  3. I would just like to find out the general feeling of the racing tandems who is doing the Argus, I would like to split my question into 2 parts. 1.) We normally ride racing tandems with the Argus, seeded in # and did just over 3 hours with 3 minutes or so and under the top 20 tandems overall. Now we have been seeded in 1C but some of our tandem friends who is behind us with 4 minutes on the previous Argus and 10+ minutes on the 94.7 has been seeded in #, yes, some of them has been seeded in 1F, 1G etc as well but they only used our 94.7 seeding. Our seeding index is 15. Mark my words what is going to happen this year, the Elite tandems(the elite women and men who decided to ride tandem this year and yes, there are a lot of them who is SA, World champs, Elites etc this year as well as your Andrew Mcleans etc) will break at latest at Smithswinkel and will ride around 7-10 minutes out of the rest of the # tandems, 80% of the remainder of the "racing" tandems will remain together most of the race but according to the seeding the tandems in 1C-1F will have much more risk to crash and most certainly will and if we're lucky to survive, those tandems will have a better time than 50% of the # tandems. But the risk is not worth it to us. In an ideal world they should have Elite, (Old school)Racing and social tandems. Those tandem who then decide to fall back to single groups at their own perusal is then more than welcome to do so. How did they think this through? 2.) Argus tandem safety with single bikes. A tandem takes twice the distance to stop than a single bike(double the weight and more or less the same contact area to the tar as a single bike), the apex around corners especially down Chapman's peak is way different and it handles/maneuver much different as well. After Smiths winkel if a single bike would go down at 50,60,70kmh there is no way that a tandem will be able to stop in time, it also takes much more effort & time to swerve out. The captain will normally be okay after an accident on a tandem but I know of various stokers that must first fall on and over the front part of the tandem before even hitting the ground, here I'm talking about coma's, a lot of broken bones, serious hospital situations. I've seen it before and if the good tandems start with single bikes there is a very real & serious danger to it. Hence the reason so many tandem entries becoming available now. Will the organizers first have to see tandem riders to get hurt before changing it back to the racing tandem and social tandem groups which worked well in the past for so many years? It's just crazy and clearly the organizers have never ridden a tandem before.
  4. Good Monday morning to all the Hubbers! So there's this race out Middleburg's side called the Tour De Farm, awesome name! Who will be doing it? Who has done it? Worth the trouble? Race is the weekend before the 947 CC. I think it might actually be the weekend of the 947 MTB CC.

PENNYPINCHERS SILVERSTAR MTB CHALLENGE – RIDER BRIEF http://i3.cmail1.com/ei/j/32/35B/982/csimport/2015Silverstarlogo.113542.jpg Finally, the big day isn’t far away! Thanks for entering Saturday’s 8th edition of the Pennypinchers Silverstar Mountain Bike Challenge. We look forward to hosting you and trust you’ll enjoy your day out on some wonderful riding terrain. Starting times for the batches are as follows: 08h00: 40km batch A 08h05: 40km batch B 08h10: 40km batch C 08h20: 20km batch A 08h25: 20km batch B All riders have to report to the registration venues to collect number boards, batch stickers and race packs. Every rider will receive a temporary Spectrum Sport timing board which they have to affix to their handlebars with cable straps. These boards have to be handed in at the finish line once you’ve completed your ride. RIDERS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RIDE WITH THEIR PERMANENT SAS BOARDS. Registration venues: Thursday 3 September 2015: Cycle Lab Superstore, Fourways (10h00 – 16h00) Friday 4 September 2015: The Bicycle Company Muldersdrift (10h00 – 16h00) Riders who cannot get to these venues will be helped on the morning from 07h00 at the main entrance to the Casino, but will not receive race packs and will not be able to collect any race merchandise. There will be event T-shirts on sale at registration (limited sizes) - please enquire from our crew. Our route crew under the guidance of experienced route builder Darren Herbst have been working hard on the route and we will do our utmost to help everyone have a pleasant day out on the bike. With more than 1000 riders entered, it’s inevitable that the route will be congested in certain areas where the 20km and 40km events are on the same stretches. The Hillsnacks climb does, however, provide ample distance to stretch bunches out and the route keeps climbing for a further 2km after riders exit off the R28. The split point is at the 13km mark where the 40km ride turns back onto the mountain for a sublime loop on the Ridge while the 20km riders turn down towards the finish line. The split point is clearly marked in the lead-up as well as at the split, so make sure you look out for it. The two distances join each other again shortly before the final descent. The final descent down the old ox wagon trail is technical, but we’ve done a lot of work on it to try and make it ride-able. 20km and 40km riders will be on this section together and we request that 20km riders, who can’t ride the descent, walk to the far left hand side off the track to allow the quick 40km riders free passage to the finish line. There will be marshals on this section pushing slow traffic left - please adhere to their instructions. Click here to view the 20km route map and profile. Click here to view the 40km route map and profile The race starts inside Silverstar Casino’s new top parking lot above the complex (not the bottom parking area next to the boom gates as was the case in previous years) and goes out onto the R28 tarred main road climb before turning left into the bush on the Krugersdorp Ridge. Metro police will provide an escort and pointsmen on this section and we request riders to be cautious until we leave the main road (big thanks to Chief Sup Bryan Murray and his officers!). There are two water points on the route, which are stocked with PowerAde and Coke as well as tasty titbits, including koeksisters and crunchy cookies. We ask riders to be courteous at all times and stick to the left of the track whenever possible to allow faster riders to pass. NO SHOUTING AT SLOWER RIDERS WILL BE TOLLERATED AND THE ORGANISERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY ANY RIDER DUE TO MISCONDUCT IN THIS REGARD. The boom gates at Silverstar Casino will be open from 6:30 on Saturday. Prize giving is in the Piazza in front of the big screen at 11:00. Festivities are hosted by the “Voice of Cycling” in South Africa, Johnny Koen. The prize giving function will be broadcast on the big screen, creating a nice atmosphere at the venue. The finish line is inside the Super Dome at Silverstar For directions to the venue go to www.silverstarcasino.co.za A big thank you to our sponsors and partners: Pennypinchers Silverstar Casino Mogale City Metro Police Action Ford High 5 Ftech Rudy Project For further information email eventsupport@asgworld.co.za or phone 076 621 1807 .............................................................................................................................................................. http://i4.cmail1.com/ei/j/32/35B/982/csimport/BESTEMEDRACES2015editable_Page_1.055748.jpg FOR ENTRIES AND INFO ON THE BESTMED SATELLITE CLASSIC, CLICK HERE. RIDER COMMUNIQUE http://i2.cmail2.com/ei/j/CE/661/B34/csimport/2015Silverstarlogo.113542.jpg Our route crew have just finished their mammoth task on the final descent for Saturday's event and the result is sublime. Riders who are familiar with the Krugersdorp Ridge will remember the cutting from some previous editions which brings the event back to Silverstar at the end of both distances, but they won't recognise it with various bridges having now been built and lots of landfill work having been done to make it rideable all the way to the bottom. Quick riders in the 40km event are advised that they will encounter slow traffic on this section and they need to be cautious on their way down. RACING SNAKES NEED TO BE VERY VOCAL ON THE DESCENT TO ALERT SLOWER RIDERS OF THEIR PASSING. We will have marshals that will try and keep slow traffic left for the faster guys to pass, but there are no guarantees, SO PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS. Unfortunately the dynamics on the route don't allow free passage for the 40km racing snakes on this section - the only way was to allow the 40km riders to start 2 hours before the 20km, but this isn't possible due to start and finish logistics. We've traditionally had the quicker 40km guys link up with the 20km route in the final few kilometers of the event so this year won't be any different - all riders are just requested to be courteous. The Bicycle Company in Muldersdrift has let us know that they are going to have some great specials on High 5 supplements at number collection on Friday, so look out for these specials if you are collecting in Muldersdrift on Friday. Starting times for the batches are as follows: 08h00: 40km batch A 08h05: 40km batch B 08h10: 40km batch C 08h20: 20km batch A 08h25: 20km batch B All riders have to report to the registration venues to collect number boards, batch stickers and race packs. 10. 2015 Cannondale F-Si Carbon Race Hardtail Unveiled, Integrates Everything posted by Tyler Benedict - May 30, 2014 - 12pm EDT http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/2015-Cannondale-F-Si-carbon-hardtail-race-mountain-bike2-600x400.jpg When the Flash 29 debuted a couple years ago, it brought Cannondale’s System Integration (Si) to the frame with things like their OPI stem/steerer with Lefty fork and tuned SAVE seatstays. The all-new F-Si takes everything a step further by shifting the drivetrain off center, building a new Lefty, a new crank spider and adding a new SAVE seatpost to amplify the comfort of the micro suspension built into the frame. The result, they say, is the fastest race bike because, rather than just thinking about the frame itself, it’s designed as a complete bike in mind. That’s also how Cannondale builds some of the lightest bikes out there, by creating some of their own components (Hollowgram cranks, Lefties, etc.) to ensure things work together smoothly and quickly. So, what’s new? http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/2015-Cannondale-F-Si-carbon-hardtail-race-mountain-bike5-600x352.jpg Starting with the whole frame, the geometry’s been changed to create a bike that’s simultaneously fast, stable and nimble. To get the “fast”, they shortened chainstays to a minuscule 429mm (16.88″), shorter by 15mm than before. To get the “stable and nimble”, they matched a slack 69.5º head angle with a 55mm offset Lefty fork. The head angle keeps things stable at speed while the short offset keeps handling snappy in the tight stuff. These numbers work because a bigger offset decreases the fork’s trail, putting the tire/ground contact patch more in line with the steerer’s center line (click here for diagrams and better descriptions). The prior Lefty 29er was 45mm offset, and typical 29er forks are around 47mm. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/2015-Cannondale-F-Si-carbon-hardtail-race-mountain-bike4-600x236.jpg To get chainstays that short without compromising 2x compatibility and mud clearance, they had to shift the rear hub and drivetrain to the right by 6mm. That let them keep tire clearance on the inside of the chainstays and front derailleur clearance on the outside. If you notice, the front derailleur cage extends behind the front of the rear tire, so by keeping spaced off to the side, it let them bring the rear wheel up closer. This keeps rider weight over the rear tire for solid traction while climbing and super stiff power transfer. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/cannondale-hollowgram-ai-sisl-crankset-2015.jpg The new spider moves the chainrings out 6mm without affecting the spindle length or Q-factor. Out back, they had to move the hub 6mm right, also, which typically would shift the tire off the bike’s center line. To remedy this, Cannondale has the wheels built with zero dish, which brings the rim into center line without needing any proprietary parts. In the event you wanted to use your existing wheels, you’d probably need to have them redished or possibly rebuilt, but you could keep your existing hubs and rims. All of this comes together in a complete bike package that they say is stiffer and lighter than bikes using a rear thru axle. Yep, that’s right, they’re sticking with quick release rear ends. It’s a race bike after all, so weight and quick wheel changes were of equal importance to stiffness and efficiency. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/2015-Cannondale-F-Si-carbon-hardtail-race-mountain-bike3-600x404.jpg The rest of the frame keeps their SAVE micro suspension seatstays and BallisTec carbon construction where it counts. Keeping with the race theme, they kept all cable routing external. This saves weight compared to an internal routing and makes team mechanics’ lives much easier. There is, however, internal wiring ports for electronic shifting systems. Frame weight is claimed at 1,022 with all hardware (seat clamp, FD mount and cable guides). This is an externally validated, third party measurement. That said, they say they’ve weighed several models in house that have come in at 960g. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/2015-Cannondale-F-Si-carbon-SAVE-seatpost.jpg Complementing the frame is an all-new SAVE seatpost. This version drops 47g while boosting compliance by 20%. The flex is also more linear, which they say helps keep it bending under lighter loads. In other words, it’s more sensitive and should be more comfortable. http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/2015-Cannondale-F-Si-carbon-LEFTY-29er-fork-600x433.jpg For the Lefty’s, offset isn’t the only change. The uppers are 2mm larger, yielding a 44mm diameter top structure to make it stiffer. Inside, there’s an all new damper, similar to the SuperMax on the Jekyll. They say it needed an update to handle the more aggressive nature of World Cup XC courses. So, now it’s more supple and there’s more air volume. More clamp widths are offered now (not just one), which means they fit each size frame specifically. For smaller bikes, that helps keep the front end low, and it all looks much better.
