That's still not enough. There's not enough money in the world that would get me to ride that evil monster. Let alone race. Hayden Rossi Capirossi Bayliss How many World Champions has that thing ruined?
  2. I've got the same setup. I reckon you'll save about 500-700 grams. You're losing the front derailleur, shifter, chain guide and a front chainring. I run a 1x10 setup with a 42 out back. My front ring is a 30. It works fine for me coz I hate riding uphill and that gets me to the top of most trails just faster than falling over speed. It can spin out on fast descents. But if I want to go fast downhill I have a DH bike for that. I have a 36 that I sometimes swop out to if I know I'm not going to be doing much climbing. So short story. 30 works for me but might not work for you. The whole 1x thing is NOT a one size fits all thing AT ALL! You need to factor in the type of riding you do and the type of riding you'd like to focus on. And most importantly how strong you are. You'll be miserable pushing a hard gear if you aren't strong enough making you hate the bike. Don't listen to the geniuses who tell you to HTFU.
  3. Ja. It's pretty much a race against time now. Hopefully there's plenty of rain before his departure.
  4. But But... If it didn't happen on the hub it didn't happen.
  5. 400m+ at Steilte. BOOM! Edit: I've been begging Jan & Duran to build a Zore Tutti Fruiti style flow/jump trail and Last Week it looks like they've started. It's hard to tell from the pics but the berms in picture are about 1.5m high and flow into a steep section where there will be jumps and step downs. Jan is also planning on continuing the current "black" dh trail down to the kiosk. He and duran have scoped out some proper gnar with granite rocks. It sort of fades into a vlou/flow trail currently
  6. Oh ok. Then yeah. Zee is the bomb. @ the OP. I run a Zee shifter with an SLX long cage derailleur on my Trail bike with a 1x10 and 42 big ring out back if that's any help.
  7. They have a wide rage and a narrow range option. kind of like short cage and long cage but the derailleurs are visually identical. If you're running 1x10 with a 42 out back i'd not get a Zee as the max it can go up to is 36. Having said that I've run zee with a 38 out back. I did however have issues with the derailleur crawling up the cassette when back pedalling. (Could have been bad setup) For me shifter feel on SRAM is better. (Yes even Saint)
  8. What he said. The Saint has quite a neat double bump system that allows you to grab 2 gears when downshifting. It's taken me a while to get used to it but i like it.
  9. Oh yes. This is the ultimate not what you know but who you know event.
  10. Unfortunately there are no "bike parks" as such in SA. The only lift access biking is in Lesotho and It's a T bar with 120m of vert. Trust me you'll be dissapointed. In the Western Cape we've got Helderberg which has some really fun stuff and the closest (IMO) to a proper bike park with multiple lines, proper jumps and real vert. There's also Paarl and Cascades. All shuttle friendly but Helderberg gets my vote for the best gravity trails in the Western Cape. Oh and the views are ridiculous too.
  11. We did our Shuttle day at Steilte yesterday with 11 dudes. Well.. We had 1 blown out brake hose and a dislocated shoulder. But Damn it was fun. The weather was perfect and the trails were ridiculous. Pieter Henning and Dominic Takkas did 10 runs top to bottom. That's over 4km of Vert. That's Alpine territory. Steilte is sooooooooooo good right now. There are so many options. Which brings me to my next thought. I'm gonna try set up a mates race/enduro there. Vehicle assisted. So no lung busting climbs3 runs top to kiosk3 different tracksInvite only30 peeps.Any "profits" go straight back into the trails.Thoughts?
  12. The lift in Lesotho is... Um... Er..... Gulp...... Not as rad as Les Gets.
  13. The track is going to be called Zoar. A small homage to Zore in Morzine.
  14. 5. Luck has nothing to do with it. Once you make the decision things start falling into place.
  15. Wayne Schell Martin Lombardie Martin Prest That's all I know. Duran will be squatting in the Carrefour parking lot again
  16. Is anyone on here looking to do a Morzine trip this year? We won't be going this year but there is a group from CT going towards the end of July/Beginning of August. These types of trips are always more fun with a group. I can't recommend this trip highly enough. You'll ride in 6 of the best bikeparks in Europe. See stunning scenery. Make lifelong friends and improve your riding a ridiculous amount.
  17. I'm on 1295. For what it's worth. I don't understand the points system. I thought they'd use UCI points which would have put me on 500 odd.
  18. Yeah the Boxxer axle is a bit of an odd one coz there is no pinch bolt system like you get on a 888 or Fox 40. The "pinch bolt" is built into the axle and I assume that's what broke. They do go tho so yeah. I'd take the LBS up on their offer or try source on from that FB page. They tend to last a bit better than Fox 40 axles which are made of margarine.
  19. Ooooh. Yeah. That's a k@k system IMO. Broken one myself. Send an SOS on the Mountainbikers do it downhill FB page. Someone is sure to have one.
