  1. Just for what its worth.... Evanscycles has the MK II protect 2.4 for +/- R542 and the X-king Pro 2.4 for R507, thats the cheapest i could find. Didnt check a chance to check the Maxxis range yet.
  2. Yeah didnt wanna get too technical i saw on the Maxxis website the various compunds and stuff. with increase in technology on the tyre, so does the price increase. (i did notice there Tpi description did not make sense to me at all, but ya whateva..)
  3. exactly my thoughts... gotta be specific to Western Cape terrain and aggregate. will def. Look out for the UST version
  4. DH F&R - i was on their website and couldn't find the details, so didnt want to assume. Rather ask the Pro's on the Hub. i see they come in EXO - seems pretty much similar to conti's ProTection stuff, if not better. I never used either before.. currently running the stock stuff "Bontrager jones XR", so i guess anything will be better than my current stuff.
  5. Due to the high continental prices are the Maxxis minion DHF and DHR downhill specific tyres? how do they compare to the Conti MK II protection, anyone tried comparing before?
  6. +1 deviate like.... will we maybe be getting a schedule or register of route descriptions in advance? something that states elevation gain/loss; lliason, SS and shuttle points etc. probably wishful thinking i suppose...
  7. that sounds nice... its like erhhmmm whats that trail called which ends where the new mamba starts? cobra or something. thats kindv like the terrain here in the Overberg region, sharp rocks, very rugged and hard to remain seated. so when and where are the pro's training on saturday morning?
  8. Now i'm getting super excited! Capricorn what you think, spend more time at Gspot or Tokai?
  9. Okay cool, whats to expect? from what i understand everyone will be riding blind (i.e cannot ride there in advance).. Should i be training? at gspot... HAHA!! will there be any climbing involved, or is it more like DH2, Vasbyt, Mamba stuff out at tokai?
  10. Yoh!! i'm seriously thinking of doing this with my trek 130mm of travel bike... haha!! will be a first.
  11. my future wheelset in thinking of..... 1. superstar switch evo hubs 2. Conti MK II protection (2.4) front, and X-King protection (2.4) rear 3. Spank oozy Evo, mainly cz they have it in blue (but maybe imna go with the subrosa) but still dreaming....
  12. OK, i was thinking of the 2.4 MK II pro front (basically bcz its a whole 300g lighter than the Queens, and i do prefer to cycle uphill to the start of my trail descent more often than not) and X-king Pro because of its high speed low rolling resistance reviews... (not sure of size yet, leanin towards 2.4... Would go X-king 2.2 but apparently they look skinny??? )
  13. Nope, i was referring to the overall Thread Per Inch. yes the cheaper version has only 3ply/84Tpi, (which my head says to me has weaker sidewall protection than the Pro version which has 3ply/240tpi. But your explanation of TPI is crystal clear!! thanks!!
  14. So TPI = the more thread, the better resistance to sidewall puncture (i assume your referring to snake bites or cuts from rocks) and more stiffer? or more flexible. the ProTek has 4ply/240Tpi. Will i get the same grip outv the cheaper Non-protek version? (its only got 84Tpi though) the protek going for R505 at evans and standard 1 is R272 Oh... How do the MK II Pro compare to WTB wolverines or the Bronson? most forums says the MK II is the perfect all rounder?
  15. Hi all (Newbie here so please don't bite..) been following this thread to get some ideas for an upgrade, i've been checking out some online shops as well. Who's got the best price for MTB tyres? is there a big difference between the 2.4 Conti MK II Pro (Protection and Blackckilli) and the one that has only the blackchilli, or does it just boil down to the TPI.? regards T
  16. So im considering buying something from a hubber i've checked "previous hubber posts" etc, pm him instead of e-mail and phone calls. but would it be stupid to trust that the fellow hubber will send the product(s) advertised once i pay? i am too far away to view the item, but the guy seems legit... YohhH! in todays day and age, i just dont know. don't wanna get bitten.
  17. +1 Similar to waterbound MacAdam used on the older roads found in the Cape.
  18. HaHa! as the saying goes "if i could...." .Currently im residing in Bredasdorp and only see the likes of CT every 2nd weekend or so. I would have to be on my best behaviour with the wifey (currently im in the dog box) in order to partake in both events. Plus, been racking up the km on my vehicle so... maybe doing both is not really in my best interest. I've just been intrigued by the enduro scene, and cannot wait till we have loooonnnggg trails and events that caters. with concerns to Eselfontein, my head just keeps saying to me 65km of ENDURO!! lol.
  19. Nastly climbs followed by rewarding trail descents is my idea of MTB. the one should not out weigh the other, but if any should then it should be the descent . similarly "Technical" is all part of it IMHO. i know i go to the mountain to climb rocky sections, and descend upon tricky turns, berms and corner... that what gets my Rev counter going... the last two event i competed in was Spur Lourensford - just climbing! and no fun on the single track due to crowding and bunching. Lebanon MTB - was a blast!!! up and down 50/50 split, descent was also mostly trails. K, im definitely considering partaking in this event as opposed to the Dirtopia Enduro at Simonsberg...
  20. Hi All Never did this event before, very curious though!... so if i did the event i would be doing it "blind". Please could you answer my questions below and help me make up my mind. Although the profile looks like a climb from start 0.0km all the way to roughly the 36.7km mark, i've read about some good single tracks at eselfontein. Are these single tracks mostly ascending trails or descending?would you say the entire route is like... 50% climbing and the 50% descentare the descents on trails or mostly jeep tracki liked the comment above about this event could be ENDURO, please elaborate... Dirtopia hosts an ENDURO event on the 24th Nov 2013 which i was planning to do, also never did this before... but i love singletrack and not lazy to climb so...
