  1. Hi All. I am looking at changing my bikes from an Aero frame to something more comfortable as I am doing longer rides and the Aero is starting to feel too hard on my body. I have been looking at the Silverback Sirelli 2 which looks like great value for money but as I am not too clued up with specs can someone share their knowledge and let me know if this is a good buy for +/- R35k ? If not, what else can you suggest in this price range. 2. also using road tubes with sealant in them, has saved me the hassle of changing tubes quite a few times when out training.
  3. I would be interested in a pair of lenses for my racing jackets, or maybe even 2. I have been on this sight before but had the same concerns about SAPO not delivering... as I ordered stuff from Ebay in Dec and still don't have them. Vented Racing Jacket Colours: Polarized Midnight Sun MirrorShield Polarized Fire Red MirrorShield Please send me a PM once you have things finalized.
  4. I'm new to cycling and have done 7 events in the recent months, and just have to add that I've never come across a rude Marshall at any of these events. Yes you may find 1 rotten apple but majority of them are friendly and polite to say the least.
  5. To add to this topic as a newbie also. What would be a decent trainer for about R2k? There's just soo much out there so I really don't know where to start looking.
  6. service is always great from them. Bought some oakleys and got delivery to JHB within 2 days. Hassle free and will definitely purchase again.
  7. Would also like to know about the scalera models. I have been looking at them and component wise they have properly kitted. The wheels looks like decent midrange fulcrum, and at abt 30k it looks like good bang for buck like almost every other silverback out there.
  8. As expected, the m7 got me bad. I took my time up as I didn't know what to expect. Was hoping for about a 4 but ended up at 4:39. Now to come back stronger next year. And the elevation, what's up with that? My strava showed 1300m +
  9. I'm currently on 101kg, 4kg down in the month and working hard on weight loss. Zatek, what cassette would you recommend? Drago, been doing a decent amount of hill training, about 2000m a week but still not where I would like to be, but guess there's no easy way out.
  10. Hi All. Just need some advice please on compact vs standard rings. I have a Merida Reacto 400 equippped with a FSA Gosamer crank 52/36 & Shimano 105 5800 11Spd and 11-28 casette and have have been looking at changing to a compact 50/34 until I am lighter and stronger for the hills. Would changing to the compact make it much easier on the hills vs my current set up ? And if so, where in SA can I find FSA chainrings and what can I expect to pay for a set? Thanks in advance, cheers
  11. the roads leaving JHB are a mess, I have decided to leave early tomorrow. Goodluck to all
  12. Hi Daz. Thanks, joining a club is definitely something I want to do when I move to Dbn so really keen on this. I'm still slow and will drop into the C group For now. Will pop by after the ride. Thanks Martin, starting at yellowwood park might be too far but thanks for the offer.
  13. Anyone know what time the unseeded/last group starts ?
  14. well if its similar then it should be "OK" I guess. I will cruise up at 10km/hr so I can make it up the rest. I really suffer on climbs so just need to make it into Pinetown and I should be ok to complete. I did the EPC in 3:50 with some serious cramping in the last 10km which threw me out by about 20mins as I had to get off the bike. What can I expect on TD ?
  15. Hi All. So i will be moving back to Durban in June and will need to continue to ride through winter, especially in the week. I live in the merewent area and there isn't many cyclist around there... nearest is Bluff and i'm just wondering if theres anyone who ride around there on weekday mornings who I can join ? Nothing serious, 25-35km to start. Thanks in advance.
  16. Scott, Tombeej, CrankShaft. I think you guys have convinced me to enter. Will drive straight to the expo when I arrive in Durban on Saturday. I have put in some decent training this month [500km] and think this is the fittest i've been since my school days so is probably the best time to try it out and push myself further.
  17. I have not entered but considering doing the 105km as I am going to be in durban for a family weekend. Is this a relatively easy race with just the climb up the M7 being the most difficult or are there some sneaky bumps later on?
  18. met Anton through a photography page on FB a few months back then learnt we share similar passions. Then about 2 weeks ago I was hunting around for Gatorskins folds and he was the only LBS that could get stock of them, nonetheless I met him yesterday for the first time and he really is a great guy and very helpful. And best thing he is just 5km from home...
  19. started last October at 106kg, but my eating was really messed up so didnt loose much in the time. late March I changed my eating and have been following since and increased my cycling to about 8 hours a week. Since then I am down 4kg in last 4 weeks, and feel soo much more alive and can feel a difference on the bike already. My goal is to get to under 90kg by August, doing it slow so its easier to maintain
  20. Hi All. I have been searching high and low for Gatorskin 23mm folds. Contacted all the larger bike shops and no one seems to have stock of them. Anyone know where I can get them from now or is there is supply problem from Conti ? Cheers
  21. Is it really just 350m of elevation ? Found a strava profile from last years race which showed like 670m or so. still not a lot over the distance though
  22. doing my first, signed up for the longer ride. Starting at the back in KL, cos i'm overweight and slow... but looking forward to this.
  23. thanks again everyone. Think i'm just going to get the gator skins this weekend.
  24. thanks but no thanks, that's more than 60% the value of my bike...
  25. Thanks, what do you suggest it should be then ?
