  1. No worries, happy to answer. 1. The company is not sponsoring me, I am applying through a migration agent though. 2. The company is on the approved employers list, so even if I did not qualify for a Residency Application I could fall back to applying for a Work (Talent) Visa as my salary will be above the required threshold and the company is on the approved list.
  2. Seems my application went in just in time, with any luck we will be NZ residents before the end of this year. Also came across this yesterday - http://www.thefifthestate.com.au/urbanism/infrastructure/on-yer-bike-itll-make-you-a-happier-worker/85548 I start work in Auckland on 23 Jan, the idea is to use only my bicycle to get to work
  3. http://www.pistolwear.com/pt-2-concealment-holster/ They ship to SA This is an add for the M&P Shield, but shows the holster in action
  4. Out on a run once I looked down at my Garmin, it was telling me my heart rate was at something like 107% percent of my max Scared the crap out of me! - I dont run with my heart rate monitor any more
  5. Thanks for the comments guys, went and bought it this weekend, what a ride! Compared to my old KHS this bike rocks! Knocked a couple of minutes of my ride into work this morning, real test will be back home this afternoon when its mostly uphill - my arse will have to get used to the rock hard seat though, old bike had a nice fat and cushy one.
  6. Thanks Byron, the price is on a new one so I thought I might as well jump on it. I am not to worried about weight, I want something reliable and I want gears that change when I want it to change, this is something that really frustrates me on my current ride. I also like the look of the 2016, matt Black and Grey, very pretty
  7. Howzit all, need some advise please. Searched the forum stukkend and from what I have learned this is not a bad bike, there are other options, but at the moment i can get this for 16K, and at this price it seems like a good deal. Bit of background. I don't do any serious racing, this bike will mostly be used for commuting to work and the odd weekend ride or race. I currently use a 2010 KHS Alite 500 - Low end bike but does the job. I do about 100km a week I am pretty big - 1,96 CM so I recon a 29'er will suit me better. Is this still good value for 16K?
  8. I want to start commuting from Honeydew Ridge to Jhb CBD - The safest route I have plotted out takes me over Northcliff Hill, not fit enough for it yet but working on it, hopefully in a couple of weeks I can start twice a week and go from there. Its about 25km each way with some horrible climbs
  9. Oops, the info is so secret i had to hide it, just highlite the empty space there
  10. 11. I went for quick 30km's this morning (04:30). Its not that bad once you get going, but when I got back home, my nose, lips, fingers and toes were lekker cold, and not to mention the erm.... ja.... it was no where to be found It's all about how you dress and layer, but this was one of the colder mornings so far, and the wind was k@k I go out with tri-shorts, tri-shirt, long sleeve vest and a jacket thingy I bought from Macro, and it keeps me warm enough, but the tips and bits are always cold, no matter what I do. For the feet i put on two pairs of socks, with kevlar booties, and I wear my running gloves, and over that a thick pair of wool cloves, I gooi a buff on my melon, and off I go, I am usually warm enough after 15 minutes to zip down the jacket
  12. thanks for the offer no.one.knows. Currently my budget is as tight as a snare drum, but I will let you know... with my luck by then it will be warm enough to ride without them
  13. Its actually not that bad slowpoke, the first 5 minutes is the worst, you usually cant see anything because your eyeballs vibrate so much from the shivering, but after that you warm up nicely. Usually its only my feet that suffers a bit, but this morning my hands also paid the price, must have been the coldest training ride i have done thus far. Not sure what the actuall temp was outside. The Virgin Active board on Beyers displayed 0, when I left for work at 07:00 my car displayed -1, and the weather report on tv displayed +1. Not sure who to believesmileys/smiley2.gif ewep, tell me more about this ride smileys/smiley4.gif
  14. Nuts? Could be, but it is the best time for me to train, have to be at home by 6:15 to start getting ready for work/feed the dogs/feed the girlfriend....yes she is spoilt... and all the other little things one does in the morning. I dont like cycling after work due to traffic, and the fact that once i get home after work i am to lazy to go cycling smileys/smiley1.gif But getting up at 4 is not bad, the first couple of weeks was bad, but once you get used to it, its very nice to go cycling on virtually empty roads... Just the cold getting to me, this morning was especially bad, I refused to go faster than 20km/h....
  15. Thanks guys, I guess that the fact that I use shoes with huge holes for extra ventilation is not helping either hey? smileys/smiley4.gif
  16. What do you guys suggest for keeping my feet warm on my morning rides (04:15) This morning was one to much, took 30 minutes for my toes to thaw out. I am using two pairs of hiking socks I got from Tasmania, especialy made for cold weather climbing, but they did nothing to keep my feet warm. I have seen those booties that some folks use, are they any good for keeping the feet warm, and are they expensive? Might try glad wrap tomorrow morning and see if that works smileys/smiley36.gif
  17. sniffing cool-aid also works, doesnt cure the drip, but at least the snot tastes better...
  18. slowpoke, I might be joining you on those commutes, I am thinking of starting to cycle to work (Jhb Central) every day, from Welties it is about 20k's. Just need to fix/build up the mountain bike again as i dont want to use my road bike for this every day.
  19. Can not confirm yet, but I am 90% sure I will be able to make it for Friday smileys/smiley1.gif
  20. If you run with proper form you should not get injured. Most running injuries, especially the knees, are caused by over use or improper form. I picked up knee problems because of cycling, and not running, but this was my own fault by doing to much to soon.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> One thing to remember, it takes longer for your body to recover from a hard run then it takes to recover from a hard cycle. So if you have the time, then performing correct running workouts will improve your endurance and base fitness. I started following "Hadd's Approach to Distance Training" and the impact on my joints is far less. I recently completed the Pirates 21, any one that is involved in running will agree on me that they don?t call it the toughest 21 in <?:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />South Africafor nothing, but by following Hadd's principals, I had a very easy run and no soreness the next day. I don't believe you can be a super cyclist and a super runner at the same time, but by doing the one, you definitely assist the other.
  21. Hi slowpoke, I will be doing the Harmony challenge (100km) in Randfontein on Saturday, so I will have to pass on this one.
