what year did you race? my cousin raced against the Cronje's brothers etc around 2000. I jouned them in the pits for my year off after school, touring the country. Was super fun. 125 Promo and later GP class. He was SA champion in 2002(if memory serves). Raced Tony Kart. He is(was) 2m tall and 90kg, and although that meant he was racing without any balast on the car, he was still massivly overweight compared to the smaller guys in the class....and we would get protested every race he won because people didnt get how he was beating them haha. Pine town and Umhlanga street races he would lap the entire field haha. Justin, His dad -  Sakkie van Biljon, was a legend of SA oval track racing in the 80s too.

Awesome man. Van Biljon I remember for sure.
Karting I raced from 1990 to 2002. Stocks (then renamed High School), Formula 100 & Supers (on/off).
Mark and Gavin pitted behind us in their first years racing. I know them well still to this day.
Raced so many chassis over the years. Swiss Hutless, PCR and mostly Tony Kart.
I’m also tall (188cm) so spent my karting life on diet. (I made up for it in the following decades though!)

It was an awesome time back then. Packed fields and classes and so many karting SA Champs went onto to great Motorsport careers. Travelled the country with my dad, spent every weekend burning Petrol in some form of engine.

The message is CLEAR - time to move on ....

I certainly am ready to rather log into a "community forum".  If such exist for cyclists in SA, PLEASE post links.

I have to agree. But it feels like a one sided divorce.
I was leading a happy life with Mrs. Bikehub, we laughed, we cried, we sang, and then one day, she got out of bed and decided things were just “not working out”, it’s “not you it’s me” and promptly changed the front door keys. Now I’m sitting at the bar, twisting my wedding ring on my finger after a few tinder nights and wondering to myself, am I cheating on her or is this love affair really over?

    Maxxis F1 tyres? :P

First I ever heard of “Maxxis” was on my racing Kart. They were the new tyre for one year. Front tyre was 30% wider than the Bridgestones from before. DAMN!!! Transformed racing for us back then, grip for daaaaaaaaaaays. But they were shait at heat cycles and you lost 1/10th after the first run and more each run. Tyre budget and setup notes went out the window!

sorry… went off topic there. ????

Merc publicly apologizing to Sir Lewis was rather pathetic. He owes much his success to them.

The team is showing cracks and lack of unison. On the flip side, RBR is pulling as a single unit. As Mr Lance Armstrong says “Mr. Momentum is in the house”

Nothing wrong with that. That’s what bells are for.

It’s that interpretation of the sound of a bell, car horn, etc.. by the person receiving it where the real issue lies. That same “ring ring” can be heard as a “gentle howzit, I’ve come up behind you and don’t want to startle you” to a “GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY NOW YOU INFERIOR MUPPET”

Problem in general these days is people are selfish and super sensitive to everything. We programmed to expect and think the worst. It’s sad.

I’ve always responded and taught my boys the same to a bell or call for “trek” that acknowledged their presence and tell them you’ll move over as soon as safe to do so. And then do so. If they can’t wait, we’ll it’s up to them to find a way around you.

I wont say its dead Mr. The average ratio over the last 3 years is 80/20, but if find that we need more Scale bike we order from our main warehouse in Belgium and will have it in SA as soon as 14 days after ordering. If any individual would like ANY SCOTT product they can order it from local Scott dealer and then we will be able to do special import at minimal cost.

    Hope this make sense.

100% and fully understand the supply vs. demand for the different markets. I’m at old school MTB rider and every time I ride a HT I feel like I’m home. In saying that, I only own a Spark now and sold my last HT a Scale a good few years ago and got a road bike.

I’m convinced the current cycling industry is trying to convince roadies that a gravel bike is cool and traditional. In a few more years, they will all realise they riding a MTB Hardtail ????

  7. AirPod Pro all the way if you’ve got an iPhone. They stay in your ears, have great battery life and you can throw it’s case in your cycling jersey pocket. Noise cancellation works great when I’m listening to audio books or to drown the indoor trainer. Then when you roll up with your mates change them to transparency mode.

I do wear a bandanna type headband that keep sweat off my face so can’t speak to its sweat resilience. But 2 years, no issues.

Noob question.... do the XC rules state that riders must start with one foot on the ground?

I would have thought track-standing on the start line would prevent the not infrequent pedals slips we see off the line, like Nino had in Leogang which essentially ruined his entire race.

Not exactly an extract from the UCI rule book I know. But article here says not allowed. One foot must be on the floor.

It bolts directly to the saddle....

I had my bike upside down today, and for the first time noticed these bolt holes in the Phenom, upon googling, this is apparently what it is for.

Are you telling me I need to go turn over my two bikes now? I also use Phenom’s.....

But on a serious note, I don’t like the toooob exposed like that. Always gets a bit of dirt in between and can puncture it before you ever need it. Used to strap tubes to my MTB, twice when I needed it, it was damaged.

    WrightJnr,

I had a good laugh when viewing Wildogs last week and saw a WrightJnr having a good go at somebody although I can't remember what it was about - I think it may have been the Itchy Boots thread. Was that you? If so, I agree wholeheartedly and am dismayed but the type of opinions and values displayed by many of the comments there.

    Hahaha, yeah. That’s me.

I’ve really enjoyed following her adventures. She’s super humble and I get the impression she just loves riding her bike around the world. She’s never arrogant or rude to anyone she meets yet the lads over on that forum feel the need to slate everything she does.

if I catch you on any other forums I follow I might have to report you as a stalker!!

So basically hit the first corner with over 70 bias on the front brakes.

Great to see RB finally with two drivers who can work their own “magic”.
