  1. I use Fox Ranger shorts. Not too baggie and waist has adjustment, so you can tweek for comfort. I have 3 pairs, it's all I use to mountain bike in. Perfect for long ride and sort rides with my kids.
  2. At 6 foot 3" I have the same issues. All the bikes I ride are XL. Inseam and arm length play a part in frame sizing. I have a 91cm inseam which is slightly out of normal proportions (long legs and arms, shorter torso), so I prefer 61cm Center to Center (traditional measurements, or XL). Bikes that size are pretty difficult to find. But maybe something like this is what you are after. Not sure of your budget, but this frame is pretty good. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/399850/scott-expert-61cm-bm4082-make-us-an-offer Or go classic steel and get this https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/400145/collectors-item-peugeot-635
  3. Out of those 2 options I would go with the Cannondale, but that's personal preference. Both are good bikes. Giant has probably the best warranty and back up in SA, but the Propel is an extremely rigid Aero frame. So comfort wont be as good as you first 2 options. The Giant TCR would be a better option IMO For what you want the bike for why not look for a Cannondale CAAD 12 Aluminium frame, but certainly the best in its segment and as good if not better than most carbon frames. Buying used will always have its risks and frame warranty normally doesn't apply to the second owner. There are a lot of good value for money bikes around, maybe don't limit yourself to just 1 or 2 brands. In saying that, try and buy something with good backup in SA. Giant, Silverback, Merida, Trek, Brands like that.
  4. Thats correct, I actually forgot about that, thanks for reminding me. I did "loosely" enquire about a bike about a year ago...Rand/Pound conversion made my eyes water.
  5. If money was no object, I would spend my money with a Saffa in the UK, Matthew Sowter (Saffron Frameworks) This is the bike he built for Dan Craven
  6. Lovely. Very close to what mine will be once done, deltas and all. Just need that jersey.
  7. All that Shimano, must be killing you
  8. I have the same issue with grass against my legs when mountain biking. I also get hey-fever and take Loratadine daily. After a ride I take an extra one if the rash is bad. Try some kind of antihistamine and see what works for you.
  9. Solid options, can't really disagree with any of them. Note on Mazda, they have standard 3 year unlimited km service plan extendable to 5 years. So if you doing milage this is nice.
  10. VW quality and class is in a league all on its own, but agree on those tsi motors. Wouldn't touch with a barge pole. My brother is in the motor industry and those motors have such a bad reputation. Can't beat Hyundai for value and warrantee but I also like the Suzuki. My mother in law has the Suzuki SX4 2.0l petrol and winds the heck out of it... Goes for normal service and that's it. Agree on wheels size, be careful not to get caught out with an odd size. Why not look for a 1 year old Mazda CX5,bigger car and that motor is superb.
  11. Try Vans shoes, they have nice flat soles and good grip. My kids and just about all the kids who race bmx run Vans shoes. My kids bikes have Shimano Saint pedals and they have great grip with Vans and the sole lasts. I get the shoes from Tekkkie Town
  12. Inseam length will be a big deciding factor. I am 1.86mts tall with a 91cm Inseam and I ride XL mountain bikes and nothing under 60cm Road bike frames. In fact 61-62cm road frames are more comfortable for me. I would say ride the bike and see how it feels, but almost certain its going to be too small IMO.
  13. I'm 1.96 and 106kg at the moment and am riding a 2019 Giant Anthem XL. I think they have solved that seat post cracking issue. 1 main reason I will stay with Giant is because of their warrantee, best in the SA industry IMO. One thing that may help is a zero offset seatpost, will put a bit less leverage on the post and frame. Giant have a 27.2 post diameter so getting a dropper isn't easy, you may have to consider a Giant dropper made for their frames.
  14. My first go to is the seat post. Aluminum against carbon or aluminum is never ideal. Mark height before removing, clean nicely and apply copperslip. If you have a carbon seatpost then use some carbon compound. If that doesn't help then BB is the next thing to check. If you have press fit BB then good chance it's that. Do it yourself or get a friend to help you, process of elimination is the name of the game here. By doing it yourself you will know for sure what's been checked and what hasn't.
  15. Stunning. That Dura Ace headset must be killing you bud ????
  16. Torn my left knee anteria miniscus right off, have it stapled back. 6 weeks on crutches and 6 weeks pysio, 3 times a week. Specialist said I would be able to cycle but never run again. This happened about 15 years ago. Ran my first half marathon 3 years ago and was 100%. I put it all down to following the correct rehab. So as said above, get a good physio and follow what they say 100%.
  17. You are riding the "Old" geometry frame so a longer stem will be a normal set up for that bike. I've never liked flat bars and have always changed to a 20mm riser bar. Its a little more forgiving and less twitchy I find. Obviously personal preference but maybe worth a try. Go back to your normal 90mm stem and try a riser bar. I ride a 2019 Anthem XL (I am 1.87m) and run a 60mm stem with a 20mm riser bar and am very happy, but the 2019 frame has the new geometry, unlike yours.
  18. Not much power in those skinny legs lol. Was a hill climb TT and that section of road was bumpy, thats all
  19. Remember that so well. Accident was just after the turn on the way back. A few guys on carbon Alan's snapped frames in half, your brother and I watched it all go down. Yes I recall you have your bike to Michael Neft.
  20. Geez Don that's going back some hey. Cool you still have the pictures.
  21. '92 was in howick area. I was too old to ride by that stage so mashalled and my younger brother road that year. I rode' 91 in Gariep dam(new name) Colesburg area. Good memories for sure, super aggressive and hard racing.
  22. Me racing at Midmar dam for Natal team selection for Interprovs and Eric van Enter 1991. I still have the Hansom with the original 105 that I restored a while back (second image)
  23. I've had bikes done by Paz and 2 done by AH Designs (Andy Harris) and all i can say is Andy is way ahead in terms of detail and quality.
  24. A few more images before the build and with old wheels before I had the new ones built. The top tube had kinks in it from an accident the previous owner obviously had. I sent the frame down to Dave Mercer who replaced the top tube and made sure the frame was aligned. He did an amazing job. Then sent in for paint with Andy Harris (AH Designs) in Pinetown, he does some quality work. Colour scheme was inspired by the Wilier Triestina. Can't seem to get the last 2 images to rotate.
