  1. This from a 76 year old who has been cycling for almost 40 years .

postpone the  scan and do another test in 3 or 4 months time . Lots of factors influencing the count .

scan will be inconclusive and then you will be sent for a biopsy .

pse levels go up with age

but it is your health your decision

    Me.

I was warming up to meet my training group this morning and was inside the yellow shoulder on the way to Cape Town stadium. Then the TV channel switched and I was flung somewhere and, getting up, I couldn’t see the car. The rear view mirror and fender guard left behind on the scene was off a Renault Kwid, not many of them around.

I am privileged to have an excellent health care network around me and hope to fully recover - very eina right leg, fractured ribs and scrapes and bruises, fortunately my spine and brain intact.

I am a lucky man. Please send healing vibes, Peoples.💛

Man would I love to be part of the party knocking on that drivers front door returning his mirror to him .

  3. As a small shop it is difficult to buy from importers but have been lucky the last 6 years to get Maxxis which I used myself ( Recon Race ) and supplied my customers all happy. But when my supplier ran out of stock I got hold of some Vittoria stock running Mezcal on my Scalpel and am very happy with them . Low resistance light and hard wearing

  4. Sticking to the topic 😇

sometimes the margin between making it home safely or becoming part of the statistics is inches . Like about 2 inches today in my case .

my riding buddy and me were cycling towards Prince Albert early today on the tar road from the N1 . We were lit up like Christmas trees I had my Varia plus my Bontrager Flash on my seatpost.

we heard a car coming at high speed and were riding single file sticking to the very egde of the road . The @#$&% in a red Golf passed us at a guess 140 or more on a straight open road . Call me liar for saying 2 inches and make it 3 .

Lo and behold few km’s on we saw the car parked next to the road .  I was planning my shots and kicks . The driver was completely passed out . We opened his door he was out stone cold and unresponsive . A few minutes earlier he was hurtling that projectile at high speed .

We stopped at our local police station and reported the incident and saw them leave with a van.

Cycling towards town I was thinking of all our brothers who were doing what we were doing and did not make it .

And was thinking of Jenny Munton still fighting for her life .

picked up a bit of plantar fascittis while on a run yesterday, first time ever. Felt a bit of pain and thought i could run through it, 500 metres later end of run. hobbled home and hobbling around treating it with ice etc. First time ever and has come at a very bad time.

Internet wisdom says 1 to 3 weeks recovery which i can ill afford right now but is what it is.  For those that have had this , what is the general time down?

Adjust your thinking. This needs time . I disregarded that advice and ended up having ops on both feet .

  6. Each to his own . But I won’t change to 1 x 12 . So many advantages of sticking with much cheaper cassettes chains etc . Yes 1 x is simpler and neater and lighter . I run 1 x 11 on my mtb …again cheaper than 1 x 12 and 2 x10 on my gravel bike . Just closer range on the 2 x10 is just so nice . Got my helmet on so throw those stones 😇

My "pavement special" needs some TLC if it is going to get round CTCT again and I need some parts. It is a Hansom rigid steel frame "mountain bike" from about 1990.

It still has an original Shimano "Biopace" chainring. But it is worn and needs to be retired. I an happy to replace it with a conventional round chainring (I will keep the old one in case someone wants to restore it to original one day) but for the moment I want to ride it. The original is a combined item with chainring riveted onto the cranks. So I need a 3x (7 speed) chainring, 48, 38, 28 teeth (but wider ratios could be fun) on 170 mm crank arms, all to fit on a square taper bottom bracket.

Then I am also battling with the square taper bottom bracket. I have been through two modern cheap "cartridge" type BB's in the past few months, but these have fine threads and the non drive end is a thin walled item. It seems the threads strip or slip and come loose in the frame (the frame threads might not have very tight tolerances). I am looking for an old fashion square taper bottom bracket with cones and loose balls, 128mm long. Or can I use locktight on a threaded bottom bracket? 🤔🙄

Finally I need to get the wheels rebuilt. It has galvanised spokes which are now more rust than steel. The aluminium rims are also tired - the rim brake surfaces are worn and the front rim is a bit distorted where the aluminium hoop was joined. The hubs are decent quality and rather unique so I would like to keep them. So I need 2 off 36 hole aluminium mtb rims, spokes, brass nipples and somebody to put them together. Tubeless compatible rims might be nice, but I currently use tubes + sealant which works well for me, so I am happy for something that is closer to period original. But the wheel project can wait till after the CTCT.

Any advice where I should go shopping for the above?

Or does anybody have surplus items they want to sell?

Nothing needs to be new or modern, nor totally original, on this build. But it will get ridden regularly, so quality and reliability would be appreciated.
