  1. their blurb states '90min of vigorous activity' recorded on a device. Or some races as you say...
  2. The endurance option will give you 600pts for 180min @>60% HR. there is a scale, but that's the max you can get. look it up. I found it worthwhile to join.
  3. Cycle, yes. Drive, no. It's a rail service road, so Transnet and only people who live along there are permitted. Not that a sign stating that is very effective. As it's a rail service road, the grades are non-existent, but the surface varies from pristine to shocking
  4. How a business wants to conduct their business is, well, their business. Yes, it may impact me, but that's my stuff to deal with. If that doesn't suit me, then I can choose to take my business elsewhere. There are always choices. So, quite a bit like life really.
  5. OK, not quite Cape Town, but why not try this? https://www.strava.com/routes/3184445446602270538 ~900km 3000m elevation. 95% gravel. It's point-to-point and no options to Uber back...
  6. I rode around there guided by @Mamil. I think he rummaged about in Google Earth looking for likely roads.
  7. There is good gravel from Melkbos. Some tar to get there, but not terrible if you have the whole day. Also, Malmesbury isn't far and there are days of riding out there.
  8. I twiddled with Kodi yesterday on a Windoze notebook, but was unable to find anything that may aid cycling streaming - the Kodi build I got didn't provide Eurosport. Perhaps someone who's done this can share some help for us helpless ones?
  9. Also a good choice. Tar is a bit rough, but in good condition. Be sure to fill up water when you can.
  10. This route is safe. The segment from Saldanha BACK to Vredenburg is not great if cycling with the traffic. It's best to ride on the opposite site. It's a duel carriage, and going UP the hill, there is no shoulder, but on the opposite side, it's generous. It's not far, but pretty hairy riding facing the oncoming traffic that will be +80kmh, but it's a better alternative than with traffic.
  11. Quite right about the rebuild being tricky. The balls are tiny and stick to the most lightly greased surface. But I'm confident I got them all. None of the races were pitted either When I took out the pedal assembly earlier, there was loads of grease still, but the jam nut was loose. I put an 8mm Allen wrench in a vice, mounted the spindle on that, then used the adjustment nut to set the smoothness/play, then carefully used the jam nut to lock it all down. Again... This time with a bit more tightness... quite a lot more really... This is only IDT, so worst case won't be too bad. Actually, worst case is a new set of pedals and I'd like to avoid that
  12. I've got a set of 8yo 105 road pedals. They've been flawless as you'd expect, but recently, I noticed one wasn't rotating with gravity into the 'ready' position. It felt rough on the crank, while still spinning easy enough; just not with gravity So, I rebuilt it, ensuring plenty of grease and that the spindle was smooth before and after inserting into the pedal body. There were no major warning signs i could see on the spindle. After a ride or two, it was spinning nicely again. Until now... it's rough again. I'll rebuild it again, but is this the end?
  13. I'm pretty sure the grey will beat any flesh-toned exposure
  14. fad, as in everyone did it, but it didn't work, or fad in that everyone did it, then swapped to the next hyped diet and those that kept it up are now just doing it as part of their lifestyle?
  15. I've bought in-store a few times recently and they're fine. They also warrantied an item not bought from them.
  16. Thanks all. at this stage is the reverse of the old Pritt advert - it's the good without the glue... I'll try the acetone option, redo the rim tape and hold thumbs.
  17. My gravel bike, Peaches, has been sitting idle for far too long and the tyres are flat. I decided to clean the up and the mess inside the tyre is unholy. It's stickier than the stickiest thing. I think it's Enduro Seal, but not sure. I know it's not Stans How can I best clean it all out? No solvent seems to help; soapy water just gets everything wet and wiping it just softens it and moves it around. I'm at my wits end and considering just using fire. Lots of it.
  18. Put a 'back in stock alert on Evobikes and wait. I got 2x there in November
  19. I think this article was well-measured. It's not merely a case of 'move on if you don't like it' - it's more a case of strava herding us all down a path we never signed up for. Strava's biggest failing was offering a stellar product from the start and packing too much in. Now the other shoe's dropped and they're scrabbling to make this a sustainable business and like all social media (calling a spade a spade here), the users end up being the product and in doing so, the aforementioned herding is taking place. The only choice each of us has as an individual is to vote with feet and wallets. Does that mean we need to tell everyone? I guess, that's a 'yes' if I'm a journalist. Otherwise, it's probably best for me to STFU and move along
  20. my understanding is the frames are identical with different builds and colours for each model
  21. Thought the wind would drop after dark like usual... not this time... sigh. The upside was spotting a porcupine. I called him Spike
  22. pop in. I'll cook you something... Forecasts show tailwinds for what seems like forever
  23. That sounds like that's that then... back to the Sky train days... none of which sound terribly exciting to me really.
