  1. Registration opens normally on the 1st February and is open the entire month until the end of February. Then you wait for the confirmation e-mail (hopefully). This year 10 riders from SA are trying for an entry. Good Luck!
  2. Ok, the registration entry for my latest 'Sufferfest" is in. The final entry for the Race will be drawn by lot. Approx. 20000 register hoping to get on of the 4000 starting places. The Race is on the 30th August 2020, starting in Sölden / Austria and covers 238 km with 5500 m Ascent, twice crossing the border between Italy and Austria! Four mountain passes have to be conquered - Kühtai up to 2040 m, Brenner 1350 m, Jaufenpass 2100 m and finally Timmelsjoch 2590 m! Cut-off is approx. 13 1/2 hours and the non-finisher number is normally around 20 - 25%! For those who want to know more and maybe enter in the future, check the link below! Enjoy! https://www.oetztaler-radmarathon.com/home.html
  3. Yes, Yes and again Yes! In the old days HR training was the norm; nowadays PM training is the preferred method to improve in a scientific measurable manner. Reason - HR fluctuates daily according to a number of different criteria such as your overall wellness, external factors like stress (work and pvt life), sleep patterns and so forth. However PM Watt training values remain the same! So if you want to train according to a specific plan, establish what your Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is and have your power zones and plan (towards your end goal) set up for those, combined with specific small periodic increments as you improve. Your HR will just follow whatever your training will be and over time you will see gradual and regular improvement; i.e. increase in achievable FTP and overall lower HR in those PM zones. My FTP improved over five years from 225 (start) to 319 (current).
  4. You cannot claim on the warranty if the you are dead having another crash due to the frame failing. Stay away from repairing this and rather do not take a chance!

    Maluti 180

Are there any teams taking part in the Maloti 180 in April that might be looking for a team member and that maybe I could join? . My mates have all pulled out.. Thanks for any response!
  6. Maybe, but it takes a few years!
  7. I use a set of Ryder Tyre Liners wit tubes inside both my training and Zipp racing wheels. They do weigh a few extra grams and maybe detract slightly from the ride quality, but these are small cons compared to lack of punctures with normal tubes only or the associated hassles with tubeless. I cannot remember the last time I got a normal puncture due to stones or glass. My tubes wear out due to old age before they puncture!1
  8. Never ride alone; take some 'protection' with you! I ride on the road but always have my two 'friends' with me!
  9. This guy tried to buy a car from me; an alias he used was Barry, being a diver, working on an offshore rig etc.
  10. With myself it all depends what kind of riding I am doing - for general steady tempo it can vary between 46 - 54 to 50 - 50. For hard climbing anything between 48 - 52 to 52 - 48. For hectic intervals I am surprisingly steady between 49 - 51 to 51 - 49 (all LH vs RH). According to my coach 42 - 58 is too far out of the norm as the one side works much harder than the other and will deplete your energy reserves during a long ride. Check your set-up first as variations in leg length & strength etc. (general genetics differences) can play a role and/or consult a Biokinetisist.
  11. I utilized Emirates for a flight to Munich and took my Bike Box and one suitcase for a Race in Austria in August 2016. I read the same conditions then but advised/checked/ notified them well in advance with a reference number that this would be happening. When I checked in they referred to this number and all was sorted, as long as the weight was not exceeded!!
  12. I received an SMS from CycleLab this morning; Tons of Sale items still available so I am sure that the trainer is also still available at the reduced price.as they had quite a few units.
  13. Name & shame together with a negative rating!!
  14. I am sure Chris Froome will disagree with you.
  15. Purely just due to his notoriety!
  16. While everyone is entitled to his opinion, this comparison is similar to CR7 or Lionel Messi with Pele. Different era's, different playing styles, different teams and training methods etc. However, my opinion here, one cannot argue with the numbers; to name a few of Eddie's achievements: Winning all the Grand Tours and also five GT's in a row, winning just about every one-day classic, more than once winning with long solo breakaways, winning the World Champs etc. Some of his records still stand today! Lance was only famous for a World Championship and his seven drug induced TdF's. No one knows what Eddie " The Cannibal" Merckx would have achieved with modern equipment and riding techniques. In my 'humble' opinion Lance was still an exceptional athlete but Eddie is the King! Just like Pele , who won three World Cups while the other two have a combined total of zero, is the King!
  17. If these were in my garage, I would not have a wife anymore!
  18. Hi Guys, I think he is asking with regard to maybe selling it here and getting a new State-o-the-Art bike over there instead while not having to pay for a new one here with our crap ROE and taxes. The Q is: Depending on the circumstances with moving over there, can you afford a new bike over there paying in pounds or rather keep it and keep your Rands converted to pounds and rather check out what else might be available. But after four years with the same bike maybe its time for an upgrade if you can afford it? Happy travels!
  19. Relax , guys like this will not get it. What is it to him what groupset someone wants to buy (and can afford) for his bike. Those who can will in any case not give a rat's arse about his pitiful opinion!
  20. BMW GS 1200/LC Adventure.
  21. Jealousy is a horrible character trait!
  22. If you ride like a moron, get yourself run over but do not cry about it afterwards. You will not get any sympathy from anyone. Problem is that bad behaviour by a selfish few reflects badly on all cyclists! But sadly, that is the general state of our society at large.
