this is my theory too... there's a huge chain for stolen goods not just bikes...

not restricted or limited in the order below, but here's my view

    - the guys that steal or rob does the deed (R200-2000)

    - this then moves to a drug/reward point (R2000-5000)

    - at the drug/reward these guys are well connected, and as such have various "chains" for which category of stolen goods go where... in our case bikes (R2000-10000)

    - this is where the bike then goes to an "expert"  in moist cases as Cappi's post the bikes are stripped and the frames are sold for chips on/in the street... the parts are filtered through and sold in the 2nd hand market, my guess a huge number of them are sold here on bikehub (R+)

I've had 2 bikes taken out of my stable, one was at the Die Burger stolen off the rack many many moons ago, the other i was robbed. the both followed a similar pattern. The one bike we got back, with zero help from the SAPS... except we bought them back. The other i chased until before my bike moved into the 3rd point on my list... at this stage it got ugly (if anyone knows anything about cowboy and ghetto town in hanover park), i backed off and got a payout from the insurance.

    this 100%

  2. Lost a bike due to bike jacking. My bike went into Langa Area. Never saw it or an advert trying to sell it. I'm convinced there is guys stripping the bike for parts and chopping up the frames. Especially high end. The frames is the most recognisable item. 90% of the parts are sold on.
maybe a few bikes,10-20% are sent across borders to family members.
Heard scary stories of how delivery scooters are stripped into parts and packaged and sent to Malawi and Zim.

  3. Hi. Looking for some advice please.

So my eldest turned 18yrs and was kicked of my family Vitality program. He enjoyed the benefit for the discounted gym membership with Virgin active and movies.
Anyone have tips on what will be the easiest and most cost effective way to get him back onto Vitality for the 2 benefits above .

I don't have Medical aid with Discovery but only a Life assurance intergrater policy.

    TIA

  4. I've a 2015 Spark 710 and did an internal a week ago. My first dropper install and it was pretty straightforward. I went 1x so I used the front derailleur port. You can use a small file to open up the access. I used a drill because I didn't have a file that small on hand. It's probably less than 5mm to drill. Just used the smallest bit and moved up till the cable could fit.

did the same on my 2014 spark. used the FD port upfront quik and easy. there is a little door just above the BB under neath.. open it up to help guide the cable. works like a charm.

  5. Some feedback:

First of all thank you for all the replies.  So after having to battle to find new shifter cables I managed to get some.  Bloody scary to think that what I used to consider normal spares has become a problem to find.  But none the less I got the shifter cables so this past weekend was due date to replace them.  Replacing the inner cables turned out to be less of an issue than anticipated.  And the hose I wanted  to use was not gonna work in anyway as the exit point out of the frame at the rear derailer is only about 2 mm wide.  It is simply pushing the cable from the BB where there is a cap to the back and within a couple of touch and go attempts the cable pops out.

The original issue as to why the gears would not shift through all the available gears was quickly visible when I wanted to remove the old cable ...

Battled to push out the old cable but it came out.  Still used the old cable housings as the new cables came with white and I could not source black.  The gears at the moment switch smoothly though.

exact same issue i had lol. glad its sorted.

  6. HI, i had exact same issue with my Ultegra 11spd. Eventually decided t check what was happening. all the other gears indexed perfectly. Decided to pull the cable out (also internal routing) at the shifter and thats where i saw the cable started "fraying" inside the shifter and would not let it shift into the smallest gear. replaced and lubed a new cable also cleaned the old existing housing. Its 100% now.
    hope this helps.

ps. make sure there are no small bits of dirt or old cable in the shifter.

  7. I had a smiliar if not exact exp. Also husband and wife story and the paypal requests. Exactly the same lines as u posted above. I asked a few questions as to what camera they were going to use the camera lenses on....as they didn't even ask about condition or reason for sale. Just wanted to buy it. H even wanted me to send it via PnP aramex bag.... i just ignored him. The supplied address also showed some creepy place in GP. The best part is " i wont be accepting the parcel myself, my doorman will be" :whistling: scammers on FB marketplace.

  8. Found the problem with the shifting so if anyone had similar issues with delayed shifting in the midrange you need to set the b-tension about 3mm below the recommended line on the derailleur.

Mine is 90% better and I’m sure I can fine tune the remaining 10%.

Took a bit of googling but it fixed my problem.

Thanks for this. Will give it a try. Thought maybe my setup was not correct or maybe that I should of just gone with the xt.
  9. go 1 x 12. price difference is so small vs 1x11. I went with the SLX upgrade kit with Sunrace casette 11-51. and a 34 oval upfront. That was from a 3x10 SLX system. im loving it. No need to change freehub. plus the 34t upfront is good enough for the flats. Check the gear ratio calculations and see if u happy with what u will get. current vs upgrade.

  10. Interesting ....

Coming from a 3x we were able to bolt the new ring onto the mid position, no spacers.  BUT, we needed shorter bolts as it was only holding one ring.

i used old washers that i had to space it up as i couldnt tighten the exixting bolts up with new lyne chainring as a temp fix. Went and bought new spacers so that i could use the old bolts. else had to but new shorter bolts. hope this make sense.

this was on my shimano XT crankset, M780

  11. Hi. im busy with the same conversion atm.

I bought the shimano slx upgrade kit with sunrace cassette and bought the lyne components 34T oval 104bcd chain ring.

Chainring already fitted to the 10spd XT crank. My 12spd gruppo is still on the way. bike is running smooth with the old 10spd cassette.
    Fitted to a Scott 920 2013 model. it was also a 3x10.

  12. So with all the indoor cycling happening, I've now run out of chamois cream, Ass Magic to be precise.

Bummer as all the cycling shops are closed!

Can anyone recommend a 'pharmacy-available' equivalent.? - have tried a couple of baby products but they have been filled with kaolin, which seems hinder rather than help a smooth ride!

    TIA

been using Madaji milking cream ( from Dischem) for years now. cheap too. came recommended by the hub a while back.https://www.google.com/search?q=madaji+milking+cream+benefits&rlz=1C1ASVA_enZA753ZA753&oq=madaji+milking+cream&aqs=chrome.0.0j69i57j0.11125j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

  13. Hi, i had a friend with a similar issue. his problem was the adapter. somehow it had a break in it. The moulded part. if i remember correctly its a 13 pin to 7 pin adapter. i googled the adapter and checked the wiring myself. i then tested the adapter with a multimeter and found the problem. hope this make sense. also a vw.

  14. i was 18 years with vodacom and made the move to Telkom 2 months ago. Reception has been good. data was good. i went to Citrusdal recently and the phone automatically switched to roaming. reception and data was a bit slowly then. i believe that Telkom roams on Vodacom since 1 July and no longer MTN. i did however manage to cut my bill down by almost 50% ( 4 contracts)
