You say you get a wobble with and without braking, but braking makes it worse.
Start by standing over your bike (feet on the floor and your bike between your legs - some people I know don’t understand cycling jargon).
Pull the front brake and then try rock the bike forwards and backwards. If you get movement in the fork/steerer, then chances are your headset is (1) worn, or (2) loose. Get it checked out.
As for the tips on lowering your centre of gravity... drop your chest as low over the bars as possible, to lower the CoG and to put more weight over the front wheel. Try this at slower speeds and gradually ramp the speed up. You’ll find you’ll be able to take corners at higher speeds too.
The tip about leaning on your outside pedal works, but also requires practicing it at slower speeds and building up the speed from there.
Thanks will certainly look at the fork/headset.
Its just strange that getting a speed wobble at that speed, normally on a windy ride get 75km/h and no wobble. What bike is it? How old the tyres? Something not right if wobbling at 50km/h
Canyon Ultimate SLX, tyres Conti 5000 tubeless 28mm
For the average savage that is coffee ride speed
50km may not be super fast but hitting tar at that speed is the problem
What speed does the speed wobble start?
Around 50km/h plus
While science says this should work, I would be damn scared to try it
I can say it is freakishly scary. But lets try the options mentioned
I seem to catch a speed wobble around the same area on a pretty fast decent, the bike goes into a serious wobble, the first time I used brakes to slow down but it actually made it worse so now I try peddle through it. What would be the cause of this and what can I do to stop it from happening. The bike is sized right for me so I am puzzled and pretty scared too.
So I am curious about Gravel bikes, can you set the bike up that you can hang with the regular road bikes on out rides on both the hills and flats?
Had to google Spirgrips, never seen or heard of them. Looks decidedly odd to me......
the comments all make sense, bit hazardous in thick bush as well
Hi, bar ends seemed to be the in thing a couple of years back but now is almost unseen, it did, or at least I thought, offer a bit of play for the rider to alternate posture, why have the dropped off the scene...........?
Hi, I am fortunate enough to have a weeks holiday on Reunion island, has anyone ridden on the island and if so any tips or suggestions on where to ride etc. Will take mountain bikes but more than happy to cruise regular roads for fun if viable?
I've had the same issue. Mavic hubs are easy enough to open up and oil the offending part. But, like others have said, it will eventually wear out.

Thanks Jacquers
Recommendation: dont use Mavic hubs. You can do better for less money: Shimano, Hope, DT, etc
Thanks, will remember for the future
Don't ride it like this, get it fixed. I wrecked my frame with a mavic hub failure, turned out to be expensive.
Thanks for this
That is a regular issue with Mavic Freehub. Caused by the plastic / ceramic insert A small amount of oils or grease will stop the noise for a while but eventually you will have to replace
Not what I was hoping to hear. Thanks none the less.
What free hub do you have? Is this Mavic by any chance.
Its Mavic R-SYS hubs and its pretty new
Hi, when I am on a fast down hill and my racing bike is maxed in terms of speed and I freewheel there is a strange noise emanating from the cluster, then if I continue to pedal then the noise dies. This only happens at higher speeds. Could the bearings be finished? Ho do I fix this?
