It was a goodie! After losing his ride to Crutchlow, I thought Heyden was trying to impress a Moto-X sponsor http://pix.crash.net/motorsport/710/PA1391782.jpg
  3. TUESDAY JUN 04, 2013 Gautengers urged to use bikes to ease congestion Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi has appealed to local residents to consider riding bicycles and motorbikes to work to prevent congestion on the roads. He based his appeal on the ever growing population figures of Gauteng, saying Census 2011 reported that the province has 12.2 million inhabitants, and later revised the figure to 12.5 million. He said the figures showed that the majority of people who own cars were middle class, who add to the congestion because of their love of using private cars. "In getting Gauteng on the move, we should in our planning take into account the results of the 2011 Census," Vadi said. A few weeks ago, Stats SA reported that Gauteng was the largest province by population, with 12.5 million residents. Preliminary research by the 25-year Integrated Transport Master Plan team suggests that in 25 years' time, Gauteng's population will have risen to 18.6 million, with an economically active population of 8.5 million. However, Gauteng's population density is low compared to that of Los Angeles, a city with a similar population size. While LA's population density is at 6 999 people per square mile, Gauteng is at only 675, Vadi said. He said more residential areas needed to be built along Gauteng's roads, saying "this reality should be addressed through transit-led growth. This will require transport planning to be synchronised with spatial planning to ensure greater densification". "The densification of urban space will yield benefits for access to a range of transport and other government services. Densification will help considerably to reduce the cost of public transport, minimise harmful effects on carbon emissions on the environment, and make it easier and cheaper to provide other government services such as water, electricity and broadband," Vadi said. He also announced that there was a possibility for the establishment of another Gautrain station in Modderfontein, after a property developer started building upmarket houses and townhouses. Vadi excitedly announced that the new station would be fully funded by the property developer. He said preparations to implement an effective public transport system were at an advanced stage. "Infrastructure projects within the transport branch have been allocated R136 million. This money will go towards infrastructure. "The department is to construct five intermodal facilities at the Germiston, Roodepoort, Vereeniging, Leratong and Pienaarspoort railway stations," Vadi added. 5. http://www.gizmag.com/paul-components-gopro-stem-mount/27560/ By Ben Coxworth May 17, 2013 http://images.gizmag.com/hero/stemcapmount.jpg Paul Components is now making a GoPro HERO camera mount that replaces the handlebar stem cap on a mountain bikeImage Gallery (7 images) GoPro HERO actioncams are proving to be pretty popular with mountain bikers, although not everyone wants to wear one of the cameras on their helmet or chest. Riders can always mount it on their handlebars, although now Paul Components is offering an alternative – a GoPro mount that replaces the handlebar stem cap. http://images.gizmag.com/gallery_tn/stemcapmount-0.jpg http://images.gizmag.com/gallery_tn/stemcapmount-1.jpg http://images.gizmag.com/gallery_tn/stemcapmount-2.jpg http://images.gizmag.com/gallery_tn/stemcapmount-3.jpg View all First of all, why wouldn’t you want to mount your camera on your handlebars? For one thing, you might already have things like a light, a bell or a computer taking up space on there. Additionally, be it ever-so-slightly, the camera has to be mounted a little off-center to allow for the stem clamp. Finally, it’s always nice to be able to get the bars in the bottom of the shot – it helps gives viewers a sense of perspective, putting them “in the action” more. The 24-gram mount is made from solid 6061 aluminum (anodized black or silver), and replaces the top cap of a 1 1/8-inch threadless stem. It works with all three generations of HERO cameras, which can be tilted up or down as they’re being tightened into place on the mount. http://images.gizmag.com/inline/stemcapmount-6.jpg Should you like the idea of putting the stem cap to use, but you’re not into videography, Paul also makes a stem cap light mount (see above) ... you can also always replace your stem cap with a clock.

The tweet was made by a young woman and ended with the comment "#bloody cyclists". It said: "Definitely knocked a cyclist off earlier - I have right of way he doesn't even pay road tax." Norfolk police were alerted to the collision via the social network and used Twitter to ask the woman to contact them. "We have had tweets ref an RTC with a bike," the force said. "We suggest you report it at a police station ASAP if not done already and then dm us." The original tweet prompted incredulity on the website as other users mocked the person who posted it for apparently admitting a crime. It is no longer visible on Twitter and the user's profile has also been deleted, but the cyclist who is being linked to the crash has spoken out. Toby Hockley, 29, a member of the Iceni Velo cycling club from Norwich, had been taking part in the 100-mile Boudicca Sportive ride on Sunday. He said he was struck by a car and thrown into a hedge when a car "came tearing around the blind corner" close to the end of the route. "She came on to my side of the road. I took the wing mirror off and I went flying off my bike into a hedge," he told BBC Norfolk. "She hit me hard, really hard. I am lucky to be alive but I managed to get out of the hedge and stand up. "The car was nowhere to be seen. She hit me and she was gone. All I know is that it was a blonde girl driving." Mr Hockley said he had initially planned to keep the collision quiet to avoid worrying his girlfriend but contacted police after being told about the tweet. The cyclist said he had a bruised shin and sore elbow but had avoided major injury. A spokesman for Norfolk police said: "Further to recent social media postings on a road traffic collision involving a cyclist on Sunday 19 May in the Norwich area, Norfolk Constabulary can confirm that we have had initial contact with both parties involved and enquiries continue." Road tax does not actually exist in the UK and roads are funded from general taxation. It is commonly confused with Vehicle Excise Duty, which is a car tax paid on vehicles as a levy on emissions.

  14. He seems to be one of the doomsday prophets, one of those "it's not good enough" types. He'll soon be lobbying for CM to employ BEE guidelines on it's rides & getting himself lost in the past and stressed out about stuff (because he wants to suffer for his art and he can prove he knows how to feel as long as it's angst or discontent.) All the while hundreds/thousands(?) of riders, of all demographics, in all major centres will be having an absolute blast, enjoying the ride, the company and just like Batman, the night.
  15. That's horrific to hear. I only have the info I was given by the TB board.
  16. Ali from CycleLab has confirmed that two riders were hit by a drunk driver this morning in the Cradle One has a broken pelvis and the other sustained a broken neck. Wishing the guys a speedy recovery and lots of strength to them & their loved ones.
