  1. It's been a long time since I was there. I've been in Morzine/Les Gets more recently, but I don't remember those either - I'm sure you do. But I can cycle to Tokai and still be home in time for a braai. Canada and France are a bit further away
  2. Mmmmm Whistler.... I want to go back! I wish that they'd give me a discount on my activity permit since I'm already forking out for a family SANParks wildcard, but obviously that's not the case. I'm going to go to Tokai on Friday to renew my permit before they hike up the price again. Please tell me that they'll be open at 3:30
  3. I also have the clip on Thule. I love it! Easy to put on and take off, and it's super solid. Also, it can't be stolen without opening the boot lid, so that's a plus - I can just forget about it on a ride. My bike barely sticks out to the sides with both wheels on (29er and road bike) maybe 5cm on each side. Maybe my car is just wider? The clip on is more expensive, but it's benefits far outweigh the initial cost. Straps suck ass
  4. More delays for a name change? I don't get it. It wasn't exciting for the Argus, and it's not exciting for Die Burger....
  5. I used Wiggle a few times when I lived in the UK and never had any issues at all. Always had quick and efficient delivery with decent pricing.
  6. Aah man! I was chaotically busy yesterday and didn't manage to get online at all. I fit all of your criteria perfectly and Tokai is my local. Sad Have fun on the ride! I hope to do it one day...
  7. The drop off from the wooden bridge is a harder landing than the jumps! Do it! Just compress your body on the landing and you'll be fine. Just make sure your tyres are pumped up enough. Mine weren't and I'm still hurting...
  8. It doesn't really answer all of your questions, but I have a bike bag available in CT: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/99782-brand-x-bikes-padded-bike-bag/
  9. I have a BMC road bike and have nothing but compliments for it. I know that most people will love what ever bike they're on, but mine has been absolutely sublime since I bought it. I got it new in 2012. It's also carbon, and everything on it just shouts quality. It's extremely comfortable, smooth and fast. I'd have no hesitation in recommending BMC as a brand. I'd love to get a BMC mountain bike! They're also the current cross country world champions! Don't be a sheep on a Spez, get the BMC. You will not be disappointed.
  10. I can't make it to this one - had a crash two weeks ago in the Roots and still can't lift my arm properly... I'll definitely be at the next one though! I enjoyed it last time, especially riding over sections afterwards that i had helped to 'enhance' But especially the beer afterwards
  11. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Educate yourself about the prices these bikes go for, and it's easy to spot when something's not right.
  12. There's no reply in today's paper from the Doctor...
  13. Why not just move the brake clamp more towards the center of the bar?
  14. I saw the riot truck in the pictures and thought that it was a bit overkill - cyclists are all well mannered
  15. That's hectic! Would be an awesome adventure
  16. I've never had a problem buying on the hub, and most of the time what I receive is in a better than advertised condition. Collecting from the dudes house or sending it from the other side of the country it's all the same.
  17. I use a saddle bag on my road bike - I seriously could not be bothered to load all the bits into my shirt for each ride. And for a race that's where the sweets and biltong have to go And for mountain biking everything lives in my camelback.
  18. Whenever I've had wheels done at a shop I've always been given a price and told "it might go up depending on what we find" - as long as they don't break too much in the process then I think that's acceptable. R500 more though is slightly taking the piss
  19. I ride with nothing now. Removed the computer too. I check my watch when I leave and again when I get back. The only time that I find it useful to have some info is when you're suffering in a long unfamiliar race and want to know how much further it is until the suffering ends Getting rid of all the gadgets has allowed me to 'feel' what's going on. I can feel my heart rate and know when to push and when to back off. I'm not focused on the screen anymore, I'm just enjoying the ride.
  20. I like that Merida. There was one for sale in the classifieds a few weeks ago - it looked better in those pics
  21. Nobody's mentioned BMC!! I love my BMC! It's super comfortable, light and fast. And I think it looks the dogs danglies. They even won the Tour de France in 2012 (besides plenty of off road wins recently) What more could you possibly want??
  22. Small differences (within reason) I think is fine. But not a 150% increase!
  23. Amazing to see! Makes me wonder about the Oak Valley 24hr I'll just have to ride faster!
  24. After 600km I make sure that my gears are shifting smoothly Costs me ten minutes of my time
