  1. The issue was the statement that he was looking at a full sus because he was scammed by a bike shop because it was rusting. Hence the rabbit hole this thread has gone down.
  2. I am jumping in on this stage having not read the whole thread yet. But DAMN rusting... That will happen in one week if exposed to the elements and not lubing and maintaining the bike. If I was my bike and don't lube it it shows rust within a few days. I think the issue is more ignorance than anything else. Not being scammed. All bikes no matter where you buy them have the same components. The shop is not the issue the owner is. Also if you are going dual suspension and these are your issues be afraid, be very afraid as you are going to have way more issues and way more costly issues. To anyone selling the OP a bike please ensure you include a bike maintenance course and get the OP to sign a waiver or you are going to be in deep dodo.
  3. In my case it is the rider that has gone soft 😉 last year was a way "soft year for me"
  4. All tires are tubeless ready and even rims that say they are not...... are with a bit of TLC. I have not yet found an MTB tire or rim that cannot be made tubeless. To be honest some Racing Ralph tires that are Tubeless need a lot of work to make them seal.
  5. Well I did not load the GT on Strava initially, the Crackendal and the Momson are fully recorded. I should not say this but the Momson has a Fox Factory fork that has never been services and these days I am too afraid to touch it as I believe if I open it it will die. No station ware seen yet. The IDT does not record milage so who knows. Edit, the Crackendal was 2nd hand when I got it so who knows what it has really done.
  6. Why would you want the Bitey feel on a back brake? On the back less is more. It is up front that you need the business. OK note Italics/Comic Sans But really are back brakes that important?
  7. Note, I was just commenting on how vehemently they opposed allowing drop bars a few years ago.
  8. You could do it on a road bike with wide tires, or Gravel or MTB or Eversions of them; each have their benefits and drawbacks. All depends on what you feel like riding. There are no challenges on the course any more excepts some corrugations and some loose stones.
  9. That is going to be such a memorable trip. Damn, if I could I would have loved to join you for a bit. But I am a bit of a blob at the moment and these days are a bit of work. Note: Botrivier - Napier is a biiiig one. Expect to be fighting the South Easter headwind all the way. Typically it is less windy in the AM and tends to blow a gail in the afternoon. But if it is not blowing, it will be awesome. Napier - Breede - Witsand and Witsand - Stilbaai - Mossel Bay is also into a headwind most of the afternoon, but it gets better the further SW you go and the winds tend to be more from the SW. Thereafter you are running with the wind at your back.................... well so they say. I always think there is a headwind haha. Have a blast and keep us posted.
  10. Is CWC going to be rebranded as Cycle Lab (well it is on paper already)? So then there will be 2 x Cycle Labs in Cape Town Northen Suburbs?
  11. So now it is a gravel bike race, my how things have changed from gravel bikes being banned.
  12. https://www.gov.za/faq/justice-and-crime-prevention/what-bail-and-how-does-it-work Different factors are considered when deciding on the amount of bail. Seriousness of the offence is an important factor together with what the interests of justice permit. Factors such as the likelihood of additional offences being committed once out on bail, the flight risk, opportunity to intimidate witnesses and jeopardizing the trial will all be considered. The amount is usually determined by the magistrate’s discretion.
  13. Bail is not set based on the severity, but rather the flight risk.
  14. You can download the route file and load it on your Garmin or other GPS. Not sure about your mobile.
  15. But this year is social for Chris. He rode up to the start from Cape Town with 2 mates in 4 days. So the legs should be warm now.... Not.
  16. He indicated he will this year. Last year was tight.
  17. SIZE 2.63??? Is there even such a size? 2.2/2.25/ if you are lucky 2.35 on XC bikes. anything more than that then NO. But I am old school so what do I know.
  18. Shameless Punt for gemmerbal. https://www.givengain.com/campaign/munga4mutts or https://capespca.co.za/get-involved/team-spca/munga4mutts/
  19. I see there are a few people riding to the start these days from Cape Town and the number seems to be growing. I think one or two contenders are also riding the up leg again this year.
  20. Heads Up, The Munga is rolling around again and Tienie (gemmerbal) is riding to raise funds for the SPCA. If anyone has a few spare ZAR's lying around please try to assist a good cause. https://capespca.co.za/get-involved/team-spca/munga4mutts/ We are going into the silly season and the SPCA are going to looking after forgotten/abandoned pets while the owners go on holiday. So they are going to need all the support they can get. Also see the recent podcast here.https://www.facebook.com/elton.davids/videos/1051879046011176/?mibextid=YxdKMJ
  21. Never seen the need for more than 2 x 750ml for most events. 2 x 750ml should do 100km with no issues even in 30+deg. But to each their own. When I did Looong unsupported rides I just added a 3rd bottle cage and that did the job through the karoo in summer.
  22. Strange, I think this is a bit of a strange way to look at a bike. What the hell does the year matter? I did the 361 this year and got 830km out of a brand new drive train, What good is the year model now? You are talking about the frame year model. Erm this is the thing that gets the least wear and tear. I would be more interested in the state of the drive train and the fork and shock. To be honest a bike is the sum of its parts. The age of the frame is of no consequence at all. Donder the mind boggels....
  23. I saw that, but how is that any different? Hopefully the foolish rich will also stop paying these stupid prices and pricing will come back to where it should be. But as long as enough people are prepared to pay stupid prices it will continue. Any way. I have got to sort out two of my staff that have just been held to ransom. At least the protesters don't hold live as very valuable. they managed to get away by paying R3k
  24. Donder...... at R 220k I am way out of ever getting a new bike. Would anyone ever ride that offroad or in the mud as they were originally meant to be ridden.? I think not so much....
