  1. Meezo were you in the Stars team that finished among the front-runners?
  2. Ah ok. makes sense that if most of the climbs are in the 2nd half you can get in trouble if you don't pace yourself correctly
  3. Also a newbie for this race, flame me if I'm wrong but 1500m of climbing over 100km of dirtroads doesn't sound particularly scary... Very much in line with the climbing you can expect on a standard mtb marathon or a day in a normal stage race.
  4. Skistar it's a mass participation event, so not technical at all. A racing snake like you shouldn't have problems with the 50km
  5. It's optional really, only if you want a home to return to after the race.

    Rugby...

http://www.timeslive.co.za/thetimes/2014/06/12/why-frans-quit-boks More details on the money stuff
  7. Why is it that overseas riders can referred to as being tested positive for drugs but local riders only have "adverse analytical findings"?
  8. I don't think its really an "exclusivity" or elite thing, It's a massive event with lots of "irregular" riders and I think the organisers merely want to keep the overambitious noobs out of harm's way. If you can name 1 or 2 marathon's you've done they will let you in
  9. I love how the Dr Evil is promoted... "Dr Evil an Ideal warm-up for Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast" since when is a 3-day stage race merely a warm-up for a 100km race?
  10. You need an invitation.... Maybe mail the organisers and ask nicely

interesting article from (not) my favourite journo.. Cut Steyn some slack http://www.sarugbymag.co.za/blog/details/cut-steyn-some-slack

    Rugby...

If one of the best players in the team suddenly withdraw without explanation, it's inevitable that there will be speculation, discussion, judgement etc. Otherwise these threads would be very boring...
  13. Awesome scenery & very good preparation for the Karoo2Coast. That little technical section at the end caught me unaware last year and made me suffer & swear! This year I'll be better prepared (at least mentally)

    Rugby...

He played 26 tests between 2009 and 2012.... Not sure if the link work but you can look it up on espnscrum http://www.espnscrum.com/statsguru/rugby/player/15421.html?class=1;template=results;type=player;view=match I actually kind of agree with your last throw-away comment (KP) - he does seem to be a complex character and this is not the first time he had issues with the national coach.

    Rugby...

He was available and playing for the Boks when he was playing for Racing Metro, so he was having his cake and eating so to speak. Not sure why he would return to the Sharks for half the money, unless SARU made some promises as stated - so I tend to believe the broken promises story. SARU, broadcasters, administrators, sponsor etc making millions of dollars from rugby, its big business for everybody, unfair to expect the players to only do it for "privilege and honour" while everybody around them is pocketing.
  16. Yes, rather skip this one and enter the Munga..
  17. I despise rogue riders and I will support ANY measure to punish them. That said, I don't think this initiative in isolation will be particularly effective unless it's combined with better "policing" of trails. Rogue riders aren't idiots and it's not as if they are going to volunteer their identities to everyone that attempts to confront them. I will get excited by this when I see the identity of the first banned rider on the Amarider website.
  18. I'll correct you where you are wrong Shebeen is referring to the lucky draw of $100,000 which is the only prize the mere mortals will be in contention for ie the chance to win 10 times your entry fee back
  19. Has there been any indication that this event will actually be broadcasted or do we all just assume that it will
  20. From the Munga Propaganda Dept aka Tread Magazine MUNGA MTB CONFIRMS MILLION DOLLAR PRIZE MONEY http://www.treadmtb.co.za/munga-mtb-confirms-million-dollar-prize-money/
  21. "will inform the relevant event organizers once a rogue rider has been found to be guilty of frequent illegal riding" Exactly how are they going to identify the rogue riders? Ask them nicely for their names? And how many chances do you get? Not exactly holding my breath that this is going to work..
  22. The entry level Olympic ones you get at Sportmans Warehouse works fine. I have had my for 2 years and have done 1000's of kilos on them & they have taken a lot of bashing and they are still going strong
  23. Some thoughts on the Knysna 200. I expected it to be easier... Day 1 and Day 2 was much tougher than I anticipated - on the whole the climbing is comparable to something like W2W. Being a smaller race without a proper race village and falling outside something like the Oyster Festival, the race lacked a bit of atmosphere for me. That said, not having to queue for food & toilets and riding the more technical sections at your own pace without having to contend with crowds of egos & varying skills a big plus. Free beer at the finish line...
