  1. Hi Hubbers I recently had my wheels trued by my LBS and was pretty dismayed as I subsequently needed to do the job myself as they weren't trued properly at all, a waste of my time and money. Generally I do things myself because then I have the peace of mind that the job has been done properly. However, I am not a professional mechanic and would like my set of downhill wheels tensioned optimally as I can feel some spokes are not at the ideal tension. My wheels are in great condition but I am considering running V-brakes so they need to be true. With this in mind, I ask for your advice as to where in Cape Town I should go, I would appreciate any feedback. At this stage I am considering Andrew at Stoke Suspension Works or Kevin at BMC, however I would like to hear your opinions on the matter. Any feedback will be appreciated, I am situated in Claremont, Cape Town, and am looking for a mechanic in the vicinity. I also have a feeling Bike Mob may be a safe bet, but I've never dealt with them. Thank you in advance
  2. Hi there Recently moved house from Southern Suburbs Cape Town to Noordhoek. I am keen to join up with some like minded people for road cycling / training rides on weekends. Due to kid commitments probably mostly Sunday early morning rides on the road (but may be some Saturdays). Would also be keen for some MTBing from time to time. Are there any groups in Noordhoek / Fish Hoek / South Peninsula or even Tokai that someone could recommend and provide content details? Key is I am after a group that starts out this side... I train to keep fit, but often also enter road races and triathlons (so also interested if there are any triathlon run and swim groups starting from the South Peninsula on weekends). NOt a beginner but need to build up fitness a little as have been off cycling for a few months with house move / work etc. Thanks very much all Deon
  3. Started a little club on Strava for everyone cycling or running past Cape Town's traffic. Feel free to join. https://www.strava.com/clubs/191708
  4. Are there any casual group training rides that start in Cape Town CBD during the week? Not really looking to join a club but would like to ride with like minded cyclists in and around Cape Town.
  5. Kicking off 2017, the Trail Daze crew re-visited Cape Town to bring you the second of this two-part (part one) mother-city mountain biking showcase. We were joined by local pinner, industry influencer and all-round nice guy, Mark Hopkins. Click here to view the article
  6. So, City of Cape Town wants to be recognized as a cycling super city in the ilk of Euro style commuting etc. http://traveller24.news24.com/Explore/SAHolidayGuide/cape-town-aims-to-become-bicycling-super-city-20170118 My 2 cents contribution is that in order for this to become a reality, stricter law enforcement on the existing cycle routes need to be enforced. By example, Paarden Island - Town via N1 underpass. Too much poo happening there. Now Durbanville has become a bike-jack hotspot. The CoCT has the right idea, but it seems their focus is a bit off. discuss...
  7. As part one of a two part series, we head to the ever friendly (and often relentlessly windy) Cape Town to take a closer look at mountain biking in and around the mother city. Click here to view the article
  8. You are invited to join the second Devil's Peak Ma55ive social ride with the Devil's Peak Ma55ive and thereafter a braai at Ian's house at 9 Forest Hills. We'll meet there at 6pm and go for an hour ride on Table Mountain and then have a quick braai and leave around 9pm. Bring own drinks and something to braai, some wood and cutlery. Looking forward to see you. Remember to invite a friend and also add them to this group! RSVP here https://www.facebook.com/groups/551147405094537/
  9. Hi guys. I will be visiting SA and Cape Town for the first and would like to join someone or a group for a some rides. I am not familiar with the routes and road conditions. Also riding on the left side of the road will be a new experience! Please let me know if there are any planned rides for the first week of Sept. that I may join. Thanks! Mike
  10. Dear Bikehubbers, This is a very last-minute announcement to all cyclists (especially commuters) in the Fish Hoek area and surrounds. You are invited to a focus group to be held at Fish Hoek Library on Tuesday 23 August from 6-7.30pm (refreshments will be served, a modest stipend is payable). This focus group forms part of the Fish Hoek phase of my masters dissertation on how cyclists interact with the built environment (i.e., both buildings and roads) in this part of Cape Town. The other phases will take place in Ocean View and Masiphumelele. This is a great opportunity to meet in a small group (7 persons, maximum) with other cyclists, and talk about cycling experiences, both good and bad, around a large 2x1m map, where we will mark the places in the Far South that matter to you. The aim of the research is to produce a set of recommendations to be taken into account in future infrastructure planning in Cape Town. It is hoped that, by incorporating the views of the cycling community in a structured way that 'speaks an engineering language', it will be possible to improve the practical utility of new cycling interventions in our city. Our first session, held this week, was very successful, and I am reaching out to the BikeHub community based on a recommendation from a participant. For any enquiries or more information, please contact me as indicated on the invitation or see details online at the link in the attachment. Best regards to all - Brett A5 Invitation Fish Hoek.pdf
  11. Heard on the radio this morning and on twitter that a motorcyclist was knocked down at Twelve Apostles on the coast road. Strength to the lost ones family and friends.
  12. Hi Everyone I am a new cyclist to Cape Town and the Southern Suburbs. I moved down here from JHB and am wanting to pick up some riding/racing again. I have had a bit of a lay off from riding, last event was the 2015 Double Century which I completed on a tandem in one of the tandem teams. I would like to find out if there is anyone looking for a riding buddy? Please contact me if you have any options to offer.
  13. Hi there, I have a mountain bike that i use for training. However, I have recently entered a triathlon with a 90km cycle so I am looking for a Road/TT bike that I could hire for the event as well as use regularly (once a week) to get used to it? I've seen there are a few places in CT that offer for R300 a day but then I still need to get it to Stellenbosch so by the time I do the Triathlon I might as well have bought myself a new bike (the race is in September). Does anyone know a cheap place in Stellenbosch to rent a road bike, or is anyone themselves willing to lend/rent me their bike for two hours on a weekend to get some time in the saddle? Feel free to comment/PM Thanks! ps. I am quite tall (193cm) so a large or XL bike preferably
  14. Hi guys, Any group rides in City Bowl area that I can join? I recently moved to CT and reside in Oranjezicht. I hate cycling alone (from a social and safety aspect). Seeing that Winter is fast approaching is, some weekend rides would also be great. Thank you Regards Jo
  15. Looking for morning or evening group rides in the week around the City Bow, Sea Point, Green Pointl or Observatory area. Medium pace. Maybe 1 to 1.5 hours - before or after work.
  16. Is there a list of trail-builders in Cape Town? If not who are the trail builders in Cape Town?
  17. Hi, I am visiting Cape Town for the next few months from the other hemisphere and I am looking for riding partners and suggestion for where to rent a quality mountain bike long term. I have not yet secured a bike, so I know nothing yet of local trails. I am mostly interested in MTB, but will ride road too. As for my level, I used to race cross country (amateur sport class many years ago) so I can handle myself on a bike, but have been off for a year with injuries and preparations for this trip (with an extra 8-10Kg as well). I am happy to suffer (or go slow...??) in exchange for knowledgable partners who can show me around. I am not working, so I am flexible during weekdays...I can ride morning or evening, but most weekends will be spent exploring SA with my family.
  18. Hi All I am training for the Cycle Tour, I ride every weekend from 5 am till 9 am. If any of you is interested in joining me for some training feel free to message me. This weekend I will cycle from Sea Point to Noordhoek and back.
  19. Just received this from my local NHW (Rosebank): Bicycle hijacking at blockhouse (Thanks to the NRA and RCID for this.) There was a bicycle hijacking yesterday morning (Sunday) when a cyclist was approaching the blockhouse at the base of plum pudding by two coloured males. He was hit in the face with a branch and then held up with a knife while the second perpetrator was standing and pointing a firearm at him. They stole his Giant XTC 29er as well as his Samsung S6. The perpetrators also assaulted the cyclist before fleeing the scene. Please beware that all cyclists need to take heed of the possible dangers and try to avoid riding solo when off-road on the mountain.

  21. Dear fellow cyclists, Please be warned: I was attacked by two pedestrians on Monday 14 September, and robbed of all my belongings, except my bicycles and clothes. I just came from Paardeneiland and went uphill towards Woodstock Myciti station on the much loved and quiet cycle lane. Two pedestrians were walking behind each other on the cycle path towards me. As I past the first, he said something to the second. This one lashed out and hooked my right arm, causing my handle bar to twist and me to fall hard instantly. I tried to get up, but they ran to me and threatened me with some sort of plastic or iron rod. They tried to get my backpack off, but as I was wearing a helmet, this was not easy. They yanked and pulled hard, until my helmet came off. They ran off with bag and wallet into the field between Myciti route and N1. Please share this story with more cyclists riding alone, as this clearly is not safe any longer. I will now look for a group to commute with, as I know there are a few that do this for their safety. Let me know if you need more information. Ard.
  22. In this photo there are two illegal activities happening. 1. Riding on this out-of-bounds yet frequently ridden greenbelt in Constantia, Cape Town. 2. Fouling of the green belt as a wall is built. The question is how long will it take for a mountain bike tyre imprint to disappear as opposed to cement that will be present for years? The problem is far more people using the greenbelts will moan and complain at the sight of a cyclist, while not "bat an eyelid" at a builders working very untidily and in turn polluting our cities open green spaces...
  23. Good day. I am trying to gauge the feasibility of building a Bike trailer for a couple of bikes to transport to events such as Triathlons, Ironman, Double Century, etc. 1) The question I have is what means of transporting of your bike is preferable? 2) What reason will make decide to rather send a Bike with someone else rather than hauling it yourself? 3) What type of service would you like from a transport company? Obviously Insurance will be on bikes when it gets transported... Needless info and reason for my question... Both my wife and I do Triathlons, as such we always have a heap of gear, thus the real issue is whether it is better to build a big enough trailer for several bikes or just for two bikes? Regards, Andre du Plessis
  24. I know this is a massive long shot but I lost my new Oakley Radarlock XL's with photochromic lenses on Suikerbossie on Saturday 11 July. I was wondering if anyone might have picked them up. Please call me on 0829057244 if you have them, I'm willing to pay a reward. Thanks, Stef
  25. Calling cpt locals tip needed - in town for a week with no bike. Want to try a great mtb trail or 2 around cpt. Do any trail heads or shops rent decent bikes? Few hours or a few days. Ideally something like my beloved camber?
