  1. These cassettes yes, but I’m referring to the concept of the wide range cassettes. These came about when SRAM launched the 10-42. My reading of the OPs question is that he believes a wide range cassette is an upgrade. It’s only an upgrade in the correct circumstances, and highly unlikely to be beneficial with a 3x
  2. What makes you think an 11-42 is an upgrade? Wide cassettes were designed for a 1x setup. With your 3x, I think this would be more frustrating than beneficial
  3. I suspect they might be rare as hen’s teeth I did read somewhere here on the hub that a boost front hub will work-a boost from hub is 110x15, which is the same as predictive steering hub, so it seems reasonable
  4. The opening question was very much a demand, as opposed to a friendly enquiry. Followed up by accusations that the organisers are inconsiderate. Also, you make it sound as if your suggestion is some novel idea that the organisers had not thought about before. They are well aware that the weekend race suits most people best, but they have their reasons for structuring the events as they do. I was not defensive at all, I made an attacking comment. And I am actually a South African
  5. With an attitude like this, I truly hope the event organisers don’t consider your request
  6. For all the technically blessed riders caught behind people walking single track, maybe you should work on your cardio and speed and get into the single track before the walkers. I’m pretty sure these walkers probably think the technical riders are holding up the show while they try cruise past them on the district roads.
  7. Hi vs low spec is hardly going to come down to just chain, disks and hubs being different. It would be more like fork, drivetrain, complete wheels, etc Still don’t think you were misled by the advertising. Chains and disks are often substituted with what is available. And there is no basis to assume you have inferior hubs just because you don’t see shimano branding
  8. Seeding takes into account winner race time vs individual race time. Your race time is determined by fitness and ability, and since it does factor in winning time, there is also an element of how technical the race is
  9. OP does not know what hubs are currently on his wheels, so these may not work with existing spokes My comments 2 and 3 are still valid as well
  10. Maybe the hub is out of stock with no imminent availability, and there aren’t other options with the same flange and spoke count. Given the age of the spokes, it may be best to replace all of them while building up the wheel. Stans Arch mk3 are notorious for cracking round the spoke opening. Better understand the issues on hand before just saying find a new LBS
  11. If they have derestricted their bikes, it’s the least they can do

  13. Who cares if the bike is chipped? Battery size is the issue. A chipped bike vs a standard bike on a 500w battery both have the same power to deploy over the same distance. A bigger battery or spare battery is a bigger benefit.
  14. There are at least two sides to strava-the social aspect (group rides, pictures, kudos, etc) There is then the fitness/health side where you can analyse your activity, heart rate, effort, etc (which is mostly under the paid option) Anyone with a modern Garmin has access to the same, if not better data in Garmin connect. The paid strava makes sense for those people who actually use the strava app to record activities, or have a lesser gps watch/headunit
  15. In a construed way, my message is supportive. For get about the rapha aspect. You could set yourself a challenge if 200km during a busy week work. The idea is to challenge yourself, motivate yourself. It doesn’t need to be a corporate’s idea of a challenge
  16. which is my point-do it because you want to challenge yourself. So many people get caught up in trying to get to the 500, they forget about having fun. It sounds like you remembered the fun aspect
  17. This is not a challenge, it’s a marketing campaign. If it was truly a challenge, there would be other requirements, such as minimum elevation, minimum speed, must be done in no more than x number of rides. When you are feeling fit and good, set your own challenge, call it the Ouzo300/400/500/1000 or whatever you want, and go for it. No need to wait for the next marketing campaign
  18. It’s so much easier getting the 500km in when you are just happy to be riding and not caring about the challenge. And if you fall short, you are still happy because you were able to ride and be happy.
  19. How did we move from a blue hummer with GP plates to a black hummer with CJ plates?
  20. So many giveaways it’s a scam… driver’s side -> should be drive side Delayed pop -> they always seem to be able to push back and give a time, as if they have any control over this lawyers drawing up a contract -> if this is what they do, they will have a standard contract they just complete for each sale giving company registration docs -> a step too far in trying to make it look legitimate
  21. We cannot measure value in terms of price, and we cannot put it down to ego. People are unique, and driven by different things. Some people spend 80% of their money buying overpriced bikes, some people spend 80% of their lives working and making more money than they could ever spend in a lifetime. Some people spend their lives surfing/mountain biking/trail running? Others live in their fancy apartments in CT overlooking Table Mountain or the Waterfront. At the end of the day, we persue what gives us the most pleasure . Who are we to judge?
  22. Sometimes the more expensive the helmet, the less protection offered, but for a different reason. They tend to offer more ventilation, which just means more openings for sharp (or blunt) objects to penetrate. There are no tests to my knowledge that look at this. I guess the Bontrager Wavecell may help in these instances
  23. Cars may be a depreciating asset, but also an asset that can be enjoyed, if you enjoy driving and road trips. I loved having a hot hatch with a B&O sound system and flappy paddle gear box. A house is an asset, but do you need a 5 bedroom house for you and the missus? That’s also a liability. Yes, the value of the property may go up, but you pay more taxes, water and electricity, more insurance, higher fees for the estate where your house is, more money on maintenance, more domestic workers to keep things in check…so your capital growth is offset by these expenses. And then these rooms are empty most of the time, so you derive no benefit from that. So you need your Vida coffee everyday, or is a nespresso good enough? Water is cheap, maybe drink more water. To each their own, live and let live
  24. Can we change the thread to ‘Magalies Monster - delivered!’ Sounds like a great event as usual, it’s the one race I truly miss and would love to do again.
