  1. I read that the new Dura Ace 7900 cassette, chain and chain rings are not compatible with other Shimano 10speeds (Dura Ace 7800, Ultegra and 105). Something to do with the new design of the chain.
  2. Considering the 2009 prices, it seems a real bargain. You could always upgrade the parts later. I'm sure that the frame alone would probably cost you about R10 000.00.
  3. Didn't know that there was a local version. Havn't seen them anywhereEugene2009-02-03 00:16:18
  4. I'm not very technically minded, but logic will tell me that a stem is relatively short and fat, therefore its ability to flex (and consequently absorb vibrations) is minimal, irrespective of the material it is made from. I also believe that although carbon probably does give better shock absortion than aluminium, the difference is so minimal that no human will be able to feel the difference. The only reason I would put a carbon stem or bar on my bike is because it looks cool.
  5. I took an old mount from a rear light and drilled 2 small holes in it. I removed the mounting device from the head light and screwed the head light on to the old mount (into the holes I had drilled). It worked perfectly. Just make sure you have a piece of rubber or something inside the mount so that the back of the screws do not damage your bar tape.
  6. When I used to race R/C cars, they recommended a thin film of wood glue to stick decals to our cars. It apparantly dries clear. Never tried it myself, but I stress, a very thin film.
  7. Exact same thing happened to my Shimano RS10 wheels. Looks as if the spokes are about to pull right out of the rim. JB believed that it was the only the anodising that cracked and it was unlikely that the wheel itself was damaged. I can't say if it is the same with yours. I'm not very technically minded. Cool Heat replaced the wheel for me, no questions asked.Eugene2009-01-16 00:55:08
  8. Jeez, that is a good time. You shouldn't be buying her a Pilot with times like that, but rather something with a better race geometry, like a Madone. The Pilot is a much more relaxed, upright position, more for comfort than speed. Having said that, R15000 is a damn good price for full carbon and Ultegra.
  9. Has anybody seen the 2009 price list on the Raleigh website. I was horrified. Some models have gone up by almost 70%. I know there were huge increases in store for us in 2009, but jeez, this is rediculous. Are these prices indicative of the whole market or has Probike just gone over-board with their increases? Have other brands shown similar increases. A Raleigh RC2000 is going for R9 500.00. The RC6000 Aluminium is a whopping R18 000 odd.
  10. The units almost never fail as the battery goes flat. The display just gets dimmer and dimmer until it disappears.
  11. Wait until you turn and your foot gets stuck behind the wheel and you can't staighten out your steering. It happens with almost all bikes.
  12. They are in Cape Town, but they posted it to me. I think the postage was only R25.00 and I received it the following day. Really good service, I must say.
  13. "What happened to you last night Eugene? We had an awesome ride. " Sorry, I did PM DT, unfortunately I teach gym classes most evenings and cannot make it. My riding is restricted to early mornings/weekends. With the holidays coming up, I will have a lot of my classes cancelled and will be able to make it then.
  14. These bikes are no longer on the market, but a similar specced bike (with 10sp 105) would sell for R10 000-R12000. I've seen a number of those Omegas with 105 9sp for R3500 to R4500. Yours looks in pretty good condition.
  15. I bought a Sigma PC15 from CWCycles (the same they are giving away free) for R300.00. It does a perfect job.
  16. Hey Eugene will PM you next week as I am sure we will go and ride it again it is just such a nice ride or as Muxie says stand around. Riding along the Railway line to Lady's Slipper tomorrow at 6am if you want to join us. Starting at the Vet at the bottom of Kragga Kamma opposite the Spar. Bunch of Bullets so don't expect us to be setting a hot pace. We are not wannabee racers so will also be making the odd stop/stand around. Just a bunch who like to get out on their bikes Anybody welcome to join in. Thanks for the invite, but only got your message on Saturday morning. I still havn't figured out how to log on to the Hub at home and therefore cannot send messages. I would like to take up your invite again sometime. Thanks
  17. Ignor my blank post above. I tried to reply from my cell phone. Where exactly does this trail start? I'm always looking for routes around PE. Is there a lot of sand?
  18. How can you hate or love a person you have never met? I am not really a fan of his, but I admire what he has done and his achievments.
  19. You can probably pick up a 2008 version brand new for a few hundred Rands more. Most shops are discounting their 2008 stock in anticipation of the 2009 arivals. Check out the Raleigh Breakaway Deal link on this website. If I remember, they are selling for R5 800 or something.
  20. I have, on 2 occassions posted something similar in the past and I was shot down from all quarters. often these negative remarks can totally ruin a guy's sale. There is nothing more annoying when somebody advertises a product, then some hubber comes along and says the product is too expensive. Even when there is genuine interest from someone else. If a hubber really needs to offer guidance to a seller, then at least send a PM.
  21. That's what cell phones are for. My work allows 1 hour of private internet access per day. If I run out, I simply log on to the Hub with my cell phone. Most cell phones have internet access. I downloaded a very nice program called Mini Opera and it makes surfing the net so much easier.
  22. In 2008 Raleigh bikes were way over priced. These reductions have brought their prices in line with other 2008 brands. The RC6000 Alloy is listed at R9 800.00. Cyclopro in PE and Action Cycles are selling the RC6000 Carbon for R9 999.00. That is a bargain. Considering the huge expected increased for 2009, those bikes might just be a good buy.
  23. Yes........I've seen a few of them, mostly the more entry level ones. I was told by one of the managers at Silverback that the 2009 road range will only get to the shops in Jan/Feb 09. They are only going to start assembly towards the end of this year.
  24. Very good bikes and very good value for money. The prices that you have quoted must surely be on the 2009 range, which, to my knowledge, are not yet in the shops. I'm sure you will pick up 2008 versions at much cheaper prices. I've seen the Ultegra version selling at two different shops at R17 500.00. Shop arround, you will pick up an unsold 2008 model much cheaper.

    One HOT bike

That's what Bicycling said about 3 years ago, yet, most of the top riders on our local circuit as well as those international guys we see on TV are all riding hard tails. Maybe they just like to ride vintage bikes
