  1. I've been hovering around 72kg from Monday to Wednesday this week, down to 71.3kg this morning (even after having popcorn and some pasta for dinner) I weigh myself every morning, but only pay attention to the general trend.
  2. It can also be from dehydration due to exercise/not drinking enough... The brutal build day at Tokai might have contributed to the water retention
  3. Thanks guys! I will look into these options, hopefully someone can get some use out of the stuff I no longer need
  4. I'm moving at the end of the month and am using the oppurtunity to purge some items in my flat. I found a charity to donate all my old clothes and other goodies to, but is there a place in Joburg that would like to receive old cycling kit? I would love to have it go to an organisation who empowers underprivileged riders...
  5. It always confused me how I would gain weight on the days I did maximum effort on the bike... Maybe a refeed and a day or two off the bike and drinking lots of water is all that is needed for the "whoosh effect" - allows the body to get rid of some of the cortisol and the water retention...
  6. This is what I noticed while I was training for Sani2c (I was also weighing myself every day): I would do long(ish) rides every Saturday and Sunday. I expected that I would weigh less on Monday morning, due to excess calories burnt, but most of the time I was up by about 1-2kg on Monday, but would see a biggish drop of 1.5 - 2.5kg by Tue/Wed. I spoke to my nutritionist about it. She explained that during longer rides, your body dehydrates, no matter how much fluid you drink while on the ride. So the body starts holding on to all the water it can, bringing up your weight by water retention. As you rehydrate, your body will then get rid of the excess water and you see a bigger drop in weight after a few days.
  7. I definitely feel less like cheating the more I exercise. I think it's a physical reminder that I am trying to be healthier for a reason. Once I get off the bike (or out the gym) I already feel good, why ruin that feeling by having rubbish food...
  8. I wasn't part of the original thread, but I need some accountability End of Jan - 80.2, now 71.5
  9. I need to get back on track... I got to the point of saying "something needs to change" by end of last year when I hit 80kg. I started seeing a nutritionist at the end of January with the aim of dropping 5kg by Sani2c. I also began training under 2 world-class coaches, doing olympic weightlifting and powerlifting, plus I was on the bike most weekends, both Saturdays and Sundays. Sani2c arrived, and I surpassed my goal by losing about 8kg. By end of May I was sitting a hair's breadth under 70kg, with my body fat % down from 37% to 24%. Then it all started going pear-shaped (literally)... A 2 week trip to the UK, a lack of motivation ever since then and not being on the bike since Sani has seen a 2kg increase on the scales. Granted, it's not much, but aim is now to get back into it and see goal weight of around 67-68kg, with a body fat % of approx. 20-22%... So... I need to start cleaning up my eating again... There have been way too many "treats" that have snuck in on almost a daily basis, and it's showing, both on the waistline, my moods, and energy levels. I definitely felt better when I was eating less crap. Luckily I've still been consistently going to the gym 3-4 times a week, it's just the cold weather which has made getting back on the bike a lot more difficult. Maybe it's time to enter another challenging event that will force me to get back into training
  10. It is... Luckily I fly to the UK for 2 weeks on Friday, so it can get out of my system while I am bicycleless
  11. Started a head cold on the way down to Sani2c with a blocked sinuses and scratchy throat. Then developed a cough in time for the last day. Sinuses have cleared up, but the cough is still lingering, which is keeping me off the bike. At least the coaches at my gym are happy to see me a lot more than usual...
  12. I have a Karbona road bike, the Zodiac. Had it for close to 3 years now, and still rides like a dream. I hated the carbon plank that some people call a saddle, but my better half loves it, so it's been on his road bike.

    Sani2c 2016

Is there anyone who can give 2 riders plus bikes a lift from Pietermaritzburg to Joburg tomorrow? Car broke down during the shuttle run to Scottburgh, so it's in Underberg and not drivable, with both of us needing to be in the office on Monday...
  14. Started feeling sick on Friday - blocked sinuses, sore throat. Today - lungs are starting to burn a bit. I think the cough will manifest in the next day or so My better half finished the build on my new bike on Friday night, so decided to do a quick 8km spin on her - what a beauty. I've been trying to rest for the remainder of the weekend - tough when there is a new steed in the stable and Sani2c is soooo close that I feel the need to do some last minute training.
  15. old MTB - 2008 Lapierre Zesty 914, frame was built for 26" wheels, but 650B fit, so we upgraded new MTB - 2015 Pyga oneten29 - done a total of 8.5km on her (damn the cold that caught me on Friday meaning I was off recovering this weekend) road bike
  16. Last year the GPS files were sent out the week before the Sani2c, so you might have to have a bit more patience.
  17. I am working with a lady in Hurlingham who also works with performance athletes. She's not a registered dietician or nutritionist, but she has experience of working with athletes. Currently our focus is mainly on losing weight and gaining strength, but also to get my nutrition right during the week and on rides (no more store bought energy bars for me... ). Let me know if you want me to pass on her details...
  18. There will be unofficial Club100 rides. They normally start their road rides at Luca's restaurant in Rivonia Crossing every Sunday at 6:30. There will be other rides as well, but I'm not sure where and when.
  19. Damn! We're planning a weekend away this weekend, I would have been keen to join. I'll be home alone all December when the SO heads to England, so any ladies ever up for road or MTB ride, just shout. It's always more fun with some company...
  20. I received an entry, but we decided against riding it as we're spending enough money to do Sani2c next year. If anyone wants me to keep it for substitution for them, let me know, otherwise I'll let it go back in the pot
  21. I would make you my doctor in a heartbeat if you were Joburg based... I hate getting prescribed antibiotics for any minor illness. I often don't even fill in those scripts...
  22. I went to Cyclefit, and they recommended a specific saddle as I was quite flexible in the hips. They also adjusted my cleats (first thing they did was take them off the shoes), and then adjusted the tension in my pedals to prevent my knee from moving sideways while pedaling. Not sure if they do the KEO Fit System, but Cyclefit was definitely money well worth spent. Sorted out my knee, neck and shoulder pain quickly.
  23. I did their standard set-up, which now goes for R695
  24. I find the set-up at the bike shop to sometimes be a bit slap-dash. I also went to Cyclefit, great service, great people and nice to get a proper cleat set-up done too. Well worth it, in my opinion...
