  1. Right decision.Always ride K2C in a group .It sucks to get to the top of a climb and having to wait for your buddies in driving rain with no shelter. After 2019 the 1st thing I bought was a spsceblanket. Will be back next year.I ride it to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

Yes, and....no. For example, their is a perfectly usable cycle lane from Paarden Eiland into Cape Town, but when riding ALONE (early mornings, mainly) I choose not to use SOME of it, since it passes a VERY well known (repeat) hijacking hotspot - the foot of the stair-bridge that leads from Woodstock, over many, many railway lines, to near Paarden Eiland - usually riders ONLY use that lane when they can ride in multiples, so there ARE exceptions, just so you are aware.

    Cheers, Chris

Did not want to take another chance on Hijack Alley this morning so I took Marine dr.It was a tight fit between the container and bulk fuel carriers

    I’m riding the 160km

does one require lights from the start or is there opportunity to grab spares and lights at a water point and which one?

Only need lights if cycling to start.By end of neutral zone as you ho onto gravel it will be light enough.Beware in neutral zone of high speeds and overtaking over white line with oncoming traffic

  4. After another rant  on fb about the safety on the cycle lane from Paardeneiland to CBD I decided to have a look because I am keen to start commuting again. Some spots in Paardeneiland with glass on the lane.Near Lower Church st bridge  the plants between cycle lane and bus lane have been trimmed down so you have a clear view of section ahead. Metro cops at the N1 underpass.Saw 3 commuters  around 5.30 pm.Won't use it in the dark early AM ,but  thinking about using it in the afternoon on way home.
