  1. Been using motorcycle wax lube for a couple of years now. Apply, Let it settle. Wipe down. Last for a really long time. Runs nice and quiet. And shifting performance is good. Rain does not wash it off and it is not a grit magnet. And you're right. Makes cycling specific lube look stupid expensive.
  2. Anyone know where the results are posted?
  3. Ok, so the route is only 88km long??
  4. I lost my Cateye Stealth Evo + cycling computer while going down Friedland Drive (from Sylvia's pass). There is a bump in the road near the Caltex service station. Unfortunately when I hit it the out-front bracket snapped and the comp went for a bit of a flyer. I looked back and saw it bouncing across the road, turned around when safe and went to try and retrieve it. Unfortunately I was not able to find it. If anyone does pick it up I will really appreciate it if you could let me know. I know that the chances are quite slim, being such a busy road with pedestrians, etc. etc. so posting this on the off-chance that someone happens upon it.
  5. Not at all, Myles. In my example of Ferrari, the team is named after the sponsor. However, there is a long and muddied history. We’ll leave that for another day. The point I’m trying to make is that “inclusive” participation for “children” would be in the interests of the sponsor. Although there are teams, the nature of the sport is that it is an individual event, participated by individuals. Another poster mentioned the merits of a point system for the teams, and another for the riders. I would agree that, as a solution, it would be stellar and the schools would benefit from their representation, and individuals will be allowed to grow and shine, regardless of the team they represent.
  6. This is all very interesting. However, the over-riding principal here is that a child is not being allowed to participate. What is the lesson that is being taught? Definitely not one of inclusion. Also, why is the word “school” in “home schooling”? A school is a source of knowledge (https://www.merriam-...ctionary/school). Regarding the title sponsor. There is no issue with following up with a sponsor. Myles Mayhew has pointed out that the sponsor does not set the rules, but he in incorrect in his assessment. Sponsors do not only influence the rules, but also flex the rules to define outcomes. The T20 was all about the money, F1 – money, position, influence. Let’s not forget how long the FIA was “Ferrari International Assistance”. The sponsors are there to market their brands. First and foremost. Spur cannot be seen to be discriminatory in any way. Should they agree with this very obvious discriminatory practice of preventing a child from participating, they may be incentivised to assist the league in updating their rather archaic stance to be more inclusive. After all, they would never deny a child from playing on the slide in their restaurant just because the parents prefer to eat fish .
  7. To damn complicated. Ride the bike. - Feel good, go harder. - Want to chat, chat. - See a hill, do it. - Need coffee, cruise. - Have a friend, help. ~End~
  8. I have a little CAADX. Not quite in the same league as the customer awesomeness in the OPs link, but really, really fun. http://www.cannondale.com/en/USA/Bike/ProductDetail?Id=7323e588-42aa-4c0f-96d1-d5fd5f5cb52d&parentid=undefined
  9. From personal experience, don't get something as basic as this. Honestly, you just scare your wife off. And, if you're thinking of road, get a road bike, or at the very least a hybrid. I know that money is always a contentious issue, so maybe this will make more sense. If you spend a little more on a reputable bike and if she does not like it, you will not loose that much as you can sell it for a fair amount again. However, the Avalanche is like a Fiat Uno as far as what resale value is concerned. You may be lucky enough to get a 3rd of what you paid for it. There is a reasonable amount of decent bikes on the hub under R4k. Factor in the price of a service and (maybe) some new tyres (depending on age) and most will be good to go.
  10. Seems like a bit of a copy of the Giant Propel Advanced disc
  11. Awesome! Thanks. My goal is 85kg. It'll be tough, but is realistic (I think).
  12. Would like to join too. Started cycling 6.5 years ago. Wife wanted to do the 947 and needed a training partner. I was on the verge of self destruction and volunteered to be her training partner. At that stage I weighed in at 140+kg, smoked, etc. etc. I have completed my 6th 947. First one this year on a tandem (with the wife). She has been amazing and stood by me through it all. I'm now in the region of 106+kg having gained a bit over the last while. I have a truckload of excuses, but the crux is that I've slacked off and let myself go. This year I want to focus on getting completing the "lifestyle" bit. I'm not a great cyclist, but I do really enjoy it very much. Fitness is not the best, but that can be worked on too. What I really want from myself this year is to align my actual energy needs with my intake. I believe it is possible, and just requires focus. So, looking forward to your posts, your success and "marginal losses". Will try and motivate where possible and post an update here and there on my own progress. Weight - 106.5 Height - 178cm Age - 44
  13. Can only find a news report (https://krugersdorpnews.co.za/340328/web-cyclist-hijackings-in-the-cradle-on-the-riseprint-cyclist-hijacked-in-cradlenorthsider-be-careful-when-cycling-in-the-cradle/) with an interview with the same insurance company. Odd.
  14. This is a fantastic initiative, but perhaps I can make a few comments or suggestions: 1. It costs money to start a team. The team must be registered as such with CSA. The team must have a founding member list, as well as a charter. This charter must be agreed to by all members that want to join. 2. If you want to have official kit, you will have to do better than the current (unfortunately) rather poorly fitting Anatomic kit. It is great, and I wear mine with pride and will do so again at the 947, but it is not racing kit. You will have to look at FTech or another brand that can provide decent kit. You may want to approach "Animal Friendly" corporations to have their brands appear on the kit and use this as sponsorship to raise funds. 3. Fees. You can use the fees to pay for the administration, team registration, etc. Fees should not be outlandish as it will scare people away. R100-150 per month per member. You could have an option for an additional donation amount. It would make your life simpler if you have a debit order system for this. I already have a monthly contribution going for the NSPCA and my local SPCA, as I'm sure do many. It will just be a change of tact. 4. Sponsorship. This could come out of the fees as well as the additional sponsorship raised from the kit. Corporations can be approached my the club administrator. 5. I realise that this is about the plight of the NSPCA and the desperate need for funds to keep doing the awesome good that you are doing. Perhaps look at it as a long-term approach to actually build a proper cycling team environment with a social cause. To most of us this is a hobby. We already have careers and this takes a significant amount of time, never mind families, houses, etc. Honestly, the concept of being a source for getting sponsorships is a massively time consuming exercise. This is something that would best be pursued by the club administrator. If any member has suggestions or contacts this can be provided to the club administrator. Central administration and consolidation. These are only my opinions.
