  1. I beg to differ. I was 85kg and now I am 115kg. Mu stock standard Momsen with ZTR Crest is still doing excellent service. However the rear rim is taking a bit of strain. They do have and 85kg weight limit you know. So all said and done an entry level bike with standard components will be just fine for the OP's intended application. The entry level bikes have more robust components in any case. Well that is just my 10Cents.
  2. Do you really need that much water on a 50km/1000m ride? Yes it is hot and humid, but still. If you really need more water attach a bottle cage to the underside of the downtube with tape or tie downs. That will give you the amount of water you need. Put insulation tape on the frame where you are going to be attaching the bottle cage and then lock it in with your choice of fastening material. I have used insulation tape to good effect on multi day rides. You don't need to spend big ZARS unless you are one of the image brigades.
  3. That is an Old photo........
  4. Rear brakes should not be use so hard. Lay off the power and you don't have to do anything. Use the front brakes as you are supposed to.
  5. Rgwn you go ride in the Taankwa in summer and you get a porridge wheel.
  6. 361 and TB. Started training last week and need to loose 30KG. Ek gaan maar aftjop.
  7. I agree, the support vehicle should nor be following closely, especially on busy narrow roads. Cyclists single file and accommodating motorists for the win. To be honest, cycling in the Sothern suburbs is a pleasure for me as, yes there is no hard shoulder, but the motorists are most accommodating if you are a considerate cyclist. Support vehicles should be nowhere near the riders on narrow roads. Well that is according to me.
  8. Guys did in the past the even removed the lacquer, hence my question.
  9. And what about the weight implications, or is weight not a thing any more?
  10. Hi Reinet, Condense and our thoughts are with everyone at this difficult time. Did this happen in Atlantis riding in the dunes? If so, he was married to one of my school friends daughters. Small world and shows how connected we all are. We share your pain and wish you all strength.
  11. Unfortunately for people that have done and want to do it for what the race originally represented it is a bit of a minefield to negotiate with the race organizers flip flopping to pander to the masses. Edit: Not really masses but I think you get what I mean.
  12. Morning Hubbers, time is few and Germerbal must be wenting. Please see if you can spare a few sheckels/ZAR to donate to a good cause that he is riding for. What with all the brouhaha about Rottweilers and pit-bulls at the moment and with the festive season closing in. SPCA are going to need all the assistance they can get to look after animals. Here is a link to the Givengain Campaign: https://www.givengain.com/cc/munga4mutts/ Tienie, we will be behind you all the way....... watching the dots from the comfort of our desks.
  13. Yes that does not sound to far off depending on the quality of the switch-gear used. As an example you can get a 60A changeover switch for between 120 ZAR and 800 ZAR and Surge protectors from between 200 and 1k. then the battery fuses also have an extreme range of prices Also note the battery cables that come with the inverter only get to the fuses and then you normally need cable from the fuse to the battery. AND Boy those cables cost a bomb.
  14. Just a thought, if I have been of the bike for a month or two and I start riding again I have the same problem, however loosening the fasteners and looking at how I am pedaling helps. then after about 2 to 300 km of riding everything is back to normal. I also know that my shoes are a bit on the narrow side so that is also a contributing factor.
  15. Still trying to work out what has changed. I have not raced/fun rode this event for a few years now, but I never recall having any issues with the water we started with making it to the finish and there were some sweltering days. Seems like racing has gotten way harder and more water intense.
  16. Hmm, even if he/she went to a bike fitter and they were between sizes the above still applies. The bikes are a size. So you still need to work within the confines of the frame sizes. Old school still works to get to the basics then if you want go to a bike fitter for the detail.
  17. But, But, But,v what about those that pay R 200k for their steeds and need manicured trails to be able to ride and then are the biggest cash cows for the club. Dont come here with you MTB logic.
  18. I am in Brackenfell and will send you information and pricing tomorrow AM.
  19. Fun Fact, Geewiz have been selling on average 100 trolley inverter per day since the beginning of the year. Ellies, the other major supplier have not disclosed, but we believe they have been doing about 30 per day. That is a lot of floor space for Mustek and co to keep stock and lead times are about 90 days so supply and demand is now for sure a huge thing that will drive prices up.
  20. Just note the LiFePo batteries Vs Lead Acid. Lead Acid should be guaranteed for 1000 charge cycles whereas Lead Acid is 1000. Price difference should justify the LiFePo, but only just. But everything depends on the load and how many times they are discharged below 50%. Anyway I have a fleet of 17 Lead Acid installs that are between 1 and 2 years old and they have had no degredation in life as yet. BUT, they are running well within the design spec. Also why spend R 15K Contact me if you are looking for a decent price on these.
  21. Just use a car valve cap over the valve and be done while you wait for the bling.
  22. This is a super cool deal. HOWEVER those crest's have an 85KG weight limit.
  23. Can you get a discount on Discovery life if you leave Vitality and forego the cash back ripoff? It is way easy to get all the vitality points and integration bonuses if you are young, but as you age and have dependents of between 21 and 25 it is basically impossible to stay on diamond if any one of you gave some ailment. It is easy to get to silver and a big push to gold, but diamond is a stretch too far. So the result is I don't care any more about Vitality, just looking for an exit to another life and health cover without loosing too much. Just waiting for my next 5 year payout then I am gone (2 years to go). The sad thing is the we bought into the integration, and only after the 1st year see that what we moved from to go to Discovery was actually better and more cost effective. Sad but true. School fees!!!
