Students - they want their own 'rubber bullets'
Maybe I should make a 'strike' placard to promote them at the flea market
Where did the shipment of meranti come from? My bet's on African Mahogany
Superglue will eventually fail - epoxy is the only way to go.
You could try a product called "Sticks like sh.. ". Yes that is what it is called just finish the last word.
Sticks like sh is no good - too elastic in the end.
Tried superglue on the bushing/washer, been going strong with the whole office abusing it this morning. Like I said, it's added reinforcement for the MDF part so needs some rigidity. I'll see if it fails later, for now I need to get this thing out to market ... out of the 12 guys in my office I've already sold 30 of them
Any advice for bonding something like a washer to 6mm MDF? I've got a small 8mm dowel running between two pieces of 6mm MDF as a shaft/axle, and it needs some reinforcing as there's a fair amount of pressure on the axle.
Contact glue?
AKFix?
Epoxy? (last resort, please, I've got no time for mixing and batching and and and)
As far as 3D design apps goes, I read & hear a lot of good about Atuodesk's Fusion 360, its used by many accomplished and with-it in the 3D printing and CNC world, and its free for non commercial and small business.
Might be work d/l and investing time in a few u-tube tutorials
Thanks Kosmo, gonna check it out.
Yeah, I got a licenced version of Sketchup 2014 from a mate as a gift (he didn't want it) and been using it for a while. Good enough to do some basic designs, and showing it off to clients is always fun
Ping Stretched@Birth ...
I've Googled and Pinterested so many chess sets I'm seeing things ... lol.
I think I'm going to make Rosewood and Beech top, small table with two drawers and turned legs ... but still not 100% convinced.
Anyone with a handmade chess set? I've got an itch that I need to scratch ... been threatening to build one for 22 years now ...
Guess it's time
Jis, just as I think I'm over the 'restoration' wave, I get another three dining room sets to do. Eish. Two is quick - light sanding and refinish, the other one is a complete varnish strip with color change - 8 seater Oregon set with buffet. I'm overquoting on this one though, I reckon there's going to be a surprise or two in the works ...
Actually, I may have a line on some, erm, rather large yellow planks ... think they measured around 200mm X 200mm ... I'll go visit tomorrow. But, I'd personally go for something that contrasts with the yellowwood, like Blackwood, or stinkwood. Would prefer Imbuia, but yah well no fine I'm not going down that road.
Berario (Fairland) - it arrived from Hillcrest KZN last weekend.
It looks pretty flat ... maybe give it a nice surfacing both sides, keep the 'live' edge intact, and make up either Blackwood or steel legs for it ...
I've been given this nice piece of yellow wood by the inlaws (so I can't sell it lol) : 600 x 2100 and 60 thick. Picture shows the back of it, not the nice side.
Who can assist to turn this into a coffee table or provide suggestions of any other original ideas.
Feel free to PM me with quote(s)
Oooh that's a nice plank. Where are you based?
Sorry for the wait on the mallets guys, hopefully everyone got theirs? If not, please give me shout / call. Hopefully I'll be back on my feet tomorrow and back to the workshop as well.
RAW Linseed oil (it takes longer to dry than BLO, and creates a better coat) Otherwise Woodoc 30 or 35 (if you want to darken the wood a bit) - it's polywax, so a mixture of polyurethane and wax, essentially, and gives 'the same' effect as BLO and turps.
First choice, RLO, repeat in 3 months, then repeat every 6 months.
You should try danish oil..... then you will see shine...
Do you know Furnigloss? I've used it a couple of times, but not sure what's in it. Buffs up to a brilliant shine.
If you make some mallets for us then we will. But i'll take one coated in oil please. The varnish would be like taking a knife to a gun fight..............
See the shine on Armpies' Mallets? That from BUFFING, no varnish, no oil ... just a tiny amount of wax
