  1. Had shoulder issues a while back. Started off with not being able to move the arm when I would wake up, then ended up lasting for 2 days. Eventually turned out to be a calcium build up in the joint.

One surgeon wanted to go in and grind it out, went to Shoulder institute in Stellenbosch - they said it was breaking down already and they just flushed it with some saline solution. Hasn't been back again.

Apparently it is quite common in women.

  2. I need to get a new derailleur hanger for my Ibis (plus a spare), anyone know offhand of shop in Cape Town that might have. Going to do some calling tomorrow but figure someone might know of a place that might have a good chance of having one?

  3. I am looking to find some light weight tubes for emergencies.

A good few years back I was able to buy a nice light and compact (when folded) spez tube. Now when I go into the local shops and ask fir a lightweight 26" tube all I get is a confused look.

Anyone know if these still exist?

  4. Yep, definitely looks like a cosmetic coating (probably to change the branding) - the inners are 100s - thought it might the snakeskin peeling but I have no idea how the tyre itself is put together.

  5. Just washed the bike and it looks like a section if the sidewall is peeling (not sure if it is from the sidewall scraping something) - the thing is there appears to be other Schwalbe branding underneath?

    Anyone else seen this before?

  6. Because the gears are skipping at random and only when suspension is in motion it is the gear housing setup.

Bent hangers, chainlinks, etc will result in a constant skipping irrespective of whether you riding on the road or mountain.

  7. I think I found the problem, it's not the chain, the wheel, bent hanger, rear derailleur or the cassette, but the frame. I have a dual susp that can lock the rear shock and I can lock my frame.

When I lock my frame, the problem seems to sort itself out. I now told my lbs I want it repaired under warranty (bike is less than 5 months old) or I want a new bike, lets see what the outcome will be.

The problem is the gear cable housing lengths are probably a bit too long/short and is kinking when the bike goes through it's suspension travel. Check the lengths of housing especially where it connects the front triangle to the rear. Good way is to remove air from the rear shock and then check that the cable does not pull when your suspension goes through it's travel - also ensure the inner cable still move freely.

  8. IT is the fork... I havent put it in a vice, but i'v taken it off the bike, put the steerer on a cloth on the floor and flexed it... The "creak" is either coming from the steerer/crown juction or stanction/crown or down inside?? its one year old, came on new Giant XTC 29er last year...

If you take the fork off the bike and grip the lowers between your feet and then grip the crown in the center by the steerer and twist it clockwise/anticlockwise you should be able to hear if it is coming from the stanchions/crown join.
