configurations - but all with interchangeable freehub bodies.

I inquired as to taking one of the centerlock hubs with an XD driver rather than the MS driver that was on there and he agreed. Sent me 'n photo with the driver in place on said hub.

He made the price for the hub and I paid him for the hub and shipping first thing the next morning. Seller said that he will send the waybill number at lunchtime. (he's far from me)

    Payment was done by 8:29am.

    Then the waiting started.

On the 20th I reminded him to send me the waybill number if he has not already. no reply.

On the 25th I reminder him to send me the waybill number if he has not already. no reply.

I phoned him. he did not answer but returned my call, and he had to be reminded who I was.

On the 26th I reminded him again - and then he sent me the waybill number. Hooray.

On the 28th I picked up the package and rushed home. First thing you do with a package, rip it open and spin for hub sound. Aaaaand nothing. no sound. No engagement.  Turns out the freehub spins well... freely in both directions. I take the freehub off - and there's only one ratchet ring and spring in the hub.  One spring and one ratchet ring missing.  I immediately send the gent a video, photo and explanation of what's missing.  Seller replies that he'll look for it.

2 April. I remind him re this at 9:40am and then at 20:52pm. He replies after nine that he is looking for a spring.

4 April (Thursday). I tell him that if he can't find the part by Tuesday the 9th, that he must please refund my money including shipping and I'll return the hub to him. No reply.

5 April - reminder for this. No reply.

8 April (Monday) I find the parts locally for a decent price and give him the option to pay for the parts or refund my money and get the hub back. no replies.

9 April (Tuesday) I ask him what he chose. I have the part wrapped and ready to be sent. He then sends a voice message saying he's not willing to pay for the parts, since the hub is worth more than i paid.  I didn't make the price and the hub I bought was not needing any parts based on our discussions.
I reply that that's fine. I'll send the hub back, as soon as he refunds my money. I carried all the risk up to now, and that this time around, he can do the EFT first.

10 April. (Wednesday) he send me a message saying I must send the hub back, and when he receives it he will do the refund. I'm sorry, but so far no reason to trust that I will get my money back. I reply to that effect.
By now my blood is boiling. I let him know that my patience is wearing thin and that that I've asked around, that he is supposedly a nice guy that does decent business. But that that does not help me when this is the kind of service I receive.  Having to drive all communication and no resolve from his side.

I receive more comms from him saying that he can't give me my money back until I send the part, and that his company is not as big as the one I work for (references the company I work for), and because of that, I won't understand why he can't do the refund before he gets the part back.

So far his word has been worth 0 on a contract.

I have all communication on whatsapp.

now keyboard warriors; gallery - do I return the hub and twiddle thumbs hoping he refunds me? Do i name and shame?  Or do I go drastic, and take both legal steps, give his business a kick in the teeth and name and shame him on here and FB?  And yes, I know its small change, but its the principle that has me extremely pissed off here.

Do you guys really clean your bikes after EVERY ride as described in the posts?

    Every single ride?

Yoh..... I think I last cleaned my road bike the day before CTCT

I mean I wipe the chain when I lube it and run a brush through the cassette every now and then, but yoh.... That is a LOT of cleaning

haha, I surely don't. I do a once a month 10min wash and dry. Basic chain lube after. Will clean chain every 4 -6 months with actual chain cleaner.

I've been using blixem degreaser on my whole bike for years but it tend to give the gloss paint job a dull finish, so now only using it on the drivetrain.

Switched to Shield car wash for the rest of the bike with no issues

also use RSP hyper wiper after each wash and no issues.

Sometimes i use the foam cannon with some snowfoam if the bike is dirty and busy washing the cars..... no hassles.

    Yeah no. Naah.
Over the years I’ve owned a wide gamut from ugly ducklings to show ponies. The showponies never gave me more joy, in fact I was hesitant to thrash them. I swapped a full carbon Bmc FS01 for an aluminium Trance2.
I love riding, not the joy of owning bikes.

    Hey Philip,

Ek staan gereeld en staar net vir my fiets. Dis soos braai vuur kyk. En ek weet daai Scott van jou is ook so mooi dat jy tydjie kan kyk...

  9. Horses for courses...
I have both and my 10c is that a good HT is a fun bike to ride. Fun has to be in top 3 reasons for me to ride, otherwise I just don't keep doing it.  I tried a HT a few years ago and we just did not mesh and so I sold it and did not look back. Then a few months ago I tried a new alloy HT frame with all the right angles and attributes (brand withheld on purpose), and it is a n absolute blast. It is not the same as a 120 full suss, and can't replace a 160mm enduro bike for obvious reasons - 'fun' being front and foremost.
But for longer trail days; a bit of tar, some roughstuff, and really enjoying trail features for what they are, the HT is great.

Fact is, it is cheap enough to give it a try first. Like it - keep it. Don't like it - move along. no harm, no foul.
