Ok, so a couple of peeps walked the route yesterday. I tracked on GPS. In the attached image, teh green denotes new loops, the blue the current route. In red, there's two spots that we either need a bridge or a LOT of shovelwork. Preliminary new loops added in Google Earth overlay

Came over for a look-see after not knowing whether my ducks would be in a row for the race itself on Saturday morning - disappointed in the turnout, the price of grindage (R30 for a frankfurter on a roll - really?) but mostly disappointed that I did not enter - the route looked really lekker.

Ok, an update! The guys managing the track's interest has been peaked, now we need some action. They would like us to present a map with possible trails marked at a meeting next week ... so who's up for a recce with a GPS on Sunday? Will involve more footwork than MTB work. Show of hands please, then we can set a time - I'm open in the afternoon.

Pretoria Moot - Queenswood to be axact. It's just off Stead avenue, about a K north of Soutpansberg Road.

I was there yesterday gotta love power outages at the office I took a walk along most of the track (of course after riding it, and before riding it again) and there's some great potential there. David Boschoff from Groenkloof is 'tasked' with creating and maintaining it, but no-one's been there in months. I'm trying to get hold of him, but hurgnnnghhh. Will probably have to go knock on his door

Has anyone actually been able to CONFIRM that a jacking took place?

Entering from the East, there's a NICE singletrack running all the way to the R21. The Zebra's and Gnu has created a variety of off-shoots to this track, if one were predisposed to a 'bit' of work it can turn out awesome. The prob at the moment is that, as it's now, it's overgrown in places, unclear in a lot of places, and is going to become a rainwater runof in quite a few places as well. So, maintenance would be to cut some grass, widen some areas, and do some outsloping at others (along with a bench cut or two) Longer term there's a TON of animal trails that can be made MTB friendly(ier) The trail is supposed to be maintained by Thinus from Groenkloof, but that's not happening I'm busy chatting to them to get permission to do their work for them lol.

Did a couple of sections of K-Kop again yesterday, man it's fun (and free lol) Parts of the track needs some attention though - who would be interested in forming a work party?

1.74m, 84 kg's, been compared to a brick outhouse before. Busy losing weight, for my frame size should be around 76-78kg's.

Got one on Friday from Hotspot cycles for R3700 - but that's the absolute lowest I've seen it.

Was there yesterday, did the ride along the Botha ave fence. The whole fence is secure (I've done my fair share of anti-poaching in a previous age) Also took a gander at the R21 side, but did not do the whole line. There's one or two suspect spots there - no breach, but obvious activity. Was reported at the gate, the guys seemed grateful. Also did a run along the George Storrar side of Klapperkop's fence, three BIG holes in there, big enough to get a bike through. How about we (meaning someone else please look into it) set up a 'fence patrol' form that you can get at the gate, then fill in details as you see it, with times etc. Drop off at gate and they can use as needed. If you fill in 10 forms, you get a noddy badge (or discount ) and if you fill in 1000 you get a season ticket

I'll go and have a chat on Sunday as well, see if anyone knows anything.

Just received the last chunk of SARS money, and promptly spent it on a Gopro Hotspot cycles reckon they're getting t wifi bacpac in early next week, it will be a great pairing with my galaxy tab.

LOL. If they do, I've got a spoon to sort them out Voluntary fence patrols, with a report back to someone? I ride Klapperkop's MTB track regularly, can easily convert a ride a week to a fence patrol? Could be an easy one to do at Groenkloof as well?

Last question - will CSA sell day licences on the day or should we schlep beforehand?

I'll be up for a dawn border patrol or two every week. Sure my boss would understand the need and give me time off Did not know Groenies had HR's?
