    The Munga 2023

1 week to munga grit tankwa
  2. I didn't expect my disco coastal core to help at all but they paid for it using some checkup benefit offered with surplus funds after pandemic which was a bonus. I wasn't given a general anaesthetic but the doc did say he likes to use a heavy hand with the tranqs. Apparently my colon is a healthy well perfused pink which I would never have said given what happens in a porta potty after a cortado waiting for some race to start. Maybe you can ask him to pour you a double when administering the cocktail
  3. I woke up with it all over and my dr continuing a conversation I'd had with him about my club cricket career (he played for zim years back) that I had no recollection of. Couldn't tell you what happened between lying down and standing up.
  4. Worth it imo. Not pleasant, a little expensive but I found it quite reassuring. Women it's mammograms and yearly pap smears
  5. Yup. If you 40 have a full cardiac workup. At 50 a colonoscopy and gastroscopy. Annual PSA and digital prostate exams. Next on my list is the dermatologist.
  6. I'm amazed at how many of us are willing to ride the r27. Yes the yellow lane is wide but very often when driving that road I find myself shaking my head at a vehicle in that yellow lane on a blind ride as 110kmph getting out of the way of some Muppet doing 130 or 140 who's overtaking. A cyclist on the other side of that rise doing 30kmph does not stand a chance. I've ridden it once. Was harrowing. Won't do it again.
  7. Porta potty's aplenty and make sure they got bogroll in them. There is nothing worse than standing in a line needing the morning ablute with 10 mins to start, disrobing in the Tupperware, dropping the bib shorts and then there's no paper. Take away my medal, misdirect me on the route, don't have enough baby spuds at waterpoint three but the ablutions is a dealbreaker. Echo the stuff around a nice trinket, magnet or something instead of medal GPX route before time is nice
  8. Looks like a LOT of fun - competes with 36one (already entered) for the weekend away / cycling race dollar) which is the following weekend - IT's a 2 and a half hour drive if as @Jbris suggesting is driveable with a 4:30am departure time from CT to avoid accommodation costs but then it's 5 hours in the car for 6 and a half hours of mamil mooching ...... Also thinking about it. I do however sense there's a point at which those around me will mount an intervention to deal with my obsessive race entering.
  9. Some of you mamils make this mamil look skinny #justsaying

  11. I avoid the R27 like the plague - feels like a death trap imho - not enjoyable at all If your road bike is gravel capable there are much safer options.
  12. Male 55yrs 92kg 1.91 61 road bike (my legs are disproportionately long) XL MTB Size 12. 1/2 shoe Large ears Extremely long toes all other metrics available on request (T and C's apply)
  13. Very enjoyable event with a relaxed and friendly vibe. Made a mamil montage. https://youtu.be/VYAIJasOlEU?si=nXmnv-Y-WKldfHB7
  14. What is it worth, then, this insane last phase When everything about you goes downhill? This much: you get to see the cosmos blaze And feel its grandeur, even against your will, As it reminds you, just by being there, That it is here we live or else nowhere. Clive James
  15. This is the answer. In my case it is under activation of the glutes. Exercises to activate the lazy ass and physio.
  16. Sounds like an offer to tow the field to me!!

    The Classics

At the risk of being labelled a dirty old man I confess to being a little bit in love with Demi Vollering -
  18. It's got elements of the altruists vs cheaters problem in public good games that the game theorists have played with in a variety of experimental contexts - I'm in two minds about it - on the one hand if you wanna cheat go for it, on the other hand it damages the collective trust in the system.
  19. Rude of him not to thank you for offering help for sure but I do support the request to see your pass. I forgot my board at home a while back, snapsacnned a day pass despite the dodgy reception and got asked for my pass ... Presented it with pride!
  20. For those of us who like a big endurance slog the conties, hoogekraal - faircape loop is a proper 55 odd km XC marathon. Throw in Hillcrest and it adds another tough climbing element
  21. Holy **** that's frightful. What kind of nightmare is this? So sorry to hear of this and relieved you are ok. This is getting worse it seems and I doubt will ever improve.
  22. I find these crashes traumatic to watch. Wva, Ving, vine and and on ... The racing seems so hectically dangerous, more than other sports our heroes and champions suffer such frequent and horrible injuries.
  23. Ja they are really tough. Remarkably accurate too. I get dropped more or less where I would be dropped IRL and I finish pretty much where I would expect to finish in a PPA group B fun ride.
