  1. Geez but these guys are absoutely pathetic. I'm looking for a Neo2 T disc extractor so I can clean up my trainer. I see they have two options on their local site so I query online. Suprisingly I get an email response quite quick saying 'we have any tool extractors in stock'. Great so I ask how I can order one foe the 2T only to be told they meant they DON'T have any tool extractors in stock and I should check with Cycle Lab who are one of their biggest outlets. I check with Cycle Lab who initially don't know what the product is, and then they tell me they'll check if Garmin SA have stock...

    Kill me now.

How Garmin has such bad local representation absolutely blows. My. Mind.

Me thinks the difference in cadence is what gets to you. On the MTB you should typically be doing a higher cadence than on the roadbike. On the roadbike most riders tend to push bigger gears, hence you gain muscle strength as @daveno7 says - BUT you lose "steam" in terms of cardio.

Try to increase your cadence intentionally when on the road bike. Try to mimic your MTB cadence, while working in some high intensity, low cadence, intervals in between.

I've had this very same experience when switching between MTB and road bikes.

I also found this is 100% the difference, by upping my cadence just 10 rpm higher on my road bike its helped my MTB and road bike fitness.

Hi. Do quite a bit of climbing. Redhill, Llandudno, suiker, chappies and then in Durbanville surroundings

Ok fair enough, I would look at the difference in pricing with the 34/50 vs 36/52 and decide from there. 34/50 should be fine for those hills, even with a 29 cassette.

Yessir.  Not letting go of the sleek GTV that I've had for 23 years anytime soon, primarily because of the awesome 6 cylinder Busso engine.  I know two guys in my city who both bought their own Busso-engined GTV's back within a year after selling them.  They're that good.

    Thats for sure,  I had a 916 GTV 3.0, got a 916 Spider 3.0 at the moment.

  5. Get the best new trainer you can get for your money, probabaly the Core. I've found smart trainers to be a real game changer because of their convenience and lack of logistics. Jump on and ride whenever you want knowing that you're safe and the training is very effective. Even R400 a month for Zwift is value for money if you use it.

Most of my clothing, and some cycling items, are size L.

With a few brands I have to take their XL.

According to the Ciovita size chart I must take their XXL 😵  I went to their shop to try on the sizes as I did not want to believe their chart

Jip, XXL it is with Ciovita.  (The only brand where I need this)

Ok so then I'm XXL too apparently

LOTS of complaints about the sizing of Ciovita.

In fairness ... READ their sizing charts !!  Actually do the measurements, then check the chart and order as per the chart.  Dont let your ego overrule when their chart is up to TWO sizes larger than other clothing !!  When you select from their chart their tops actually fits very nicely.

As for their Corsa bibs .... not again.

I got caught twice because of this, definitely have to blame myself but in all fairness if you are a certain size with almost all brands and their equivalent is for an 11 year old midget then their sizing is definitely also an issue. Tried contacting them but they just ignored me. Never and never again.

I entered the 55km 947 MTB race with zero seeding or any longer "recorded" rides, you just get a crappy starting time

In my personal opinion, the 55km is not technical at all, but, the distance is a real challenge to finish, especially as a new rider

I must say I was quite surprised by how many riders last year battled with very basic obstacles, maybe they should enforce the seeding rather. Bottlenecks were ridiculous in the heat.

  9. As already mentioned, rather do the 25 km first. You need to have a seeding for longer rides to do the 50 km anyway else you won't be able to enter. Maybe try some of the other rides like the Trailseeker series first to get first hand experience of the rides. Most importantly, have fun.

  10. Too much of a liability for me personally. If they even suspect you may have a gun your chances of getting away unharmed are probably zero and the bike becomes a distant second and the gun first prize for them. I have to ask myself what are the odds of me needing to use that gun and successfuly using it, versus it being used on me or taken. On the other hand I completely uderstand anyone feeling they need to carry one in this day and age.

  11. Apologies if this is not completely related but I probably don't wash mine as often as I should (no it doesn't stink yet thankfully 😁) but lately it seems to be underreading big time. I gave it a wash the other day and its just as bad, is it dead? Its not even a year old so I'm not impressed.
