  1. Hi guys, as i dont know much about mtb i weas wondering if this is a ok deal. i know its not a disc brake and not a 29er etc, but as a starter bike just so i can get out thewre with my son's while i save for a proper bike what do you guys think? the owner works with me and wants R750 for it. i think its ok but hten again i dont really know what all to look for in a mtb as i'm normally a roadie. apparently its a 21speed and changes gears on the handle grip(which i dont know if this is a good thing or not as i'm starting out) advice appreciated. %5Burl=http%3A//s1252.photobucket.com/user/ScottRSA/media/Bike1.jpg.html%5D
  2. Since my HT was stolen a few months ago I have been doing some research and shopping for a replacement FS. Because I am doing the Cape Epic next year, I assume a FS would be the better option. My budget allows something in the 35k-45k region, thus I am looking at a Scott Spark 910 as a good option. The only problem is not one of the bike shops I have visited seems to have a LARGE in stock, waiting for new stock will take a while with a huge price increase. Does anybody know of a shop that may have one in stock, or have a suggestion for another brand in the same price/spec region? Thanks Edit: Meant to post in Buyers Guide...concentrate.....
  3. Hey Guys Had a house breakin just before this long weekend one of the items stolen was my bike please keep a lookout . Scott CR1 2013 Team Edition green/ black White bottle holders Black selle Italia saddle Michelin pro4 tyres and Shimano rs10 wheels Thanks
  4. Hi, I have a scott foil 15 with ultegra Di2(electronic) groupset Have a rotor power crank on... but cant get the front deraileur settings right. Chain either falls off... or when adjusted struggles to switch to the big blade. It was perfect on the original Ultegra cranks. FSA chainrings on at the moment... Any suggestions other than put the ultegra crank back?

  6. Hi, I want to replace my Scott Spark Elite 29er Pivot Bearings, anyone done it and can give some advice? Thanks
  7. So I bought a new Scott last week and rode it in the burger this weekend. I think I rode it a bit too hard and have subsequently SLIGHTLY bent my rim. My question is that apparently you can get the rim forged back into perfect condition, in my mind I'm thinking the rim is already weak from the bend now its going to be made even weaker from the forge? Is it worth the time and money Just to reiterate this is a very slight bend, I just know it was perfect and now that its not I'd like sort it out before it gets worse Thanks
  8. I have a scott 950 See geometry here. http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/products/227691/scott-spark-950-bike/ It has a bb that can be adjusted. Can i just buy a 650b wheelset ( 27.5) and hot swap as and when i feel going between the two sizes? See scotts 27.5 geometry here. http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/products/227721007/bike-genius-740-m/
  9. Good Day All, i'm looking at new tires for my 29er Rigid and my 29er Scott scale. i'm Currently running cross marks. was thinking of changing to either the mountain kings or the x king in the front and race king back. any thoughts?
  10. Noob question. How much of a difference is there between manufacturer brakes and branded brakes such as 105, Ultegra etc? Reason for asking, is that I am upgrading from my really cheap and old Giant OCR3 to a Scott Speedster. The Scott comes with Scott branded brakes. I have seen a few 105 calipers for sale, and was wondering if there is any major difference to be had from the change (PS I dont car about the name that I am riding, or have on my bike). Also, there are Tektro calipers on my Giant currently. Are these better than the Scott branded calipers?
  11. I would like some intelligent input. I am contemplating putting white tyres on my road bike. Currently has black conti's which need to be replaced. Was originally going to put blue but came across white on the interwebs. Has anyone ridden white tyres? Do they get badly discoloured from dirt? DO they end up looking ugly. Bike is a blue black and white scott speedster s30.
  12. Has anybody heard of Pacific Health and BRL? Received samples the other day and must say really impressed. I tried their Gel and Recover Bar.....did some research and came across a piece where they compared Pacific Health's Gel to GU and results showed an increase of 13% on endurance and 50% reduced damage on muscle post workout, main reason being that it is not a carb only Gel but protein based as well. It is backed by Dave Scott (6 time Ironman World Champ) and Leanda Cave World Champ Ironman Women's. http://www.pacifichealthlabs.com/ I have been on BRL's EPO Boost for almost 3 weeks now tell you what, compared to some other VO2 products, this actually works, it has Echinacea in it, which based on research is the main and key ingredient that boosts EPO and VO2 levels, none of the other products had this, which does not surprise me at all given the turn of events over the past few months..... http://brlsports.com/ I know there are lots of products out there but it really is great to see some of the premium endurance brands coming to SA..... Happy riding....
  13. Im in the market for my second bike, want to move to 29ers. And struggling to choose. Any advice? Ive narrowed it down to Scott Scale 940 and Specialised Carve Pro, The Scott has better components, but people rave about the Specialized frames. Would be cool to get some advice from anyone who knows these bikes. And I'm open to other suggestions to (budget is R15000 - R20000)

  16. I need some advice on options for a new road bike I would like to buy. I am more of a MTB'er and have been riding a hardtail which I have used in the road Argus as well. Since then I have upgraded to a dual sus and the gearing 2x10 drivetrain is not really suited for road. I train on the road often aswell and would like to enter more road events. I have been looking and found the Scott CR1 Comp very attractive. http://www.scott-spo...-comp-cd20-s52/ I've looked at the 2012 Cannondale CAAD 8 Tiagra coming in at the lower end of my budget, but I think carbon frame is probably more worth it and putting in the extra $$ will save me from wanting to upgrade again later. Other bike I looked at was the Giant TCR. I was hoping anyone could point out a few other options they think is worth while and how they stack up to the above bikes?
  17. I have a Scott Genius which was in dire need of a service on the rear shock (they have a really complicated pull shock). After not hearing back from the agents, I found Stoke Suspensions details here on the Hub. It was the first Genius shock Andrew had worked on, but he did an awesome job, had it back to me within a week and, after a great ride down Tokai this morning, I can report it's working perfectly. Cost was more than an 'ordinary' rear shock, but was less still than I was expecting. Can definitely recommend these guys... http://www.stokesuspension.com/
  18. Hi There, So I am pretty new to Mtbing, have been riding for about a yer now and see a lot of guys recommend upgrading the wheels on your bike as one of the best upgrades. I currently have a Scott Spark 950 with the standard alexrims xc 49 wheels on. I know most people say these are not very good rims, but they have served me well. What I would like to know is - what would the advantages be of changing to say Stans ZTR rims? I would go for the Arch as I weigh 95kgs. Is it all about weight/ strength? What would be the difference between the Stans 3.30 hubs and my standard deore hubs? Thank you
  19. Hi Hubbers I want to pose a question to those more informed than myself: I am curretly running an XT crank 3x9 on a Scott Genius 20, but the middle and inner chainrings are due for replacement soon, and I am toying with the idea of dropping the big ring for a bashring. My thoughts are as follows: I rarely use the big ring unless I am on hardpack gravel, and prefer to spend my time on more technical trails than long slogs for hours on end. And I keep buggering the (expensive) bigring on rocks etc. Now..... What sizes do i try? (I am eyeing Blackspire 24t and 38t with the bashring up front) Can I keep the long cage RD? Or does this change require other drivetrain components to be changed? (other than the chain and setting limits on the FD) Any input will help...thanx This is what i'm thinking of doing http://fcdn.mtbr.com/attachments/trek/607845d1302395190-post-your-fuel-ex-official-post-fuel-ex9-april-2011.jpg
  20. I have Giant Revel 4 with standard brakes. I have driven 2100km within 3 months and continued to use it when i want to go out about 40km a day. My friends have Scott bicycle with broader wheels which seems to go further and better feel. Should i upgrade yet or train with this bicycle longer ? Altogether had this bicycle for 5 months
  21. I'm thinking about upgrading my mtb.I've been looking at the Scott Scale 920 or 910. My current mtb (also Scott scale) has 26" wheels. I'm quite small (1.58m), might the 29" wheels be a problem for me? Pro's and cons of 29"wheels and any suggestions on what to buy?
  22. Just sold my 26 er( scott spark 50) So now want to replace with a similar spec 29er DS. What options do you recommend for around 20k? Im looking at spark 950
  23. I've just inherited a 2005 / 2006 Scott Scale 40 from a mate who has thrown his toys out of the cot with dirt riding. It needs a bit of work but nothing major so I thought I'd keep it for riding with the kids and a bit of thrashing about when not on my main bike. Only thing I might have to do is get a new fork but no sure what would be a good option. It's currently got the original manitou Black elite 80 on it and the lockout is shot. Most later scales ran 100mm or should I look around for some NOS 80mm older stock?
  24. Hello Everyone, Sorry that my first ever post here had to be this... My Scott Aspect 920 was taken from my garage in the early hours of the morning on the 7th of July. It has a black frame and while lettering and graphics. Still has the Schwalbe Rapid Rob tyres on it. Shimano gears and brakes and rock shox at the front. I put on Giant LED lamps at the front and rear. And it has a little underseat tool pouch. I will update with photos a little later. Cheers, Eugene
  25. Hello, my Spark Elite rear shock came lose as the bolt holding it has got a plastic bracket around, which broke - so now it rattles. Which LBS in CPT CBD would have access to Scott spares?
