  1. I believe this is the case. You might lose a drop of oil, but generally suppose to be an easy swap.
  2. I think Merida and Silverback are the brands who have rear break on the right. From my knowledge, other brands have it the other way around. This might be a SA thing too, because I've never noticed this on any other bike I've ridden or owned while living in London. For me, right should always be front. Same as motorbikes.
  3. How will it be different if the dog isn't tied up, but on a lead the whole day? I'm definitely not saying the way the dog is treated is correct, but just wondering, how it would be any different. Glad something has been done though...

  5. I use a very thin sun protectors on my arms. They actually keep you cool. So much better than sunblock. I have a spf+ sunblock from the australian cancer council which was great, but just about finished. Will try the island tribe spf50 when I get a new one.

  12. I think the point people are trying to make is regardless of being at a red light or not, the fact is that it is against the law to talk on your phone while being in control of a car. Would you have the same attitude if it was a police officer telling you not to do it (in a dream world maybe....we will be lucky to see a police officer). What is wrong with someone asking another person not to break the law?
  13. Thanks all, I will remove the cable and spray with some wd40, check for kinks and replace. will also check H and L again, particularly H. It shouldn't really be that difficult, but it is driving me nuts...

  16. I am having problems setting the rear derailleur for a new bike. When changing up or down, it would skip one gear, ie, one click would change from 9 to 7 for example. How or where do I need to adjust for the gears not to skip a gear? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. My LHT has a Shimano Tiagra on the front and I use shimano friction shifter for front and rear. I dont use rapid fire, as not necessary for a touring bike. Ive never had any issues with this set up on the front with that set. Good quality wheels and hubs really is very important. Most important though is to have a good wheel builder manually re tension your wheel. Factory built wheels are not the best. All the factory cares about is getting the wheel to run true, normally with no regards to even spoke tension. DTSwiss definitely good for spokes.
  18. Our last tour was 10,000km from Bali to Hong Kong. We used Schwalbe Mondial tyres with fully loaded touring bikes. Between the 2 of us, we only had one puncture each. I really dont think it is necessary to tryband go tubeless with the mondials. We use 26" wheels. You will find it difficult tonget other size tyres if you are outside of europe, USA etc. SE Asia, China and india especially. There are some really good value for money touring bikes around. Dawes, Trek (a relatively new model) and off course Surly. We have Surly LHT with straight bars, and absolutely love them. A solid bike that can carry a good load. The balance on the frame with a load is also very good. Some frames and the geometry of the frame is jot always good for heavy loads. Heavy front and steering can very quickly become an issue with handling and speed wobbles going down hill. We absolutely love touring by bicycle. it is such a unique way to experience a place and you see 100 times more too.

  21. It definitely isn't criticism, just a mere observation form my side.Btw, there are definitely ways to get fit and strong without racing. I hauled a 50kg loaded bike for about 10000km in SE Asia...[emoji12] . That certainly gave me a workout
  22. I have recently moved back to SA after being away for a very long time. One thing I have noticed is that it seems most people don't ride their bikes, but it looks like they racing the whole time. To give you an example, I cycled from Blouberg to the waterfront in Cape Town and back one sunday morning. We had a nice pleasent ride, stopping on the way to have an apple or a quick drink of water, and just enjoying the scenery. Everyone else coming past looked like they were on this mission to get to the end destination as soon as possible, forgetting to actually enjoy where they are. Is this just the general mindest of cyclist here? Maybe im just different, having cycled as a tourer through some countries and cycling as a tourist. Very interesting to see how different it seems here in cape town, or was that just an incorrect observation?
