  1. Do you relay believe that if you were caught in 2015 anything will change? You probably just get better at the dosage.
  2. OK you are right in your minds eye. So go forth and fight it. However the majority of people dealing with products that have a churn cycle based in months will never agree with you, especially if a product is upgraded/replaced every few months. Bottom line is companies only do what the market will bear. You still have the option, as many have stated to pat the 4k, get the new device, sell it in the box for 7k, accept that you paid 5k for two years worth of use and move on to another vendor which will probably give you the same life should you be doubly unlucky.
  3. Unfortunately a warranty is a warranty, not a guarantee. With most warranties the labour would be excluded. So they could quite easily tell you that they will replace the part (I.e. the whole inner workings of the device as there are no individual components) and charge you the same fee as they now need to have a clean-room and extra qualified staff etc. Bottom line is nothing lasts forever, and as far as I am concerned they also have a design life. Know this and accept it , then move on.
  4. Hmm, not standing up for Garmin, but when last have you had an issue with an electronic item? (TV, Laptop etc.) The issue is the cost of part replacement and labour is significantly more than what is being offered. I have just had a small issue with my laptop. Please replace keyboard, ram and motherboard. 80% of the cost of a new device. The labour component cannot be discounted these days. Have you ever considered what your cost to company is per hour? The offer of a new replacement device @ 50% is a very fair option to me. Especially considering that it is an out of warranty offer.
  5. So the info re storage % has some merits, but not so much in the cycling world if used once or twice a week. It is primarily a function of the decay over time from a start voltage point. So: To lose the smallest amount of power while in storage, charge your battery to 40%, unplug it and store it in a temperature-controlled location. https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Battery_Power/Lithium_Ion_Batteries#Storage_temperature_and_charge Storage Temperature Charged to 40% – capacity loss after a year Charged to 100% – capacity loss after a year 0 °C 2% 6% 25 °C 4% 20% 40 °C 15% 35% 60 °C 25% 40% 0 degrees centigrade and 40% battery charge loses the least amount of power—just 2%. The reason is that constant temperature is your best friend. Do not store in refrigerator as that is moist and BAD for battery storage. So in our real world for cycling % Charge is not an issue.
  6. What is considered storage? We are trying to ride every night or 2nd night. Is that too long a period?
  7. Also these products are perfect when one is young and healthy. Then later they are not, but then it too late so consider your options wisely. Seems like I am stuck with Discovery for life now.
  8. Disco have also changed a lot over the past two years, especially if you have an over 18 addition on the account. Everyone has to be on Vitality even if they don't want to be. We gave up trying 2021 (my wife and I have an issue or two so we are up a river without a paddle) and now down to silver, we could ave made gold, but the costs and effort were not worth it. There are many more competitive products out there than Disco and Momentum; if you look past the sale pitch from these two. Expensive lesson for me as I have integrated products that are no longer competitive in the market.
  9. The charger on the Avalanch Mte is only a 84W, so a long time it will take. Damn what I would not give to have a 300W charger.
  10. My wife (about 60kg) as done about 650km to date on a mix of Tar, fire-road and one single track (neverender at Jonkers) Impressions so far: 1. Saddle is too soft and apparently not good for the soft bits. We replaced this and tings are now much better. 2. Charging seems to take way longer than indicated, but overnight is good for 70 to 85 km based on assist level. 3. Fork spring is to heavy duty for light weight so not much good on single track (we never expected it to be very good) 4. The max speed seems to stop on a flat road at about 35 kph even when set to 50. I suspect the motor might be out of puff above 35 ish (350W Motor) 5. Think we may need to retention the rear spokes as the seem to ping under max load on a smooth road. All in all it does what it says on the tin as long as the expectation levels are correct. I feel it may bee priced too dear, but it is the cheapest we could find. All said and done, my wife can now ride with me and she enjoys it so a win. Now just to get another battery for longer rides as 85 to 110 km are what we typically do. But they seem to be stupid expensive. Expecting to be between R 6,700 and R 8,500 if you can get.
  11. Try be more gentle with your toys. That thing look quite battered.
  12. Howzit, My wife got one of the above and for what it costs and says on the box it is super value. I will just upgrade the fork to an air fork some time. The issue is where does one get a spare battery at a reasonable cost? It gives a range of between 75 and 85 km but we need to go further so I would like to get a second battery. Where to find? PS so nice to see it does what it says on the box, and having a hub driven motor reduces the group-set ware so win win.
  13. You can ride anything on a gravel bike, just depends on your skill level. On a roadbike
  14. Is this seriously considered as an obstetrical?
  15. How do you guys keep your bikes so pristine and chip free? all my bikes have chips, dings and nicks in the first month and they just keep getting more and more. Stone chips from riding where MTB's should be ridden. Do these bikes ever go proper offroad?
  16. Some freaks of nature also almost podium in masters and are high up in GC on 9 to 12 hrs. Quality over quantity. After all they are short stages these days. Needing more skill intensity than grinding out long hrs. Sometimes I think going longer more often in training makes you slower, but what do I know.
  17. Woner what other routes they are going to use now that Lebanon is off limits due to land invasion. https://www.facebook.com/LebanonMtbTrails/
  18. As said in a previous post, pace baby pace. Slow start give faster times.
  19. Too true, the main culprit is going out too strong with all the hype etc. I have done it many times, but these days my body says slow down way before it becomes an issue. The hype is real and the rush id great. At CTCT, Smits is where it all goes wrong. Then you feel it at Soetwater a bit and small Chappies does the final bit of damage. Got the T-shirt more than once. But yes if correctly paced (slower start, give it horns the last 40km) you are golden. No cramps and 3:30 to 3:50 guaranteed. It is the slower start that is the issue.
  20. Dude do you want to upset the weight weenies? Those extra grams, ho my hat.
  21. No I know why the times a exponentially slower in the later groups. No one seems to understand that riding in a bunch is the optimal way to go.
  22. But on the CTCT you are never really on your own no matter where you start. There are always some heroes that come blasting past no matter where you find yourself. so technically you can surf wheels all the way if you keep looking for them.
  23. Ask the Audax guys https://audaxsa.co.za/ Or look at something like this. https://www.takealot.com/mini-gps-tracker-pendant-with-sos-2-way-voice-calling-red/PLID69523694
