In the spirit of it being Friday and all, I made contact with this seller the moment he listed his bike for sale:
    https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/602619/26-orbea-occam-mountain-bike

I said to him that I believe his price had one too many 0's, as I honestly believed it to be a typo (Original listing price: R30 000.00) He replied and said that he does not know why the price needs any adjustment as the bike is in great condition and there's nothing wrong with its performance.

And here I thought I was pointing out a typo only to have struck a hornets nest

So Mr @DamienB I apologise for believing your bike to be of lesser value than what you rate it to be. So in the spirit of Ubuntu and Democracy and all other warm and fuzzy kumba ya movements I have decided to create this thread so that other folks can also weigh in on what they believe the value of your bike is.

That's your opinion. Why do you value your own input so much?

WTF has Ubuntu and democracy got to do with this?

You know what I think the problem is, two or possibly even three fold. really:

    1. Some mechs working at bike shops, not all of them, are just there for the pay cheque, they've never really cycled as a past time / hobby and have no regard for other peoples safety. To them it is just that - work. So if someone brings in a bike the goal is to get it out the door ASAP. This is a cultural thing.
    2. They do not have the technical knowledge to understand the impact of a half ass job. I mean just imagine you take your bike in for a major service and a part comes off at high speed. Who's going to take responsibility for those expenses / pain caused to the user?
    3. If you only have a hammer in your toolbox then everything becomes a nail 😁.

Then Sam at Northcliff Cycles has to rate as one of the best mechanics around.

He always listens, looks and then does a bloody good job.

Take your bike to him for top quality workmanship

  3. Hi guys.

I found a flashing rear light at the top of the fence line near Marks Park last night at Emmarentia Dam.

If anyone got home to realize that their light was missing, I have it with me.

Send me a message and we can arrange to meet somewhere.

Anybody had any experience with Zimbabwean scammers.

Had about 3 different Zimbabwean numbers try send a driver to pick up bikes from me, when I said cash on Collection it became a big inconvenience.

A Lady named Vivian contacted me today and a guy named Clayton contacted me last week. All Zimbabwean numbers.

    Let me know guys

    I've had the same thing.

Messages from 3 different numbers. I told him I'll drop it off at the station when the funds have cleared

As far as I know they don't make 150mm rotors. But that's besides the point. You should be able to mount them the same way your previous brakes were mounted, including any spacers/adapters that they used.

For reference, a few months ago I went from the XT M8000 2-pot brakes to the M8100 4-pot brakes and just mounted them using exactly the same spacers/adapters (or lack thereof).

Just a quick question? I had someone asking after a set of those XT brakes.

    Did you sell them yet?

Hi guys. I’m an absolute noob when it comes to bikes with skinny wheels, but I have decided to give the June half iron man a go, and see how I feel about this whole triathlon thing. So I need to start shopping for a road bike. But I want to buy something relatively cheap, from the classifieds, but I have no idea what sizes to put into the search bar.

I have always ridden and felt more comfortable on Large frame MTBs, even thought I am borderline between L and M according to most brands sizing.

I am 1.78 but have relatively long legs, and that is probably why I prefer large MTBs. So what is the comparable size range in Road Bikes, and how specific is the sizing. can i look 1 cm up or down, and then make up the difference with seat position and stem length or doesn’t it work that way on road bikes. The simple fact that there are so many very specific frame sizes, makes me think it is pretty important to get it just right. Compared to the generic S-M-L-XL gaps with MTBs

    Looking forward to advice/pointers.

I feel dirty going to a bike shop and getting measured up, even if I know I’m not even remotely considering buying from them…

    Where you based?

Midpackers don’t feel pressure. I’ll probably ride with the mate until one of us blows up 🤣🤣🤣

@jcza I thought you and Prawn were riding together?

I've never reset any of my devices, I just assumed the unit would deleted the older files in order to make room for the new ones?

It gets bogged down and takes longer to boot etc when it fills up

It denotes the barometric pressure needed to engage full travel necessary while engaged in a low compression setup while only using 3 clicks for rampage towards vector. That’s if you’ve cleaned your seals regularly.

Had you been dopping before you typed this nonsense?

  10. You need to connect it to your pc and delete a few of the log files and update the firmware.

Whilst you're at it, you can edit the startup file and include your name and number there, so that if you lose it, your contact details will be there for the finder

Thanks, it (HRM-TRI) just doesn’t work, period.

I do have my old strap from the 310XT, but needs a new strap (elastic).

Am thinking of getting the Polar H10 for the HRV readings.

I find them not to last at all. I'm on my 3rd strap and HRM in 3 years. My Garmin 520 is still perfect, but the straps are really shittty. I took it to Garmin HQ and they replaced the battery that I had already replaced, but to no avail. Ended up buying another unit

Turned my first Titan MTB into a SS for SS Champs - did not expect it to become my go-to bike for weekday, 40k, rides. Love it so much, started a new build on a GT Zaskar frame with a Niner rigid fork. Hope to finish this week - holiday bike.

I took my GT SS to Northcliff Cycles today to get finished off with trimming brake hoses etc.

Things took quite a bit longer than expected,  but was super impressed again by their service and the fact that Sam and Alex worked overtime to get me sorted.

    Thank you Northcliff Cycles.

Pics will be posted tomorrow of the completed SS project

Carbon Bike Repairs will probably give you the best cost effective result for straight forward resprays, but are good for a bit more. Service also good.

    http://www.carbonbicyclerepairs.co.za/#contact

But if you want a real unique work of art, then Jared at BMC in Salt River / Woodstock

    http://www.bicyclerepairs.co.za/contact-us/

    or Anton at Bosgus Design

    https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/bogusdesigns/?hl=en

Cost effective and CBR do not belong in the same sentence.

What he is needing is a panel beater or someone that will just do a cheap gloss coating. No work of art required.
