  1. Stopped in Wilderness for a coffee which instead of boosting me up the next hill made me lazy and I bonked for the entire 20kms back home - mud and rain did little to help but a decent opening ride for 2019
  2. Mine does this all the time, I hate the thing. Sent it back they told me nothing wrong. I turn it off and charge it - works again for a while but cut of my circulation.
  3. More dust, more wind, more heat - looking forward to getting back home and riding without drying out my eyeballs
  4. Expensive, find one, chat to people here, build one - I bought my frame form ebay but they guy was highly rated and all the other bits from local nago pervs of which there are many and super helpful - total cost, half the price of a new master frame Unless money is no object then get a brand new one - a guy built one in George and I guestimated his cost in excess of 100k - new frame is 35 and he went to town with the rest
  5. Accidents can happen but what I never understand is how someone can leave their fellow human lying on the road. Probably fear due to having no license, being over the limit Etc Hope you dad heals fast
  6. Corrugations, wind and dust - riding for Christmas beer between Cape st Francis and Oyster bay
  7. Little shop at Wilderness heights where I enjoyed a rare ice cold coke on a hot day
  8. From Wilderness, up whites road, smooth gravel perfect on my 26c - at the top turn left on seven passes road to George, newly tarred - at the end of road turn around a go back - 45km very safe, little traffic, plenty hills - add outeniqua pass big shoulder not too stressful + 40km From wilderness go to N2 and after head towards sedge - after 3 km take hoekwil turnoff and climb serpentine on brand new tar with small shoulder - ride till tar runs out 22.5km turn back 45km First paragraph super safe till George then pretty safe Second option safe
  9. yes, TT world champ only, I should have specified
  10. Wiggins also has 5 olympic gold medals and 3 others, 1 road world champs, 7 world track champs gold and 5 others - Not that Froomes record is cr@p. Wiggins just crossed over quite and bit and at the time I don't suppose anyone thought another Brit would grab a few more TDF's, a giro and a Vuelta
  11. Very loosely connected to my original thread - in my weight weenie madness I ended up with a lot of spare parts. Basically the parts I had in a box for the Open project before the insanity took control. I bought this frame super cheap on the hub and had it resprayed and repaired by carbon bicycle repairs in Durbanville once again - They also fixed the wheels purchased on the hub (never buy wheels without inspecting them) The stem and bars need sorting but I will set it up properly after I take it for a ride tomorrow I have never ridden a Lauf fork so that will be interesting too
  12. In the UK the TV rights worldwide trickle all the way down the leagues - if a premiership team gets relegated, they get a balloon payment for 3 years I think - so if a World tour team went down a level, they'd be able to fund their riders at Continental level for a while. But you can't really compare the sports because outside of the Grand Tours, most non cyclists have zero interest and difficult to fund a season based on 3 tours. So much is made from merchandising in football too. So many people who don't kick a ball wear football gear. So another way for teams to possibly earn revenue is to get non cyclists into product - like people who didn't surf used to buy surfwear.
  13. lesser known either way - this middle one, shew!
  14. 2875 per month is fine regardless of the extra you will pay in the long run - that is as long as you have secure income and you can afford that within your monthly budget. Not everyone can afford the new bike of their dreams cash - it's not ideal to finance a bike but if you budget nicely it beats waiting 3 years to get a new bike of your dreams. That said, 40k buys you a really nice secondhand bike in just over a year if you put that money aside
  15. I have a big head and I'm sure I could have the internals redone - PM me if you want to sell it please
  16. not so much where my bike took me as where I took my bike - I have a cottage in Cape St Francis and last time I came up alone I placed some "decor" without consultation. My better half is not a fan of cycling but somehow I got away with this
  17. Sorry to bring sad news first thing but Philip passed away in the early hours of this morning
  18. I like how BA ended any hub discussion this morning but then carried on......how to win friends.......
  19. You go on holiday 20kms away from home? - Convenient if you forget your toothbrush
  20. Rather your bum than mine, congrats on dropping the "fat"
  21. Again, day old info and really bad and sad news I'm afraid - Philip was on oxygen and morphine only yesterday. Brain damage apparently too severe for any normal function - the doctors did not expect too many further hours of life as of yesterday afternoon. Family obviously devastated. I will update if I hear any news today.
