  1. I am fine thanks, just a bit sore. Long term injury. Got tonsillitis last week, caused my neck to freeze up, over compensation then aggrevated old nerve, muscle injury. Then in my geniusness I went moering the trails as my bike had been in the shop for a month due to fork rebuild which took ages, and I was missing being on the bike so much that I just endured the pain. More than one broken brain in this story.
  2. Ah so refreshing, ask for help and all you can contribute is a high school like Guns n Roses vs Roxette conversation.
  3. Thanks, nothing too serious but means at least a week off the bike, while on leave ????
  4. So I recently sent my rear brain and shock for a full service at specialized, as usual they simply do a hot swap, replacing the shock and brain with one already serviced off the shelf. Rode twice over the weekend and it was like riding a hard tail, shock compressed no more than 10mm through its travel, no matter where the brain setting was. Took it back to the shop today, the mechanic deflated then reflated the shock and set the sag. When the shock was deflated it moved through it's entire travel. Rode it around the parking lot, over a few pavements etc and the shock is now moving a touch more (30mm) but is very bouncy even when rebound is set on slow. It just doesn't feel right but it is difficult to make a proper assessment in a parking lot. I am used to feeling the brain engage, but I don't feel this at all anymore. The mechs explanation is that they have changed the brains and they no longer make the click feeling, apparently they have introduced some sort of needle valve which eliminates the click feeling, does anybody have more info on this, anyone else experienced this? The deal I had with the mechanic was that I would go klap the trails tomorrow to make a proper assessment. Due to a bizarre turn of events I am now in a neck brace, so that will have to wait. Thought I would try and get more info in the interim. Thanks
  5. My urban dictionary knowledge is not great, I also don't know what FWIW means.....
  6. Hah, me and the missus do the same. In fact we only got married this year, Exactly 20 years to the day after meeting one another. That way I don't need to remember a new date, cunning.
  7. Had a pair for almost 3 years now. Great glasses, really adjustable fit, great lenses, can't really go wrong here.
  8. Replaced my previous specialized shoes with these as I was getting some nasty hot foot. Has defiantly helped with the hot foot, very comfy shoes that I would recommend. Only issue is that the toe box is not as protective as what I was used to with the specialized shoes, if you hit a rock you feel it a bit more.
  9. Urgh, woke up at 04:30 to do sprint session on trainer, just before first sprint I flatted my rear tyre, must be the only person to get a flat on a trainer. Lesson learnt, even Continental inner tubes become unreliable when they are 25 years old.
  10. I sold my Sola 2 for 5k two years back, it was a year old. It was to get a mate into cycling though. It worked, now I have someone to ride with.
  11. Tacx satori is a pretty good deal, new for around 5.5k. Resistance change is manual but it is smart in that it can talk to training apps and shows power, speed and cadence. I just got one last week, setup is a breeze, not too noisy and self powered.
  12. I have a set of wide lightings and I can vouch for them. Two years now, many many rock strikes, one ding in the rear rim but hasn't caused any issues at all. Wheels are still perfectly true and bearings still smooth. The engagement is a bit slow, but you get used to it quickly. The wide rims allow me to run 2.3 tyres at 1.5 bar (I weigh 70), gives maningi grip.
  13. I shall post some more pics after I have cleaned her up.
  14. Look what I got today. Hansom Reynolds 708, full Campagnolo Chorus 8 speed groupset (incl hubs, bb, headset and seat post), cinelli bars and stem, rolls saddle, mavic open 4 CD rims. Even still has 18mm tyres on!
  15. With regard to OP and the Formula brakes, I had a set of the Formula C1s (entry level). They were great brakes and I never had any reliability issues, although not too powerful. Only problem was the pad wear. Went through metallic pads like crazy and they are expensive. Replaced them with XT8000s, the finned metallic pads have so far lasted 4 times longer than the Formula metallic pads, and they still have plenty meat left. Soon the XTs will have paid for themselves and they are super powerful, got PBs on all my tricky descents since I installed them.
