  2. Its a "relatively" flat route, with only 800m of climbing over the entire 113km distance. Most of it is in the middle of the ride, as we go over to Broederstroom, and then make our way back to through Harties to the the Magaliesberg slopes. I have attached a route map and profile. Please remember to just let me know if you plan to join us, so we know to expect you on the morning.
  3. We are riding together in the morning, I will chat to him and then get back to you. The other question then is, what mounts work best? Im considering donating my old otterbox cover, and just epoxying an old headlight mount to the otterbox.
  4. We are doing a group ride from PTA to Harties and back on Saturday. There is a link to download the route file at the end of the post. There is no charge for this ride - but bring some money or a card for coffee at Jasmyn We will be departing at 05:45am from the Parking lot of the Waverley Plaza Shopping Centre, from the area in front of th Postnet. If is safe to leave your car here for the day. The ride circular route is 113km, and we will head out through Pretoria west, on gravel most of the way, skirting the southern slope of the Magaliesberg. We will then go past the Harties Cableway, and ride on through town, towards Jasmyn, where we will stop for a coffee/snack (for your own account) We will then cross over the old train bridge into broederstoom, along some more farm tracks, and then make our way back towards Hartebeespoort, going back towards the cable car, and then returning along the same gravel road at the foot of the Magaliesberg. Pace will be between 20-22km/h. It is a relatively flat route most of the way. We will provide a backup vehicle, as well as water refills along the way. You are welcome to provide your own snacks etc that can be carried along in the backup car. the route is split about 50/50 between gravel and tar, and is suitable to MTBs and Gravel Bikes If you plan to join us on Saturday, please whatsapp me on 0632202895 or email taun@adventurelogistics.co.za, just so we have an idea of numbers for the day, and that we dont leave you behind at the start. 5. You want the pre-load dialed all the way up, to the plus side, and then wind it down till you get the requited sag. Remember, the more preload you have dailed in, the less inertia is required to get the fork moving through its travel.
  6. Trying to help a friend out who is on a budget, and needs to replace his cycling computer after some alternative shopping took place in his garage. He has an old iPhone 6 that is still in perfect working order, and I suggested he just use that as his cycling computer/gps. but the question of HR monitoring came up. The current garmin strap he has is an ANT+ type, so guessing this wont work with iPhone, but will any bluetooth strap work with an iPhone, or do you need a specific iPhone compatible strap?
  7. Flash sale has sadly come to an end. The Limpopo Wild Ride Still only has 2 spots left, and it might not be half price anymore, but it is still marked down by 30% until the end of the month, so if you want one of those last two spots, act now. Many of our trips are also still marked down between 20 and 30%, untl the end of the month. So take a look at our options for next year, and book now, while space is still availalbe.
  8. Two hours to go. A hadfull of hubbers have already secured themselves some sweet deals. Im off to bed now, but the system will be changing the pricing back to normal at the stroke of midnight. So if your still in two minds, now it your time to strike.
  9. There are now only 2 spots left for the Limpopo Wild Ride in Jan next year. This won’t only be your last chance to book at this price, this will probably be your last chance to to book this trip, period. There are also only a handful of spots left on the other two trips. Don’t delay, offer expires in just a couple of hours
  10. Last week it was the weekend rides that were on Sale, but this week we are running a flash sale on some of our longer trips for 2021. Dont miss out, prices are only valid till midnight tonight, and availability is limited The trips currently avialable at half price are: Hessequa/Overberg Cruise - This is a luxury "slackpacking" trip, taking you from Stillbaai to Hermanus, along some of the best back roads the Overberg has to offer. We inlcude an airport transfer from George Airport, or a shuttle from Cape Town for this trip, as well as a return shuttle to Cape Town Airport after the trip. If you book the 2-8 September departure, we will include the 9-11 Sep Cheese and Wine Ride, free of charge, as well as your accomodation in Stanford on the 8th of September, so you will get a full 10 Day MTB holiday, for only R4375.00pp if you book today. Ride the RIchtersveld - This is an icredible arid enviroment riding trip, following many of the routes that also form part of the Desert Knights Event, which was sadly cancelled this year, but in a much smaller group, making for a really spectacular Experience. This includes transfer from Either Cape Town or JNB. If you are going down to Cape Town for the Argus this year, this is the perfect event to add onto your trip, for the week directly after the CTCT. and finally Limpopo Wild Ride - There is only one departure for this trip next year, the 14th-18th of January, and there are only 3 places left for this ride. When we say this is a proper wilderness adventure, we mean it. This is really not to be missed. Remember, places are limited on all these trips, and the 50% off only applies until midnight tonight..... We look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, feel free to email info@adventurelogistics,co.za or call us on 012 682 0185, or whatsapp on 0632202895
  11. Ok, seems I was confused. Borders are now open for drive in, so long as you have a 72hour or newer Negative PCR test
  12. Dates have been set for the November night ride. We will be doing it again from the same venue on the 18th of November 2020. Tickets can be purchased here - Booking is essential, and like the last time, we expect the ride to sell out pretty quickly, so dont delay, book your spots now... Its only R100.00 anyway. Click here to book a spot on Novembers ride now
  13. I saw that same thing on some of the Namibia FB groups too, but it clearly says under the heading Travellers coming for tourism - that you must present the Negative test before boarding your flight to namibia, Ariamsvlie has been open for business travellers since we moved to level 1 in South Africa, but to the best of my knowledge, tourism, or Lieusure travel is by via Windhoek or Walvis Bay only (meaning fly in only). I will ask a friend from Namibia to confirm as well.
  14. haha, that will be fun in sure...... This weekend I rode a hardtail for the first time in a while. I very decent, XC race type bike, and flip, was it fast on the gravel compared to my full sus...... but, getting a little carried away, flying down a hill on the sir Robert Stanford at about 50km/h, and deciding to jump the little arched bridge over the stream, I was very quickly reminided we I love suspension. Nothing went wrong, I landed it well, but nothing on earth could prepare me for how fast that hardtail would throw the back wheel up....... I very nearly learned how to do a front flip, without trying...... Enduro on a rigid bike.... thanks but no thanks.....
  15. Just make sure about this, I will also ask around again, but as of last week, those borders were only open for returning residents, or persons travelling on business. For Leisure travel is was fly in only. But if this has changed, that is great news
  16. Next week from the 3rd to the 5th of November, we will be staying on Mount Camdeboo Private Game reserve outside of Graaf Rienette. We will be exploring the Jeep tracks and wildlife paths of this Big 5 Karoo reserve, to assess its viability for a regular 3 to 5 day MTB trip for small groups of 6 to 8 people, as well as a stage race event for 2022. We are looking to take 3 riders along for this trip @ R1550.00pp. This will include return transfer from PE, 2 nights accommodation at Mt Camdeboo (this alone normally costs around R3500pp/pn), all meals, and 3 epic days of exploring a true Karoo gem from your bike. If you are keen, drop me a PM, or email me taun@adventurelogistics.co.za For some background on the reserve: https://newmarkhotels.com/places/reserves/mount-camdeboo/
  17. Over the course of the next couple of weeks/months, we will be embarking on a handful of exploratory trips/reccess for new trips and tours that will be added to the calender for late 2021 and early 2022. With these trips, its always nice to have a couple of extra riders along, to get outside opinions on routes/distances etc, as well as to have a few more riders in the pictures. We will use this thread in future to put out information about these trips, and see if there is anyone keen to come along. Some Headsup - 1. It will almost always be on relativily short notice (1 - 2 weeks, if you lucky) 2. It will more often than not be over weekdays and not always weeekends. 3. It will not be a free ride. There will be costs involved, but this will be to cover basic expenses like meals and travel, and sometimes accomodation. The prices will be much much cheaper than any commercial trip, and would be just to cover costs. But - on the up side, you will be given the opportunity to ride in places that no one else has ever been. Generally with pretty kick ass accomodation included, and you will be able to put your mark in a small way to developing new and fun riding around the country. So, lets see if we have any takers. We have 2 opportunities coming up now, one is actually only a couple of days away. 3-5 November - Mt Camdeboo in the Karoo. Ideally suited to riders from PE - we have space for 4 riders @ R1550.00pp - details to follow in post 2 19-24 November - Zinave NP in Mozambique - Ideally suited to JHB/PTA based riders (We will post more details about this one later today still)
  18. Has it occured to you that maybe you are just not as good as you thought you are??? I dont generally think its worth taking these things so seriously. If you enjoyed yourself, then it was a good day out?
  19. But I Realise I havent anwered the actual question. Bike boxes are well within airline baggage size llimits. But every airline has a different policy for travelling with sports equipment, so will be a good idea to check with them beforehand. Most likely you will need to pay a small extra fee. give yourself an extra 20min for check in. You normally need to check your luggage in as per usual, they will weigh the bike box at the luggage check in, and give you a sticker, but you will then need to take it through to the non conveyable baggage drop, and sign it in there, before going through security. Make sure you bike is covered for travel by your insurance. Airline baggage insurance normally covers a maximum item value of R2000.00 or so, so it is completely inadequete to cover your bike.
  20. Noted. I have been schooled now. Must admit, 35mm seems a bit overkill on an xc bike, and SID has always been an XC fork. but I guess with XC courses getting more and more technical, this makes sense
  21. You would have to fly. Currently Namibia is only open for leisure travel by air. No road borders are allowing liesure travellers in
  22. SID is Rockshox flagship XC racing fork, and its all about being lightweight. It has 32mm stanchions
  23. All of our trips are currently marked down between 20% and 30%, so dont miss out on the opportunity to book a spot now, and join us on our next awesome adventure. If you are looking for something different to do either the weekend before, or the weekend after the Argus, we are running a Cheese and Wine Ride the 26-28 Feb and the 5-7 March 2021. Spaces are limited, so book now to avoid dissapointment. click here, and then select one of the dates on the top of the page to book: https://adventurelogistics.co.za/stanford-cheese-and-wine-mtb-weekend/
  24. Yes, through axles are easier to fit an remove, but thats not really why they replaced QR. It also has a lot to do with stability and stifness. It is a far superior axle design, and you get a much stiffer all round package with a thru axle
