  1. After a too long break, The Orville is starting again later this week:
  2. I'm with you on this. Strava for the social aspect, but I picked up so many fringe-followers and 'self promoters' (like BookFace) that I've reverted Strava privacy setting to "only me", and use Garmin Connect for analysis. Bragging rights, whether performance (KOM) of volume (Legends) are completely irrelevant, and regularly doling out kudos became more of a chore than actual acknowledgement of great accomplishments.
  3. As a non-alcohol drinker, I prefer to stay out of the 'shared pool'. Although the crowd I hang with keep tabs of what they consume, and pay accordingly. Everybody normally pays more than a 10% tip, so generally there is enough to cover for those who are short on that day.
  4. Who remembers the day the word 'lugubrious' popped up on the hub? What other interesting / uncommon words crossed your path?
  5. Ok seems like the LHS of the sidewalk is dual usage (shared bike / pedestrian) but then the Google imagery might be outdated as stated.... Looking at the Strava ride in question it wouls appear as if the road was crossed at the traffic circle from RHS to LHS and back to RHS after the circle? Road crossed to LHS between Zita and Thelma Martin again.... Co-ords given seems to be in the veld some distance from the road, nearest intersection, being the circle. Question to OP is whether the altercation happened when he changed sides on the road, being when he entered the pavement / left the tarred surface? Pedestrian would have been startled, even if he was slim and fit... Much better to stay on the correct side of the road and use the cycling pathway at all times if it is there (it is the law) So, I'll retract my assertion of staying off the pavement in this case, however I have serious doubts whether the OP was on the correct side of the road. I will also add a query w.r.t. the speed the OP was going at just before the incident, which seems to be irresponsible at greater than 40km/h. More so for use on a resource which is shared with pedestrians. Safe cycling and commute back home this afternoon to the OP!
  6. the law is the law... I agree. Considerarion is key. Tell that to cyclists on the Spruit not giving way and space for pedestrians and "MTB"ers riding pavemunts.
  7. Rule of thumb and common sense id that bigger vehicles yield to smallers. Cars for bikes and bikes for pedestrians. Else? Tjop!
  8. If the co-ords are correct, I'd like to know where the cycyling path is?
  9. properly demarcated with signs? It was next to the tar road? Co-ords indicate junction of Jacqueline & Adela
  10. Yoh do not belong on the pavement if on a bicycle. Pavement belongs to the pedestrians, irrespective of body condition. That said, it is not an excuse to push people into the traffic.
  11. That is very far away from (the) cape...
  12. I have an Edge 800 and I've mostly used the maps to get to the start venue of some forsaken rides. I've once used my cell phone to navigate me back to VG after I got lost, and found a stretch of tar. Doubt it will show ditches, hidden tree stimp, mambas & stray lions, etc. Better to use eyes, ears and common sense for those. Gives you time to unplug from all the electronixs (earphones as well) and enjoy nature! Off roading is more fun exploring than following purple lines on a screen. On road you should rather not stray into the unknown without prior reconnoitering. Much the same for unmapped MTB trails...
  13. This now the organisation who cannot get their provinces to organise provincial duathlon champs? .... The organisation who killed a long term development program of one of their members for some short term TV dress rehearsal?
  14. the maps you are using might not have the ST you want to navigate as routable? Have you tried downloading and using openmtb.org ( http://bitly.com/M6Ay8T ) maps?
  15. Same type of 'safety issues' as what CSA had with PPA races? a.k.a. politics ...
  16. They finished momenys ahead of BL. I was hoping that we would have caught them, but maybe it was all for the better with the short riders and cones...
  17. Race office is as unhelpful as I expected, but not hoped for I need to spwak to the race organisers she told me.. WTF Anycase ahe told me then to go to registration and speak to the people there.... Balls up of note. What are my chances of a refund?
  18. I'm waiting for a repky to a mail I've sent to that address... Phone number is still hooked to an answering machine...
  19. If you were in VB I could swop you for an HL entry....
  20. Wait wait. Me first. I'm getting through to a message "Office hours are 10am to 5pm" post earlier in thread. Numbers have been assigned on the start list as per event entry web page
