  1. Thanks all, will check them out. As I stated in my first post, I am an amateur wanting to learn, and am willing to fix what I break of ocurse. Respect is no1 priority and I understand that. I would never dream of just rocking up and jumping, ever. It's like jumping into someones back yard and just using their swimming pool! I have been to Delvera yes, they are fun, but the track is pretty fast and the table tops are big. They have added 3 more MASSIVE jumps with MX style ramps, insane. There's also a quarter pipe to play on. Heard about gum trails, and I know some of the best SA riders hang out there. Again, they look huge. Will def investigate Bell Air, any directions for me? As for UCT, I guess - compared to other jumps - they are smaller, but the last two jumps are insane. Needless to say, the last jump is a bit of a tabletop / spine, but you need to clear that beast of a jump before it! Thanks for all the feedback s far. Great.
  2. @SteveCT - thanks for the map, may pull around there one day just to check it out and at least see if we can get to have a word with the locals, see their moves, and get a better feel for the type of jumps they are. Do they seem pretty big?
  3. Great, will snoop around and see what I can find. Found some really fun jumps in stellenbosch, a block or two away from Medi Clinic Hospital. Not sure who they belong to, but have never seen them being ridden at all. There are about 4 or so that are in pretty good condition, the rest are overgrown with grass, so my guess is that they either belong to some kiddies who've abandoned them, or they were built and used by students who've moved on. Either way, they're fun.
  4. If you don't mind me asking, where about in Constantia are they? And is there a bit of territory marking at all? Always keen to explore new areas, but sometimes the locals are not as welcoming.
  5. Here's a Google Map of the jumps: http://maps.google.co.za/maps?q=woolsack+drive,+cape+town&hl=en&ll=-33.954396,18.46617&spn=0.001902,0.004128&sll=-28.45,24.7&sspn=32.715242,67.631836&t=h&z=19 Image does not do them justice, they are honestly VERY well built and maintained. Scary, some big jumps but also great chicken runs to practice the flow and control on.
  6. @cptmayhem As already mentioned, they are just off woolsack drive to the left. Easiest way to get there: Take M3 as if going to UCT from Hospital Bend As you approach Mostards Mill keep left but DONT turn off there. Take Woolsack drive to the left Go all way down to Main Road Swing a left Take second street left (Chapel Street) Drive ALL THE WAY to the top, past the sports fields. You wont miss them, they are a gift honestly! As for permits, I have not yet ridden there - only drooled over them - but once turned off from Woolsack, take a RIGHT at first little 4 way intersection, head on up to UCT's Upper Campus, and you can obtain a permit from the Sports Admin Building. As far as I know, it's about R25 a day. Looks like great fun. I have been alone once to look at them, but I do not feel comfortable as I've seem some funnies hanging around. There are some rules and regulations on a UCT cycling board / notice, obey them. Keen to ride with anyone who can show us the ropes?? Anyone? Regards, Simon
  7. Hi there, I am looking for anyone who would be keen to spend a couple of hours showing me and a friend the in's and out's of dirt jumping, specifically on a BMX in our case. We are amateur beginners, but are not afraid to give it horns and have attempted some jumps already, although not with a 100% success rate. We are in Cape Town CBD area, so ideal spots for mentoring would be UCT jumps, unless you have any other suggestions. Of course we'd be willing to pay for this. Regards, Simon
  8. Hello community, Would anyone care to share any dirt jump locations around Cape Town? I am slowly but surely getting into BMX dirt jumping but there seems to be distinct lack of jumps in and around the greater Cape Town area. The only noticeable jumps I have come across are the UCT jumps, and while they look beautiful, they are a little daunting for the seasoned beginner like me. The chicken run and table tops look like a good place to start. Are there any not-so-huge jumps in the surrounding areas? We're responsible, and will always repair any lip / jump damage that my arise. Regards, Simon
