I am looking at getting a decent hardtail and the 2011 models are all on good specials at the moment: the 2 bikes i have narrowed it down to are the Merida Matts 1000D 2011 and Specialized Rockhopper Pro. The Merida is R8 500 and the Specialized R9 000. They are very similarly spec'd except that the Specialized has 2bliss tyres. A few questions: firstly - what would you guys do in this situation? Secondly - the 2bliss tyres on the specialized - are these good to run tubeless as I dont think that they're UST? The specialized does cost more and does not have pedals on it so would have to add those too taking it to about R9500 which starts pushing me out of my price bracket i had banked on - is it worth the extra R500/R1000 for the Specialized? Any other suggestions of bikes to look at in the 8 grand bracket?

Upgrading to 29er.. Please offer some advice? Pro's & Con's? Giant XTC 29er 2012 or Merida 0 NINE Pro XT (Carbon) Both retail between R15k to R18k. Anybody know when will the Giant XTC 29er 2012 be available in RSA? Regards

I saw a dude who did not look like a mtn biker riding off Devils Peak today. Might have been a commuting student (I saw him as I was leaving UCT) but he had mud on his clothes, so he came of the mtn. No helmet or gloves though. Meridas all look the same to me, so not sure if it was an expensi one or not.

Hi, I'm looking at getting the 2012 Merida 903 as my first road bike (up until now I've exclusively mountain biked). I plan on using this bike for the Ironman 70.3 in East London in January. Any thoughts/comments/alternative suggestions would be much appreciated. Specs and pic below. Regards Wes

I spotted a 2011 Merida 96 Carbon 3000D in Rosslyn yesterday (Industrial area in North Western extreme of Pretoria). It was ridden by a guy with an eye cap in jeans and tekkies. He rapidly dashed off when he realized I am interested in his ride.

Looking to buy a decent bike for myself. Starting to get into mountain biking and till now have been using an old Giant Cadex, with a couple new parts. I've been offered a Merida, HFS Matts Pro (Prolite tubing 66?) disc setup with: -Manitou Skareb Super (SPV) fork -Tektro Auriga Pro hydraulic brakes -RaceFace Evolve crank -Shimano Deore XT shifters -Mavic X223 rims ... What are peoples opinions on this bike, setup etc.? What should I look at cost wise? Got his price but not sure what it's worth!

Not to get racial, but i checked a guy in the Edenvale area riding a Merida (Not quite sure the model) Black and lime green, discs, etc. The thing that caught my eye was he was in a blue overall and the bike had a pro nutro race number on the front, and he had a proper cycling bottle. I stopped him and kindly asked about it. He was shaking like a mad thing during questioning. He said his boss had given it to him. so i followed him to his "bosses" house. Upon arriving i just left because i though he may be legit. So then i felt bad for questioning the guy so i went back to offer him some cash to say sorry and make friends. When i got there the "boss" and his family were extremely low class with missing teeth etc, the house was in a shambles.. So, if your house looks like that, would you be handing out merida's to your garden boy?? Here's my verdict. -There are a whole bunch of low class people staying together. -The ''boss" would not hand out a Merida if he is evidently poor. -The "boss" certainly would not be doing any races, so why the pro nutro race number? -Due to the fact that cleat pedals were on the bike, the previous owner was not some low class. -The bike was stolen and no one who stays in that house actually cares because they would do the same. Now its the tricky part. About 20min later i saw the same guy walking. (did he ditch the bike because he knew people were suspicious???) If there is a lost Merida i will take action, if not, that bike will remain his and his story could be legit.

I have been looking for weeks at bikes and it has come down to the Merida One Twenty 500-D or the Scott spark 60 Advice from people with these bikes would be much appreciated or anyone who has something good to add. Im looking for something durable and that is value for money.

I have been considering upgrading my current Merida Matts TFS 100 V for a bike with a better fork and disc brakes (I am a weekend warrior weighing 115kg, 1.9m tall) My current bike is also an XL which I find too big for me and difficult to control. Would the LITE 1000-D be a good step up... I am considering purchasing a MTB and am having to make a decision between a new Fuji Tahoe 1.0 (hard tail) or 2nd hand 2010 Merida 96 HFS 100D (dual suspension). Please help...am now totally clueless!!!
