  1. Managed to get a better look at the dive-bombing bird yesterday - VERY briefly... At a wide guess - a Wattled Lapwing. I remember this sound. XC457297 - African Wattled Lapwing - Vanellus senegallus.mp3
  2. Bird still there. Got tagged again yesterday.
  3. At least I'm not alone! Was wondering if the Miltons I'm using to clean out the bladder was starting to cause hallucinations
  4. Mmmmm...I think I would have notice black and white. From what I remember, definitely grey.
  5. So I eventually rode Modders yesterday. Firstly, the single track is looking GREAT! thanks to the guys for all the work there. A few new bridges. Looks like a fire has taken care of some of the long grass and removed the reeds. I'm a bit sad about the reeds, hopefully they grow back! Well...never mine the "snakes" reported lately. My encounter yesterday was a first for me! So, I'm blitzing through Modders on my Rocky Mountain and get to my favourite part - the River Section! I enter the trees and ride over the new bridge section and over the older wooden bridge. I duck under a very low tree and a few seconds later, a grey bird flys right in front of my face...I wright this off to timing and perhaps a misguided pigeon. My focus is all on the trail as I carve the corners as fast as I can....BAM something smacks me on my helmet! As I was still debating to myself if this was a branch I might have missed...BAM another aerial assault that was so hard, it knock my helmet forward Sprinting on the return leg I get tagged once more before I exit the trees. So I don't know what bird smacked my helmet 3 times but I hope we won't be disturbing a nesting pair in those trees! Please take care in this section! Perhaps the bird watchers can determine what bird it was...I was not going to hang around to pick out the colour and shape
  6. Sell this idea to Stage races... Otherwise...THE COMPUTER SAYS ....NO...
  7. I too bought TWO multipass cards. YES TWO! Well done to the previous owners who saw us coming and pocketed the $$ only to close soon afterwards... If someone said " you can carry on with EMPTY promises with your mulitpass, OR lose the $$ for a new company that shares my passion and is prepared to do their best to maintain the trail..." I'll take the red pill Don't buy BIG Macs for a week and you will recover the $$ and ride faster...
  8. . That's why we are on the HUB, to share our interest. Feels good to give for a change!
  9. Rear or front??? Send me a PM i might be able to assist.
  10. Perhaps some updated pics of the trails to get us excited would be great!!!
  11. Hi, any updates? Have you been busy during Lockdown? Any ideas at what stage you will be open for rides?
  12. YIP...really poor communication from ASG. Just get an automated response: "My apologies for such a delay. We have 900+ orders and they will all be despatched as quickly as possible - We request you to please keep in mind that all orders cannot be sent simultaneously. Deliveries will start on Today Thank you for buying from us as well as your patience – we assure you that we have put measures in place to try and ensure that this does not happen again." still waiting...
  13. Really good price on these? https://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/marvel-xc-two-7-plus-boost-carbon-wheelset
  14. At least we have FEEDBACK...100% improvement already.
  15. Thanks for the updates chaps! 21st March HAPPENS to be a public holiday...good time to test the trails out! One big concern is the validity of the multi-access cards. I hope they accept these cards when they reopen. Any feedback on this?
  16. When they compare the outdoor ride to the "surf board", something doesn't look right...left/right/left
  17. If you ride there regularly, you'll know how awesome this park can be, if maintained to a standard! Sadly this standard has not been there in recent memory... BUT ....Winter in coming!!!
  18. Good to hear Reeds sections have been cut! Was taking a beating there !
  19. At least you are doing the right sport for knee injury. After my operation, I discovered cycling as one of the few sports to offer less impact! 5yrs later still riding MTB. AND I don't miss running
  20. Rode Modders yesterday. Very little has changed from last week regarding additional maintenance on the single track... The first little single track section as you pass the entrance on your left has been mowed. Really hard to see where else has been mowed except for the Park Run route. The section between the reeds on both sides is very difficult to pass through. In 2 weeks time, it won't be worth using this section. I think we all understand that this is a big park to maintain, especially with the rain at the moment, but surely there must be some progress by now. Can't blame December and January anymore. Are these people responsible for the maintenance still? Perhaps they and help us understand what's going on...
  21. Great place to ride!! Around 18km if i can recall. I was there 2 weeks ago and the rain has pooled up on some of the burms. Place also needs a bit of attention, overgrown. I pay a donation every month to assist with the security guy they have onsite. There is a Riverfields MTB Trail group on Whatsapp you can join - Looks like admin only can make comments. Sure there is someone with more current info on the EAST.
