Way back in time we used to ride 52/42 with a 11-23 cassette. Later changed to a 53/39 with a 11-25, definitely made climbs like Franschhoek pass easier. However nowadays I'm riding a 50/34 with a 11-30...I'm 20+ yrs older, almost 10kg heavier & lazy!
Install a gear calculator app, play around with the gearing and you'll see prospective speed at certain cadence. It should assist making an informed decision.
exactly. I rode 53/39 with 11/28 in Cape Town no problem.
But if you are in the lowveld Id go with a compact.
My gravelbike runs 50/34 with a 11/40 cassette.
what works best for you where you live and what type of hills/climbs you ride, weight and fitness will determine what you need.

Green an option ??
I mean... why not?
For some unknown reason I didnt trust jonas or roglic until the last km of the stage. haha.
Glad the team started riding like a team.
But this race is by now means a gift to Kuss. He deserved it 100%.
great perspectives!

Sepp has helped both those guys win and not ridden off when he might have been feeling better and Jonas or Primoz have been in the leader jersey. That is especially true for Primoz, who Wout and Sepp have waited, supported and pulled along a fair few times. The whole 'the road will decide' is cool if it's for everyone. No gifts, unless it's Wout pulling you to the line to save your Paris Nice. Just seems like Sepp has to win it on his own and the other guys get to win their GT's with the team around them.
Today didn't really need it, Jumbo were 1,2,3 there wasn't anyone who was a danger up ahead and only Landa was 4th. Landa did a better job working for Sepp than his own team mates. Remember the storm when Froome peddled off for the stage and Wiggins was flapping? They weren't just riding their tempo and wheeling in they were flying into the final. Either way it puts extra stress on your team leader, riding on his own, isolated not just worrying about the stage but also that you could lose the jersey and have to take risks on that descent to get to the line and keep the jersey. What if he'd had a mechanical or a puncture? No teammates to give bike to the leader of the race, what if he'd crashed on the run in trying to get to the line and save the overall from his one team?
The post race interviews were awkward as hell and Sepp talking to Roglic and then turning around and getting his B/day cake. Ouch.
I also remember Froome not getting his 5th TDF, because he was supporting G who had the leaders jersey at that point. the next year G did the same for Bernal. Thats what cycling is about.
Jonas was happy to wait for Tadey, but not for Kuss? We'll reserve final judgement for tomorrow I think. Its the last big mountain stage, although saturday is not an easy one.

Same. It’s almost against the entire spirit of the sport. Cycling is a team sport after all, and you support the guy wearing the jersey, at this stage of the race.
common guys don’t make us lose respect.
Hi all
Got feedback from Ikhambi (the Wahoo distributors) - great guys, excellent support. They, took my feedback (after I got clarity from the Hubbers) back to Wahoo HQ, and got them to authorize a replacement. Got this response today

I bought the roller in Oct last year. But have only ran it seriously the last two months. from strava stats I have 500 and some change, Km's on it. Noticed when I saw my trainer tyre was perishing on the running surface... contacted the support in wahoofitness the next day.
I have a dedicated bike and tyre that's permanently on the roller. No dirt, no bike on and off.
Hi guys
My roller is 10 months old. Has about 500km on (only more serious riding the last two months).
After replacing my older Zaffiro trainer tyre I noticed the wear on the roller as per below. So I sent a support ticket to the suppliers (who were very helpful). They sent a warranty request to Wahoo HQ. Wahoo's reply was "The wear on the roller is normal/cosmetic in nature and the roller can continue to be used without issue for a number of years to come." hmmm.. not so sure.
Mywhoosh doesnt like my laptop.. too old.
But it runs amazing on my Ipad. Workouts, rides everything is 100%.
I'm learning to love it.
But my main training sessions are through TP running through my Garmin 530. No fuss, just business. My screen occupies me with some One Piece Anime, to get my head focussed elsewhere when the watts burn the legs and the interval is still 15min to go.
the comfort of the R355 is quite something. I have one as well as my only outdoors bike (the roadbike is parked on the Kickr). I did the Secunda mtb race in crazy conditions on pirelli 42's and completed it sub-100 while many DS bike owners packed up. So I would say for it. The bike can handle it.
1 minute ago, babse said:"Them all" refering to all their previous models...🤷♂️
haha. exactly. so next year's model will then rule this one as well... Poor Frodo will have to make this journey once per year.
One bike to rule them all.... until next year then we need a new one.
My 'dale was stolen last year. I checked all the pawnshops (and there are quite a few here in my MP town), and FB Marketplace, but nadda. Insurance pd, but I still miss my Cannondale.
I have a pair of Castelli's and two Ciovita bibs. Before that I rode Craft (which is rubbish) and Rapid Sports (not bad considering the price).
The Ciovita and Castelli bibs were a game changer for me. My arse thanked me for spending a bit more for infinitely better. I bought all of them on special over a period.
uber or bolt.red busses maybe. there are private touring cpy's as well that do a good job especially if you have bikes and stuff.
but unless you are willing experience the true south african donation system (by gun or knife point), id stay away from public transport.

Then all that you are really paying for is: derailleur, chainring, chain, cassette and a cable)
That's my 2c
thant was my initial 7k calculation.
Ok. I took all the advice and did some testing (still testing). I got an XT 11-40 cassette (new from a hubber at a bargain) and a new chain from evobikes. I also got a road crank spesific 42T narrow-wide oval ring (Absolute Black). total cost R3.5k
But I got the bikeshop to insolate my FD cable under the bottom bracket. They didnt have the one proposed here in the forum though.
So test 1. I installed the 11-40 and new chain. took some negotiating with the 105 RD, but it runs well. so I have the 50/34 front and 11-40 back. The range is enormous.
I did a 60km ride gravel ride today and only rode on the 50T (I pulled a VWA! legend). Had enough range and no issues. During the dry season I might keep this setup. but the challenge will come with muddy trails. Im a bit worried about losing the top speed of the 50T (still a roadie at heart). But will probably build a bridge and slap the 42T ultimate black oval on (love those ovals).
Thanks for all the advice! Its amazing.

i bought the sworks c-gr cheaply, and it works well. not suspension. just taking the shock out of the knocks.
But the stem is another animal all together. Love it. its one of those products that simply says what it does and does what it says. Its expensive for a stem though, but worth it.
