  1. We use mywoosh because...... Free

Download some youtubes. Tee them up and off you go. I download cos the bandwidth is less than optimal in my garage where the trainer is. There's a tv in there and the laptop gets set up next to the tv. Youtubes on the TV

My wife puts a music playlist on her phone.

  2. The choice between renting or own bike is highly personal and very dependent on riding time, convenience and of course budget. My wife and I have done 3 roadie trips to Europe.
    Morzine France - Own bikes

Monte Grappa Italy - Own bikes

    Mallorca Spain - Rentals

Mallorca was a revelation. We'll never take our own road bikes again. The convenience of not having to lug massive bike boxes around and just showing up at the shop with pedals and a saddle made is so worthwhile for us. We took our measurements along and the shop was happy to set the bikes up to our requirements. Also no stressing whether your bike will actually show up and the condition it will be in when you get there.

Not taking our own bikes also allowed us to spend 2 days in Paris on the way back. I can't imagine lugging 2 bike boxes from Orly airport through the Paris metro to get to our accommodation and then from there to CDG on the way out. Nightmare!

Not taking your own bike also allows you to make use of more direct routings on airlines that would normally charge you a kings ransom to fly your bike rather than routing via Dubai, Qatar, Abu Dhabi.

    My thoughts. Rent.

Mountain bike trip to the Alps you take your own bike coz there you have personal setups around suspension.

** Just some advice on the riding itself. If you're planning to ride for say 5 days. PROPERLY plan 7-9 routes that you want to ride and get them onto your gps. Plan to do your hard or highlight ride early before you are worn out and tired. Also if weather is a factor you can then plan around that too.

If you're going with wifey and you're hitting a hard day make sure she understands EXACTLY how much vert and km's she is going to be doing. You don't want to be 3/4 of the way up Monte Grappa when she decides it's time to go home. Been there!

NOTHING comes remotely close to feeling the sting of the spray as you exit the barrel in the midst of the blow-out. Billabong coined it when they said "Only a surfer knows the feeling".

If you've experienced how time slows down inside a tube then you know, and you are part of a very select few lucky people on earth. For the rest, they will forever be chasing something they don't know they need.

Funny thing is that those over excited sunday morning hardcore superbike riders, once they are at Killarney, they ride like scared puppies

You can see and hear that they can't ride coz of the way they change lines through the corners and the acceleration, deceleration through the corners. (Not claiming to be a hidden Valentino)

And to be fair - those that know their bikes, a Hyosung GT650R is at best a spirited commuter bike. It's hardly a bike that only comes alive at 180kph.

THAAT's what it is. I was going to say it looks like a Suzuki SV 650. Most certainly not a superbike.

  6. General comment.

This time of year SUCKS on the roads as a cyclist. After Argus. Heaven.

As a former owner of a superbike. Chappies is a K@K road on those bikes. It's too tight and the corners tighten up on themselves so you're always on the brakes and never using the bike. It's also over so quickly. I can't understand why guys on superbikes want to ride on it. Hopefully the guy that was hit is going to be ok.

I have to say Twatter really does bring out the worst in people. WOW! But in a really bad way.

Anyone cycling with a firearm is looking for $h!T

As much as it galls me to agree with this point I do. Somewhat.

If you apply the OODA loop to a bikejacking scenario the crim is WELL ahead of you by the time you are even aware of the threat. They've observed, orientated, decided and they are busy acting. It's unlikely that you are going to be able to deploy a firearm in time to ward off the attack. In a home invasion scenario hopefully your alarm is on and your doors are locked which will give you a few seconds to catch up.

Add to that the fact that you can only legally use a firearm in self defense if your LIFE is threatened. Maybe you could argue that having a brick thrown at you is life threatening. I don't know.

Concealment is also an issue. Our law states that you must conceal your firearm. Riding with a firearm with a visible silhouette is probably illegal and could possibly make you a target. Riding with it in a backpack is a waste of time IMO.

I'm a Reservists at SAPS HBay, and was one of the officers that recovered the bike. We got lucky because they where moving it to sell it, after have kept it hidden since the incident.

Thanks for your dedication. My daughter and I helped the young lady on scene and took her home. I decided I was gonna be rambo and trail the perp into IY with my trailing dog. My dog took scent from the cyclist and headed in the direction he went. I got 30m in there. Shat myself and turned around. I won't be doing that again.

It looks like the attack happened 100m from SAPS Hout Bay Police Station????

Some good news to this story.

The bike was recovered yesterday by SAPS and a suspect arrested. From what I understand it's not the actual perp but a middle man/trader. I made contact with the cyclist involved and she in turn got hold of SAPS.

@Duane_Bosch post above clears up the location etc. Thanks to him for helping her out and thinking better of going into IY alone!

The little circle is where the attack happened. The arrows are the route the perp took into IY. The arrows end where I came to my senses and realized I was unarmed with no flankers headed for ****.

To re iterate. Don't ride past IY under any circumstances. Rather go Empire and onto Valley road. from my understanding there have been at least 3 incidence of this nature on that stretch of road in the last 2 days.

It's literally 50m from a police station and there are cctv cams covering that bit of road. These okes don't give a funk

A top level female cyclist was attacked in Hout Bay yesterday and left unconscious next to the roadway, MO sounded exactly the same as above. I believe she is okay, injury wise. The perps stole a Trek Checkpoint and all accessories.  I am not sure of the exact location or time but assume for now it was the same area. Be very careful out there folks.

My step daughter and I helped her and took her home. She was most likely concust. Her boyfriend took her to the hospital. Like an idiot I took my dog out  (he's a mantrailing dog) and decided to trail into IY. I got about 30m in and decided I'm not going to have my dog killed for a bicycle. The incident happened at about 9.15 opposite IY on the graveyard side.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CYCLE PAST IY. They ARE waiting for you. it IS coordinated and the police are USELESS!!

We have one of these in shop today.... Looks pretty good. Guy testing it says quite a bit down on HP, suspension not bad, same as Showa. price is quite a bit lower than other rally bikes.

Those certainly look the part but all of the reviews I've watched on the youtubes complained about it being down on power compared to what you'd expect from a "normal" 450.

But if the pricing is good and you know what you're getting into then it's all good. They really look the business to me.

  13. I can't see him joining Norco as the current rumor mill suggests. I don't see a brand like that having the budget for a rider of his stature. He's a Fox and shimano guy and Norco run SRAM. If anything that team looks to be scaling back not putting big money into a guy like GM.

Plus he's intimately involved with the SC brand here in SA. He's recently married and he REALLY has nothing more to prove.

I reckon we'll see a retirement announcement with side projects announced soon.

@capediver and I bumped into him in Morzine. Just rolling through town like a regular dude. He'd heard about the Saffers getting rowdy the night before at Robbo's. That was a great night that I can't remember.

The problem is how to employ this tech on a mountain that is basically accessable from anywhere and everywhere.

There are motion and thermal cams around the high end suburbs in HB and Caanstaahnsha. I'm sure it's the same in the city. When these are tripped stuff starts to happen.

But the baddies aren't stupid. They send people who aren't part of their direct crew to test the cams coz they aren't always operational. There was a home invasion recently close to where I live and the bad guys KNEW that 2 cams were down and they simply walked past them. No fks given.

Sanparks wouldn't bother with adding any real value tho. They are the literal definition of useless.

I think that's a sound approach but, IIRC, the guy who pepper sprayed bikejackers in Pta East recently got shot three times for his efforts...that's the outcome that really sucks.

Ja no doubt a gun changes the conversation.
